  1. Some level of buy-in to a particular purchase might be necessary, particularly if we get into situations where 10-15 coin releases start going at a time. I try to get at least 5 of any release I can find, partly for trading and partly because I think it's cool to have a somewhat redundant collection (for future hides, dispersal to my children, etc.). Actually, the most convenient thing would be a central place for collectors to alert each other of pending activity on new issuances. I don't know if a forum would be the best method, or some centralized web page. I like what FISUR has done Geocoin Designs), but it's usually after orders are closed. BTW -- see UTAG yet? UTAG coins
  2. I think I threw this thought into the Geocaching Topics forum awhile back, for something that GC.com could do to encourage premium memberships, but I'll throw out here as well --- Is there any interest in an "Official" FTF prize that cache-hiders can purchase and place in their new caches? Obviously, something of uniform collectible value would be of most widespread interest. If it could somehow be easily labeled with the Cache Name and maybe other information (hider, coordinates, state, date, etc.), it would also be cooler. Depending on labeling requirements, cost, material, and size factors, it could conceivably be anything from a coin/medallion to something similar to a "deal cube" or other corporate award. Obviously, wide range of possiblities. Myself, I'd be willing to buy a $5 collectible for caches I hide, if it had a wide-spread appeal. Supporting topic thoughts -- what have been your favorite FTF prizes?
  3. Doggies -- the smaller the better. Dragging an offspring along is even better. In emergencies, coffee cups also help. Talking into the GPSr is sometimes helpful, but needs to be carried off well, or you just look like a bigger nutcase. The worst is stumbling out of brush after rehiding a cache, and then being surprised by (and surprising) a lone walking/jogging woman. I did that with a Bellevue cache once, tried to explain myself, then made the mistake of offering to show her the hide (yeah, right - just look into the bushes here and...). She said "that's alright" and walked away real fast. I walked the other way and hoped I could make it to the car before she could dial her cellphone. God I hate it when that happens. At least I haven't had screams or mace yet. Best advice is to just pass, if you think you'll make someone else uncomfortable or risk being suspected of creepy behavior. That's one reason why my total is still so low (besides work and family - )
  4. I'm yearning to go - not sure I have the goodwill to sway the family ties right now. Either way, is there a pool for the time of the first law enforcement encounter? Not saying anything about Wenatchee, but quickly moving bands of strangers are bound to be the Neighborhood Watch event of the month! If I don't make it this time, I'll look for the next chance to meet some of you. Good hunting!
  5. Any chance this is still open? I'm interested in getting a Texas coin or two, and can spare a Michigan and/or Washington
  6. Interested in 5 here as well.
  7. Very cool -- I've always enjoyed the historical caches the most. Nice to see history-nuts appreciating the effect of bringing new people to their treasures.
  8. Would love 5. I'm an Illinois transplant to Seattle, so it would be nice to get something from a little closer to "home." Too bad I moved before caching came along, because I can think of a lot of nice places out there for hides. thanks
  9. Top of the line, guys. Thank you very much for making them open to the community and arranging such nice personalization options. New bar has been set.
  10. Yeah, I suppose even New Jersey
  11. I originally gave an ambiguous 5 to 10 answer. Can I now reserve 10 plus a silver? Thanks much!
  12. Not saying anything today - cursed myself yesterday
  13. Sorry, GEMs, I'm still overbooked on the 16th and won't make it. W.
  14. Somehow, Nurse Dave and Pepper are always the ones jilted by the mailmen. I hope to have better luck when I get home. I'm sure I'll drive at my usual almost legal speed, for anyone along my route in Bellevue.
  15. Here's the offender: With wiser, older sister Paloma: Besides giving great "air cover", they are the only family members who actually relish getting out (you should have seen them doing EGH's Night Hike in the sleet and freezing rain)/ If we could just teach them how to actually sniff out caches. I'm a little leary of the End of Trail placement, but will look for a safe (i.e., non-suspicious) time to take the dogs out and search for the north entry. I had assumed the entry was from the south, but there has been some pipeline work on 24th, and they now have a light fence across the hill north of 24th. Maybe next weekend. Thanks for empathetic thoughts.
  16. Congrats Moun10bike, Pepper and Puppers. You continue to inspire (and outperform) us all.
  17. Whew --- someone found him and responded to our signs this morning. Too late to join you on the cache, but so much happier now than before. Good luck on the hunt.
  18. Close to my neighborhood, so would love to join if I can. Unfortunately, one of our caching dogs (Cujo - 12 pound white Maltese Poodle) ran away today. So, we'll be searching for something more important to us than a new cache - for as long as it takes. (Obviously, if anyone sees him, we will be eternally grateful)
  19. I'd be interested in 5 to 10 (I love collecting). Alaska has so many possibilities for themes.
  20. I'd be interested in 10. Thanks.
  21. Looks like I'm now pinched out on the 16th -- damned VP briefing is overriding my day off. I'll let you know if things free up again, but didn't want to leave you surprised on the first day. Sorry (partially for myself -- I'll be missing a lot of fun).
  22. I assume the "We are Sold Out" message on the website supersedes the "ordering 200 more" language. If you are taking more orders for a potential reprinting, please let us all know (and put me down for 10)
  23. I hate to say it, but it looks like it's almost the last chance to collect. Over the last month, there's been a serious decline in the number of Jeep drops in the Seattle area. Yeah, we still have some legacy postings, where the car was lifted without being logged. Still, we used to have 4-5 new Jeep caches a week (unscientific numbers, of course). Last few weeks, I think I saw 2 total. I get the sense that people now are afraid to drop any in their hands, for fear of never getting another one as their final momento. Sad, but a predictable human behavior.
  24. I had indicated desire for 5 originally, but sent check for 7. If you don't have spare inventory, please have a beer on me with the difference. Thanks
