Anyone been watching Railway Walks on BBC4?
Moonraker Team replied to GAZ's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I certainly followed the routes on MM, does anybody know who actually owns the ground that these tracks cross, in the old days course it was the railways but when they closed all the lines did they sell the land or does it just sit there, just curious really, anybody know?? -

Grievance About Hints
Moonraker Team replied to Dread_Pirate_Bruce's topic in General geocaching topics
Treat as you would like to be treated! I try to find a cache without the hint at first, using previous finds experience, if I have to resort to the clue its because I have to, so I would like to find the cache. Its frustrating to have to walk away especially if you are only in the area for the day. Remember that a cache find is only easy if you find it quickly, if for whatever reason you can't locate it then either having an unhelpful clue or no clue at all doesn't help its just plain annoying. We all just want to have fun is that so bad? Better that cachers walk away feeling good rather than bad tempered and frustrated (there's enough of that in life generally) Happy Caching !!!!! -
Just to let everybody know I have now got this to work, maybe I had something in my computer or I was doing something wrong but I tried it again yesterday and it works fine. Now I can continue to plan my Geocaching whilst travelling around Scotland later in the year. Thanks to everyone for their help and greetings from the UK Cheers

I can do simple Pocket Queries no problem BUT caches along a route are a problem, if I want to run a query on the route that Google Earth chooses no problem but I can't change the route. I can create a Google Map route but how do I save it so that I can upload to run a Pocket Query along a route. Did I miss a set of instructions somewhere? I have tried posting this on the BIG forum without success, can we Brits do better? The following was suggested but I can't get it to work, all it saves is a small link which doesn't work with PQ The interesting part is that Google MAPS (not Google Earth) will let you modify the route interactively. If you generate directions in maps.google.com , you can then left-click anywhere on the route and drag that point somewhere else to modify the route. For example, just drag your Torreya route off of I-10 and onto Blountstown highway! The clumsy part is exporting the modified route as a KML file from Google MAPS. If you look at the top right of the map, you'll see a link called [Link to this Page]. The trick is Left-click on [Link to this Page] copy the text with the URL in the first field (called "Paste link in email or IM) with "Cntl-C" paste that text somewhere (probably in a new browser window) add the following to the end of the text: &output=kml open a link to that new URL (with the &output=kml at the end of the address) and you should get options about either opening it with Google Earth, or saving it on your computer. From there, proceed to use the KML file of the modified route in the usual way to make a "Caches on a Route" query. Here's an example of a modified URL ending in &output=kml See what it does in your browser. The last bulleted step will be a little different on every computer, depending on the browser, the way you handle KML files, etc. But the point is that you can (1) modify the route in Google Maps and then (2) use the &output=kml trick to export the modified directions.

Thanks, I have tried this however all that gets saved is a small link file, I did try your hyperlink but again nothing shows, the only way I can do this at present is to do it in short stages where the start and end points go the route I want, hardly worth the effort really, but thanks anyway

Ian, Just a note to say thanks for your efforts with this, I see you say on the site that some things are still a bit iffy but I'm sure you must realise how pleased we all are to have it back at all so WELL DONE and THANKS

How tricky is too tricky?
Moonraker Team replied to ClareLouise's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
I like the Harrogate Hunters idea for an accurate location, if then that doesn't work then the clue(s) need to give a reasonable chance of sucess. I do quite alot of 'camp & cache' trips and I do get very frustrated sometimes when only in the area for the day and a DNF results because of lack of clues. Let it run for a while and moniter the results. And even though I don't know where it is TFTC -
