  1. I'd be happy to try to help, Goofster. Having recently backpacked all over your fine RSA land (and fell in love with Cape Town - who wouldn't?), my memories of Kruger NP (my family's namesake), Port Elizabeth, Durban, Eshowe, Lesoto, Swaziland and yes - even Johannesburg :) ) are still vivid.

Looks like... if you use 122 22.080 - that would put it just off a small road in the Classic Country Club - a mere 45 miles south of me :) May take me a week or so to find the time to run down there, but happy to give it a go if you like.

  2. Last Christmas - by some miracle - my two daughters and their husbands plus 6 grandkids ranging in age from 3 to 10, all gathered in Oregon for the holiday. On Christmas Eve day my dd and I hid 6 film cannisters plus a final cache - a HUGE plastic bag (the kind you "wrap" a Christmas bicycle in) filled with a largish present for each (the latter, in an old barn near my dd's house.)

On Christmas day we all went out to find them - each grandkid got their "turn" to lead the find for one of the 6 micros. We made real easy clues and hides, and created... a family tradition that will likely go on for years to come.

  3. I've decided not to have a trackable coin to sell since most of the collectors I've spoken with could care less.

However, I've decided to finance the run in such a way that there will be a limited number of trackable coins in each run. Say 100 coins per run.

Smart move Snoog's on eking out those gc.com tracking numbers. Just seems like tossing rubles to the 4 winds as verily 1 coin in 1000 will likely ever see the light (well o.k. darkness) of more than one cache.

  4. Purely wondrous design. As the "globalgirl" I'm understandably keen on at least collecting all the country coins that come out, so I surely hope to purchase one when they go on sale.

    <begin whine...>

As it is (errr... was) sales for the Dutch coin suddenly came out in the middle of the night for those of us here on the U.S. left coast.

    <end whine...>

Thus I'd plead only that you at least give the World a heads-up before you open sales - so those of us on the other side of the globe can at least set our alarms to have a prayer of getting one of the pretty Czech dubloons.

  5. The mysterious Swamp Man - who single-handedly made our creepy Quest for the Bloated an over-the-top memorable geoadventure! :drama:

    39c9e231-1baf-4228-b713-c709166ec0ad.jpg

Lurking in the dark for (literally!) HOURS in order to pounce just as our ragtag band of nutso geozanies was merrily signing the log and snapping flash Kodak moments of the festivities (shoot, turns out - he too was nearby snapping flash pics in hiding whilst waiting to pounce!) Not only did he drag a REAL deer head in to add to the gore, but he rigged up a motion activated creepy sound-effect contraption as we neared the lair!

Truly thanks Oh Mystery Swampman - for a purely unforgettable adventure!

  6. OK, I looked up Farrelli's Pizza.  They have a website with a menu, and their phone number is (253)912-5200.  Don't have coordinates, but it looks to be about 600 feet SW of this cache: Dude, Where's my Cache III

Coords for the junction of Wilmington and Center are N47 05.517 W122 38.753

Well o.k. - to be preeeecise, the coordinates for the address of the place are:

    47 05.526 122 37.992

(leastwise that's what multimap spits out...)

So looks like we'll (the cinco centavo lad 'n I) not be meeting up with Weightman for a pre-bloat cache run - in favor of snagging a slice or two of joy for our bellies instead, yes? Fine by me.

  7. RATS! As the "global"girl, I'm determined to at least collect each of any country coins minted. Not even light yet lhere on the U.S. left coast, but already missed the Dutch boat.

    Anybody wanna trade?

  8. WOOHOO I'm IN. I won't be getting out of Burien southbound until 5:30 ish.

Yippeeee - glad to hear it! How 'bout I meet you at Casa Centavo?

gg I need to get those waders to you to try on.  They are mens size 6 and I think they may be too small.  Whats your schedule like tomorrow night? (Thur)  I could swing them by after work at 7:30PM

    7:30ish is fine - thanks!

  9. ...Moun10Bike Geocoin version 3:

    Moun10Bike-Geocoin-3_s.jpg

Holy SMOKES M10B - the new dubloon is purely WONDROUS! What photo is that (clearly not the Turnagain tidal bore )? And what's the inscription - some quote by... Einstein???

  10. 'Nuther positive here - yippity-skippity, I too received a pretty Cyclops dubloon toot-sweetly, along with a sweet Son of Cyclops pencil tucked in! My bitty passport and globe sig are presently on their merry way to your snailbox.

:) YIKES! I neglected to jot down which numbered globe I sent - so do let me know when it arrives so I can log it on my sig tracking site HERE Thanks for the trade!

  11. I might be able to head out early, but likely not before 2:00

Then again... there's a special charm in the experience of savoring but a single legendary cache with a bunch of geozanies scrambling about in the dark of night.

  12. Yippity-skippity - the luscious Ladycacher dubloon arrived on today's snail. Purely lovely - the brushed silver (pewter?) ever so detailed (right down to the bitsy "CACHE ACROSS TEXAS") the the demure bit of color of the 3 hikers adds just the right pizazz.

I'm curious as to the significance of the various icons - the trees, the footprint?, etc.

I'm also esepcially smitten with the tagline: "PURE ADDICTION" - my sentiments exactly!

    Thanks for the trade!

  13. At this point I am 99% sure to be there.
I wish it was 99% for me but still only 50-50.

Pencil (well o.k. peck) me in for 99.5% destined to be there with bells on.

And I'd suuuure like those bells to be on my toes - clad in size whatever waders compliments of the cinco centavo lad!

  14. New Logs: After you post a log the date is made into a default for the next log entry. This is stored in the current session and will reset after closing the browser window or being logged out.

Tried to post this in the new announcements forum but it seems those threads are all (invisibly?) locked. Couldn't find any other spot that seemed appropriate so...

Just wanted to say special thanks to TPTB: Of all the new tweaks, defaulting the log date to the user's current session last used is purely brilliant. Likely but a simple techno matter, but one that makes a world of difference whence logging a string of finds. THANKS!

  15. The bottom line? My initial data was faulty, and it resulted in my puzzle being faulty. If I had taken the time to check with just one person who actually knew how to type, then he would not have wasted an hour in some nasty woods, searching for a cache that was 600' away.

Precisely. And if you'd simply supplied a check sum for the correct solution on the cache page from the getgo - folks would never have set out with the wrong coordinates in the first place.

The beauty of check sum is that it in no way detracts from the challenge of the puzzle. It merely ensures that if folks somehow derive a different set of coordinates than the one you expect/the solution - they will at least know it before they set off on a wild goose chase.

  16. Just a little tip when designing puzzle caches. Ideally there should be only one, clear solution (i.e. with multiple questions, each should have but only 1 possible correct answer) In reality, that's not all that easy to do.

So to ensure that folks don't rush off on a wild goose chase 'cuz they THINK they have the correct solution when they don't (and/or pester you to confirm their coordinates by email), it's a good idea to provide a "check sum" for the solution. e.g. if the solution is N 47 23.532 and W 122 18.788, then simply post on the cache page that the check some for the N is 26 (i.e. 4+7+2+3+5+3+2=26) and for W is 37 (1+2+2+1+8+7+8+8).

You could also have folks solve for just the last 3 decimal minutes of each coord (i.e. 532 and 788 above) and then supply a check sum of N=10 and W=23

  17. All most interesting, and I thank Keystone, ILAdmin and erik88l-r for taking (even more) volunteer time out of their lives (read: spare time when they could be gleefully grabbing boxes!) to better explain the reveiw process.

And while we're on the subject (of the mechanics of the cache review process) I've long wondered... I've heard that the interim wpts for multi caches as well as the true solution coordinates for puzzle caches - are not kept on file after a cache has been approved (i.e. there's no database for ALL cache wpts.) That the interim/puzzle solution wpts must be submitted and are checked for proximity to other caches initially of course, but... only the posted coordinates are thereafter saved in the database and used for proximity checks of future caches. Yes? No? Otherwise, how can some newly approved caches end up just 100 ft. from say... the final of a long-standing multi cache?

  18. Additional coordinates will be a feature enhancement to the web site...as well as stages of a multicache, etc.

Posting of the coordinates for the various stages of a multi? Wouldn't that rather eliminate the need to go to any save the final?

  19. Ok call me stupid, but I have a question about Pocket Queries.  I have over 500 finds, so how do you seperate that on the PQ page???

Patudles is right GeoRoo, just separate your finds by dividing them into a year or two segments.

<and nope, I surely would never call anybody the "S" word...>

Everytime I do this I see I have caches missing...

Likely those are caches that you've found that have been archived - PQ's never capture archived caches. If you have a thousand or two finds, the archiveds can add up to quite a goodly number. Unfortunately, you'll have to grab these GPX files individually - see link below, for how to do it.

I think I'm missing something really simple with this, but my brain is dead.  I'm not a GSAK user and that program has been driving me bug eyed too! ...

Can't help ya with a crashing GSAK, but it is indeed a purely wondrous program. Point izzz... in this case, you don't fiddle in GSAK much at all - mainly only to import and export your finds/hides as a LOC file to send to M10B so he can whittle you a WADC Progress Map.

Do check out the link on the WADC cache page to my step-by-step instructions:

    WADC Cache Glean Primer

Give a holler is you have any questions.

  20. Not wanting to create a test cache page of my own 'cuz it would then remain forever in perpetuity in my account - sigh...

It would be interesting to see if you could build a multi columned table with zero cellpadding and spacing for each of the font color changes. You'd have to have a separate table for each line of text of course - a decidedly overkill workaround but hey...

I'm also curious about your attribute quotes - for some you use double quotes, while others, single quotes. Doubt that has anything to do with it, but try making them all double quotes.

Also.. I wonder if you could use preformatted text to work around the gc.com gremlins.

    Just some stray thoughts...

  21. Last year at this time I was verily a noobie and reading of this escapade - I thought you were all certifiably NUTS!

This year... I am so THERE! Funny how a year of geocaching can fry the brain... :P
