  1. The scattered snippets of pictures of these treasures look purely delicious but... I'll be darned if I can see any pics on your ordering web page.
  2. Like that blind squirrel, logscaler is right - there surely is no guarantee even the most ingenious hide won't somehow eventually go M.I.A. Nonetheless... Depending on the size/weight of your cache container, you could use one of those retractable key rings for the entire system. I have a hide like that (in cahoots with my dd weizguyz in Alaska) that's a bison tucked into the end of a large pine cone attached to a high (but reachable by all but the most severely height-challenged) branch by the keyring. The tree (NOT a pine) is also peppered with stray pine cones for good cammo measure. Been out over a year now and no muggle nor malfunction problems yet. An especially handy hide for Alaska - high enough to avoid the snowdrifts so it can be had year-round. And nope, I see no problem w/ revealing such details of my own hides. It surely can't be any worse than the PAF system, and it serves to encourage more thoughtful hides.
  3. Truly great to welcome a creative new cacher with such thoughtful hide ideas Calypte, As I uh, happen to have a bit of direct experience w/ such "arboreal" hides, I know well the formidable struggle to find jusssst the right tree, and then somehow scampering up to rig the pulley, etc. But - as evidenced by my own such hide w/ 44 finds, 1 DNF and (knock-on-wood) no muggle/mechanical mishaps in over a year - it's surely quite doable, even for a full-sized cache "in plain sight". Prying Pandora is right of course, about dutifully checking the coordinates of nearby caches for your intended hide. And you needn't necessarily solve every blessed puzzle cache in the area - just shoot a note to your reviewer (email link located at the base of the cache page of any cache in your locale) w/ your intended coords and they can best advise if there's any other waypoints (be it multi cache or puzzle) in the .1 vicinity. And as far as your notion that "There seems to be kind of a lack of innovative containers in the Kent area." uh... such hubristic presumptions understandably might well step on a few local geotoes. While the ratio of creative:sameol' no doubt can always be higher (in every geosandbox), suffice there are at least a few in your area that come highly recommended: CENT5 Rocks!!! by Prying Pandora The Jester Doesn't Play with a Full Deck by The Jester Old Burien by Sneaky Weasels Fair in Height 451 by geodude2 And finally, likewise a "first cache" - in a tree to boot!: Up a tree by Gabriella Sciuchetti Hope this helps Calypte. In short, you are wise to approach your first hide with such thoughtfulness. We look forward to enjoying the fruits of your creativity.
  4. Interesting... Coincidently as I've been reading this thread this morning, a noobie cacher who originally logged a DNF on one of my caches, just now changed his DNF log to a smiley log. Fine, that's his prerogative if he'd rather erase any evidence of his DNFs. But what's most interesting is that - as this cache is truly an easy find, his was heretofore the only DNF among the near 30 smiley faces, yet... When he changed his blue frowny to a smiley - interestingly, among the cumulative "Logged Visits" icons at the top of the logs section on the cache page, the smilies incremented by 1 all right, but the 1 blue frowny remains (i.e. the smiley icons = 29, frownys = 1, yet there's only a total of 29 found it and no DNF logs.) This is technical good news for the "Truth in Cache Advertising Dept." 'cuz DNFs often demonstrate the true difficulty of a cache. And thus if everybody changed their DNF logs to a smiley and the Logged Visits icons likewise dropped the number of frownies, future seekers would have no means of judging that some found the cache a bit more difficult than others.
  5. I have one. Yea! Glad to hear it kelita, I was just about to head out to REI. Instead... with the time I saved on this Perseids' Eve - I whittled us all a stash of custom geobuttons:
  6. Seriously? Does this mean I need to go out tonight and somehow try to snag a permit???
  7. We've got room Marc - you're surely welcome to come along and get lost with us! The geojalopy departs Left Seattle at 7 am. Plenty of parking here to leave your car. Shoot me a private note if you'd like to join us.
  8. Well shoot kelita, you just found my Dumb Luck Detour cache - so... you leastwise know a little somethin' about me. I'd like to drive, but would love some company (not to mention a bit daunted by all the talk of spurs, FRS' 'n downed trees, etc.), so... might be fun to get lost together. I may have a chum along but won't know for sure for a day or two. Like the Rover, I plan to set out about 7 am from Left Seattle (with a quick stop in Olympia to snag a "Moon Tree.")
  9. Gosh there's seems to be a lot of these sig item threads popping up lately. Mine's a bitty passport (an exact replica of my real passport - right down to the official U.S. seal watermark on the paper) and the sigs come in a variety of flavors. Each is trackable HERE, and all include the wee passport, while some have an attached blue glass globe with green continents. And for really special caches (milestones, etc.) some have 22k GOLD continents (just 6 of the latter dropped to date). They seem to be quite sought after and I've traded quite a few for geocoins. I only drop them in caches that I favor, give them to geopals I meet at events, etc. else trade for special geocoins or especially creative sigs that I fancy.
  10. Goodness but I've been somewhat out of the geoloop lately and am dazzled by some of the creative sig trinkets being pointed out here. Clearly not the first such "show your sig item" thread to date but just thought I'd post mine (again) here for "show 'n tell": It's a bitty passport (an exact replica of my real passport - right down to the official U.S. seal watermark on the paper) and the sigs come in a variety of flavors. Each is trackable HERE, and all include the wee passport, while some have an attached blue glass globe with green continents. I only drop them in caches that I favor, give them to geopals I meet at events, etc. else trade for special geocoins or especially creative sigs that I fancy (like... vtmtnman's lovely dominoes and scavok's nifty lead token...)
  11. Rain or shine, the geobuttons await!
  12. Whew! The Precious are finally in hand here in Seattle, and oh my - they are simply toooo wondrous to behold! Much larger than I expected, and each one a most exquisite work of art! Very worrisome though on the shipping. Surely wish I'd had that tracking number weeks ago, 'cuz it turns out that the USPS apparently tried to deliver them way back on July 5th. But it must have been the wrong address (though sssooocool surely had the correct one on the package) 'cuz I never received any notice. Worse, they very nearly sent them back to Taiwan as they only hold them for a limited time, and of course I never knew to claim them! In any case, these honeys are truly THE most unique and extraordinary geocoins on the PLANET! Thanks to both sssooocool and Haime!
  13. You say it's REGISTERED, sssooocool? Well then it should be trackable, yes? What's the tracking number? Leastwise we can see where it's at. What carrier are you using? And no, no "office hours" here. the address I supplied is my own little hovel here in West Settle. And while I'm (naturally) in and out most days, they'd surely at least leave a notice if they've tried to deliver it. In any case, still nothing here and nearly 3 weeks now so do let's check the tracking, yes?
  14. Race question for ya avroair: For the "placed with another racer coin" - that can be any geocoin/TB race, yes?
  15. Your coins have been sent on June 28. Thanks! Still no pretties here in Left Seattle. More than two weeks since they were mailed - must admit, now I'm getting a tad concerned...
  16. Hey there sssooocool, still no pretty doubloons here in Seattle. I purchased on the 27th and you confirmed in a post here on July 2nd. No big rush but... should I be worried?
  17. Yup, I got word from Groundspeak just the other day, and only now have had a chance to drop back in here. Turns out the trackable puzzle trinket is a gamepiece from the new "Wherigo" game that GC's developing. Dunno how it happened to land at the precise spot where the micro for my Collage cache was tucked (and even stranger that my micro was muggled whilst the Clue Bug suddenly turned up.) In any case Groundspeak asked me to snail mail the trinket back to them, so... that would seem the end of it.
  18. Well goodness - seein's how I've been specializing in travel to Belize for more than 20 years (yup, back before anybody'd even HEARD of that sweet little tropical gem - we're talkin' nary a T-shirt for sale in the entire nation!), I uh... why I guess I'd surely have to have one of these honeys! Just placed my order, can't wait to see these sweet baubles. Been there dozens of times, in the early days guiding small group trips, and more recently arranging itineraries for independent travelers. Heck, just yesterday I was talking with a geopal that suggested I toss together a geocaching Belize trip...
  19. All very interesting - and most maddeningly mysterious. That thread Eartha kindly posted seems to point to geoswag.com, but... nothin' 'bout geoswag.com on my trinket (rather, cluebugs.com) and... nothin' on the geoswag.com site like my trinket. Thanks knight2000 - your handy "Wayback machine" link provided an instant image. Indeed, preeecisely the trinket I have: Very odd that it should have the official "Groundspeak" logo on it (on the back), and that pecking the tracking number into geocaching.com's trackables they apparently recognizes it ('cuz they says it's not yet activated, and requests the activation code.) Yet... nary a peep about such from TPTB. As I said Eartha, nope, there's no mention of anyone dropping it in the cache logs, but guess I best shoot a note to GS to see if I can get the activation code. Will post here what I find out...
  20. All very strange and can't seem to find any info on... Whilst maintaining my "Collage" cache I found (in place of the MIA original micro container, w/ no mention of such a drop in the previous logs) a (wholly new leastwise to me) type of Groundspeak/Geocaching.com TB. It's a 1.5" square aluminum (same as the usual TB tags) puzzle piece emblazoned with "The Clue Bug", a tracking number and a pic of the quintessential travel bug that we all know and love (but w/ a puzzle piece on his back). The other side has a magnet attached so I can't read everything there, but suffice it clearly says "www.cluebugs.com to learn about me" plus a Groundspeak logo. Ah but, whence I skip to "www.cluebugs.com" - I get redirected to the gc.com trackables page, where... alas there no mention of no new "Clue Bugs", and... when I peck in the tracking number, I do indeed get a hopeful: "This trackable item hasn't been activated. Activate it now." But... when I try to activate it - of course I have no activation code! Question is - what are these new "CB" puzzle TBs? and how do I get a hold of the activation code? A most sweet trinket, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what it is/what to do with it. Plus, how does such differ from the usual TB tag? TIA to anyone who can shed a bit of light on this...
  21. Just stumbled in here for a change and... Holy smokes - those honeys are utterly WONDROUS! Just ordered a set, sure hope I'm not too late.
  22. I too have been out of town and haven't gotton back here to thank Anthus for the info (thanks!) No doubt these sparkly geodubloon threads (necessarily) often go on 'n on, and I'm wondering... Wouldn't it be good to have some sort of a standardized note at the beginning of each new coin thread - with such info updated by the OP as things went along? i.e. coin name, size, colors, numbers minted, trackable, geonic option, ordering deadline, payment deadline, estimated shipping date, etc. No doubt things change over the life of a coin thread from start to final shipment, and sometimes delays arise, etc. But the OP can always edit the initial coin info note as things progress. Point is - leastwise the pertinent info would be all in one place at the top of the coin thread. As opposed to the present willy-nilly system of wading through pages of notes and replies to piece together the coin's key info. Or somesuch...
  23. Thanks, I just printed out the Helmont Kellogg. Dunno if it will qualify, but... as I said, I also do Terracaching and... I know there's a locationless for a grave of a confederate soldier (not an official military site, but in a private cemetery). Given that few of those ever made it out west this far - any chance you know of such in that vicinity? In any case, there might also be a locationless for a revolutionary war veteran, so Helmont might make this good both for gc.com and tc.com. Thanks again all - I'm beginning to get in deeeeeeeep trouble. I arrive at 1 pm at MKE on Saturday, pick up a rental car and... may never make to my Bro's place in Spring Grove, IL til SUNDAY!
  24. Woa! NOW we're talkin'! Thanks so much Kerstin76 - that surely looks like a winner plus... It's verily on my route down 94 and there seems to be tons of good cammo, etc. caches in that park. Shoot, I just spent an hour checking out all the nearbys. Yes indeed, looks like I found my "geonirvana" spot - leastwise for but a 2 days on the ground run. btw, I also Terracache and... there's a locationless TC that, uh, you get a pic of a BLUE-EYED cicada! Good grief. Ah but I remember the cicadas from my youth, and apparently the midwest is presently inundated w/ the little buggers, yes? Plus... I found a map where they're showing up in droves, and one area is the Villa Park/Lombard area - precisely where I grew up, and very near where I'll be visiting w/ family. In any case - thanks sooooo much for the great cache tip. If you or any of your geocompatriots ever get out this way (Seattle) - I'd be happy to return the favor and point you to the best here in the Emerald City (not to mention the ONLY A.P.E. left in North America!)
  25. Yippeee! I've been doing my geohomework here this morning and... I just found - no less than THREE Earthcaches w/in 10 miles of my brother's place! That sets me up to move from a Bronze Earthcache Master to Silver (i.e. 6 earthcaches in 3 states - just need to devise my own earthcache) - yea! Still... would love to hear from anybody with suggestions for extra fine cammo caches, etc...
