  1. You need a GPS device. Funny.... I was asked 'Whats the pay off of doing what you do, what do you get out of it?' So, after I gave them my deer in the headlight look, I told them how I have found *new* places in a city where I have lived for 13 years. I have found parks and trails I never knew existed, I have a new-found love for the great outdoors which not only adds to my health but my mind as well. Who can be uptight walking in the backwoods listening to nothing but nature....umm, until you get that one DNF that you know was placed there to personally irk you into an utter meltdown of nerves and you want to throw your GPS into the next ravine....but alas I digress. A Geocacher is all walks, all forms and all kinds of people....the one thing they have in common is they all enjoy the thrill of the 'hunt'! I too end up caching alone, but I know in time I will harrass those around me and make some new geocaching pals.! Just gotta find me an event to hook up with! Good Luck to you and keep doing what makes you happy! Seragilo
  2. Howdy Folks! About to head off for another geocaching day...but I thought I would ask this question. Has anyone else noticed that many of the caches in Southern Ontario seem to be lacking the TB/GC that have been posted there? I am wondering if there may be a '5 fingered discount' cacher out there adding to their own perosnal collection. A couple have had 3 or 4 trackables added over the year and none are moving....Tis getting to the point that I am fearful for those wee gaffers in their caches....they could be entering a Twilight Zone never to be seen again! Sad really...so sad. People put time and effort (and funds) into those and yet there are some folks out there who think the trackables are put there for their own use..... ...........Move Them Along People!!! Thanks for listening Seragilo
  3. Howdy Folks! Being somewhat new to geocaching I am finding that some caches have requirements...now I am not talking about themed caches, which can be fun for all...especially those who the theme caters to. Like when I came across a book exchange cache! It was huge and stocked well and...umm, but I digress. Lately I have come across a few that say (a couple of times in ALL CAPS) no dollar store 'trinkets'. I personally have a wide variety of swag covering many price points, however I do admit that I have some dollar store items. Miniflashlights, Keychains, geocaching magnets/buttons...So, my question is, would it be disrespectful if I *did* leave something dollar storish? The best part of caching for me, aside from seeing the niffty coins and TBs from around the world, is leaving something. Quite often I TNL:something 'cause we all know it is better to give then to receive! *snicker* I just would like other's thoughts on this kind of request. Thanks for the advice! Seragilo
  4. Hi There! I am still quite new to caching (have yet to hit 100 but will today darnnit!) and I was wondering if there were any guidelines to how, or even if a cacher should do any maintenance on a cache. Living in Canada we have every season and all of them carry moisture so I come across damp even soggy unwritable logs, wet swag and soaked caches. I carry with me everything to correct the issue but wonder if I could be doing more damage at times..... -Should a baggie be replaced? If I do wouldn't I be locking in the moisture? -Should a log ever be replaced and if so, what do I do with the old one? What if it is a mini and there is not enough room for both? I have come across logs that were so damp and mouldy you could not read or write on them. I have found geocaching to be a wonderful and very educational hobby, ok...ok....obsession, and would like to ensure that the folks who come after me are able to share in the fun! Thanks for the help! Seragilo
  5. Funny Here! I just wondered myself if people would be offended about my cut&paste approach to logging a find. While I do normally add something to the cut&paste intro, there is only so much I can say for a mini/nano hide other than TFTC! Seragilo
  6. Oh My!!! Let me count the ways! :Gets me outside with my family, friends...neighbours! (I could be a cause of GPS sales spikes in our area!) :We see places in our own city we had no idea about. Found new parks, bike paths and cuddle spots! Nothing like watching a sun set together after a 6 hour geocaching hike! :Connects me with people from across the world...geocoins, TB and one day, my own hide! Last but not least....I am no longer a home body. My Hubby is amazed that I am always wanting to rush out the door for our next find! Only bad thing....tough to be productive at home, so many caches so little time! Seragilo
  7. Yuppers, it said that it has been saved, tells me the number of caches and that I can preview. That is great...so when does it email? I am so confused. Thanks for the reply! Seragilo
  8. Hi There! Being new to the world of geocaching I am finding myself a wee bit confused. I became a Premium Member the other day and tried to get my first pocket query under my belt. Unfortunatly it did not work. I tried 3 times and while it said it was successful each time, nothing was e-mailed to me. Am I doing something wrong? Missing a step maybe? Thanks in advance for the help! Seragilo
  9. Hi There! That is exactly what I was hoping to have done. We stand outside all night for the evening anyways...why not mix my two obsessions into fun for kids *and* adults?! Here was my plan: I would put up the coords for my home haunt. There a table would be set up with information and coords to a couple of Hallowe'en themed caches. The first say...25 people to attend would get their info in a treat bag with extra goodies. I figured it would be a trick or treat evening for all ages. Folks may need their flashlights of course! Extra goodies to those in costume!!!! I shall think about this for a wee bit longer, go over the guidelines again and then decide. Thanks all for the help! Seragilo
  10. Hmmm... Thanks for the info. While I think the evening is a huge event...in my neck of the woods anyways, I doubt it could be classified as a large geo-caching event. I guess I will move the hide somewhre and keep the Hallowe'en theme all year long. Maybe with extra 'treats' when the actual date approaches. Just that the hide would have been a good one...sigh. Ahh well, Hallowe'en all year long...what more could I ask for!? Thanks for the advice! Seragilo
  11. Howdy Folks! Quite new here to the world of geocaching, however, becoming quickly addicted!! I would like to set up my own cache. While I have many ideas I am not too sure about one and thought I would ask for advice from the pros. Hallowe'en is my favorite time of year, and I thought about joining my new addiction with an old one. I was thinking of setting up a Hallowe'en geocache for a couple of weeks....it would be in a heavily decorated area....thats why it would only be around until Hallowe'en is over. Are there rules or guidelines one should follow when it comes to caches and how long they are up for? Thanks in advance for your help. Seragilo
