  1. I purchased a refurbished Garmin 60CS off eBay in July, it arrived DOA. The seller instructed me to contact Garmin, which I did, the directed me to Raytech.ca. They replied to my email inquiries very promptly. I sent the dead unit to them and they shipped me a brand new one within 2 weeks. Simply amazing customer service. I would suggest contacting them through their website, tell them your problem and ask what they suggest...or call Garmin tech support first and see what they say.. Good luck
  2. I just have to let y'all know that I really appreciate all the advice that people have posted regarding Garmin. I am SO glad I bought a Garmin GPS. Even though I bought it off eBay, and received it DOA, they replaced it, in under 2 weeks. WOW, I didn't think Customer Service like that existed anymore. My faith has been restored. For the story...see hereGarmin Topic Thanks again everyone who had very helpful suggestions...off to learn how to use my new toy
  3. Thanks Sputnik 57. Tried the reset...Reloaded Version 4.2 software....Called Garmin Tech Support...seems the unit is truly defective...sigh... Thanks for the suggestions! Cheers,
  4. Thanks for the info. I called Garmin Tech Support. They agree the unit is defective, but because I am in Canada, they can't offer warranty service or replacement. They gave me the contact number of a place in Quebec but they just directed me to their website...www.raytech.com. Sadly, it seems I can pay more money to ship it and have it repaired, because there's no way to ensure it will be covered under any kind of warranty....ouch...I've had good luck with purchases of eBay, but this will teach me a lesson...
  5. Hey NFA, I'm having the same problem with my 60CS...but have tried all the suggestions with no results...Can anyone tell me how to do a master reset? I've been having a similar discussion on this thread. GPSMAP 60CS Troubles
  6. Thanks Jim W I read through the post and tried all of those things earlier today. The only thing I'm not sure how to do is the "master reset" mentioned in the thread. I will post my question there and see what results. If all else fails, I'll put fresh batteries in it and leave it outside for a night !
  7. Alas, it is just a CS.... I just finished reading through a bunch of Garmin Support FAQs. Have one last thing to try.... Wish me luck, it's been discouraging... Cheers
  8. Thanks for all the suggestions... So far, not so good. Tried the large field...after 45 minutes nothing. Tried GPSTrekkers suggestion. The diagnostics screen indicates a signal of about 1701. Powered it off and back on, now it is just "locating satellites" but that can go on for hours with no change. Anyone know what the difference is between "locating satellites" and "acquiring satellites". It's done both with no success The unit thinks it is July 9, 2007 and it thought it was in the Garmin U.S. factory. Is there anyway to tell it what the actual day is? Does it even matter? Thanks again for the suggestions..
  9. I just received my Garmin GPSMAP 60CS (woohoo) and have been trying all day to get it to acquire a satellite lock. I've left it out for 45 minutes...nothing Told it where I'm located...nothing Checked for latest software on Garmin, it is version 4.2...still nothing Read the very helpful topics on this forum, tried holding Page and Enter while powering up to reboot it...nothing Everything else seems to work fine. Downloaded MapSoure MetroGuide maps. I used to own a Magellan Meridian Gold...I don't remember it having so much trouble on the first satellite location. So, I wonder, should I take it out to a soccer field? My backyard is surrounded by trees, but there is a decent amount of overhead sky visible...just wonder if it isn't enough? (I admit it, it's a refurb unit off eBay...) Any suggestions? --Anxious to play...
  10. Thanks for the quick reply. I looked around and the Legend HCX and Vista HCX will be about $100 to $150 more once you include SD cards and maps...so, I'll have to think about that... Cheers, chriscattt
  11. I've been away from geocaching awhile. Sold my Magellan Meridian Platinum, and truthfully, I always found it a bit complicated to use out on the trails, might have been me though , seems I have a great sense of direction until I try to use a GPSr Anyway, wanted to get back into caching and was wondering if the refurbed Garmin GPSMAP 60CS that have been appearing on eBay are a good choice/deal? I realize the newer units have a more sensitive chip and can take SD cards, but for the price of around $250CAD shipped for the 60CS? What does everyone think? Appreciate any and all opinions, Cheers, chriscattt
  12. Hi all, I am new to GeoCaching and wanted to thank all who posted to this topic, it helped me sort out what GPS I wanted to buy for both Geocaching and some Autorouting. I decided on the Meridian Gold as I found it offered with the Streets & Destinations Canada CD and a 16MB SD card for $330 CDN at GPSZone.ca. That seemed a good price for an expandible unit. Now I just have to figure out how to use it
