  1. From what I've read, Bing Maps are even more expensive than Google Maps. Oh, thats too bad. I really miss the satellite images. Wonder if there is another free service coming up. Then where is the membership fees going to. They should then cut out the free memberships and make a trial fee for half price with limited features and regular price for premium members like us. That should recoup some of the costs
  2. Reading these posts have me greatly discouraged in regards to my favourite map view being the satellite view. I was hoping this would have been fixed. If Google is charging so much, can you not use Bing maps? I use the satellite view to prevent myself from taking bad short cuts. I do however, love the create Pocket query from the current view, that is awesome.
  3. I like any cache that some thought was put into it. Had one that was a log cut in two and the cache was in the center, and was fun when we found it. Had another that was a big old bolt on a old Bridge. Had some that took me to hidden gems in my own town, that I had to just sit and take in.
  4. Once and a while the local thrift store has a clear out on jewelry, and will make a whole bag for a couple bucks. Last time I bought 3 bags for 10 dollars and there was almost a hundred assorted necklaces, ear rings, braclets, pins etc. All fairly nice.
  5. Post the link, i do not seed any geocache application on Faceboook
  6. I've not done this yet. I did not know if it was expected or the exception. If its frowned apon then I would just not do it and continue to actually drop them in.
  7. Hello, I've noticed other members will "dip" a travel bug or coin. How is this done? Thanks
  8. Hello, I use a Garmin Venture HC and also GSAK. Is there a way to upload and store more than 500 waypoints?
  9. I use both iPhone and Garmin Ventura HC. I preload a ton into the GPS and use the iPhone to see what is in the area and use the maps and satalite to drive to a good starting point, then I take out the GPS and continue. I leave the iphone plugged in most of the time so battery is not an issue. Sometimes i may not have the GPS with me and I may use the iPhone. I know it is not as accurate but it gets you close enough that your geosense will pick out the hiding spot.
  10. I see in some multi's that you are to take a bearing of x amount of mils. Like this below example Checkpoint 1: N43° 10.455 W079° 14.511 From the pole, take a bearing of 4000 mils and record the full house number (CP01) What is a bearing of 4000 mils? Thanks
  11. I tried to do a search but the forum kept giving me errors. Here goes. I just downloaded and registered the GSAK program. I use the Garmin Etrex Ventura HC gps unit. I made a pocket query and loaded it into GSAK. I have previous outdated geochache points on my Garmin. How do you overwrite the ones on the GPS. When I went to upload to the gps it just added it too it. What happens is that I loaded a bunch of points and in the mean time I used my iPhone to find a few because I did not have the gps with me, So i just re ran the pocket query for all unfound caches and figured I could just overwite the ones on the GPS I looked on the GSAK web site and did not see this. Also who ever uses GSAK, what tips coudl you throw my way. Thanks
  12. Okay, thanks for the heads up. Thanks also for the links, I may go for that Legend h then
  13. I was looking to get a GPS mid price range as those 300 dollar plus units are beyound reach. I noticed at the store today 2 units that are on sale a Garmin Etrex Summit ( reg 269.00 on sale for 155.00 cdn) and a Magellan Explorist 500 ( reg 289.00 on sale 188.00 cdn) These both sound like an awesome deal. I will be also getting an Iphone through my company later in November when they are available at Bell so the paperless caching I will do through that. Oh, and I am from Ontario Canada, if that makes any difference for the GPSr units. Thanks in advance
  14. Check out the (deleted by moderator, unauthorized site scraping software) I use this on HTC touch dual..102 finds and Bang on every time
  15. Yihaaw !! Sweet solution. I just installed gmail on my phone, never seen this before. Only one thing though, how does this let you know when a new cache is published ? Doing it my way, with sms, you get the notification instantly with a buzzing phone in your pocket. I now have both, i just set up another notification with the same values and posted that one to my gmailaccount. This way i get alarmed instantly and thX to you I also have the link to insanely fast take me to the new cachelisting with links and coordinates and all. Can we then agree that this have to be superhardcore ?!?!? I have my phone set to check gmails every 5 minutes so I get notified right away. Unfortunately I can not take off all the time. Plus it does not cost any extra if you have a data plan already. Then if you have a windows mobile phone you can install http://www.nicque.com/PQz/GCz.htm and go right out a retrieve.
  16. If you want cheep micro contianers, Costco photo lab gives them out for free. Anyway, congradulations. I am almost to 200 after 7 months, looks like you are at about two months. Very fast in my opinion. Well now that all the close ones are found, it will slow down as I will need to drive further away to get them. However, as far as numbers go, I am at the point where I enjoy finding them and am not rushing through in order to get more numbers. Also, these last 3 I had some young kids along and I handed over the phone for them to use. My wife was surprised, LOL, that I gave it up, but to see their expressions of excitement while they followed the arrows, that's what its all about.
  17. Congratulations! And one of the "family affair" caches for no. 100, an excellent choice. I'll withhold comment on the recent "just for a smiley" craze in your area though. The family affair cache worked out nice as I was with 2 other families and some of their kids and they asked if there were any caches nearby and I looked it up and noticed that three were in the area. We then proceeded to do all three family affair caches These are so much better than the quick smiley ones. However the quick smiley ones are nice to snag while going to meetings or driving by. Is this then a craze for our area? I just assumed it was normal.
  18. I am still new to Geocaching and never thought I would reach 100 so soon. Looking forward to finding many more in the next few years.
  19. Bottom line is the stigma associated with a DNF. People do not want to post in their opinion a failure. Whereas actually the DNF posting is not that. A DNF should be viewed as a help to those coming, a note for the cache owner that maybe its gone, or a feather in the cache owners cap as they successfully hidden this particular cache. It is helpfull seeing DNF posted before going to a cach, as that helps me get a understanding that this may be a harder cache to find and then I decide whether to pursue or not. I always place a DNF and then put a watch on the cache, to see if any after me find it, if they do then I return
  20. Hello everyone, I may be getting a Palm Pre as a replacement Phone and was wondering a couple items. 1, how is the GPS on the Palm compared to the HTC Dual touch. 2) What Geo Caching software is out there for the Pre? Thanks
  21. For me it depends on how long it took to get to the location. If I had to hike for 20 minutes I would defiantly spend more time looking, If it was a quick urban stop, I may give 5 to 10 minutes then mark DNF and put on watch list, knowing that after someone records a find I can return quickly. The reason is that since it is an Urban Cache, the odds may be greater that it is missing.
  22. The program I use on my phone has a back trail that you can see where GZ is in comparison to your going back and forth and that gives you a idea of where to go. Under trees and large buildings the GPS can "stick"
  23. Well, I am still relativly new, however I was out looking for a quick cache with my daughter around dusk and we were climbing up a step incline and lo and behold there was a ragged skunk looking at me at eye level. I am not afraid of animals, however I really did not want to get sprayed. We back pedaled and then yelled to scare it away. I continued on to the cache while my daughter was constantly looking for the skunk to return. Another occasion I was checking for a cache in between some big rocks and was ready to reach in when I noticed two eyes staring back at me. It startled me, and I decided to check some other holes instead. Don't know what it was.
