  1. BlueDeuce is correct. I had to "bake" my vista for about 20 mins before use, after that it worked fine........
  2. Navman adopted this unit, dropped the mp3 part, gave it a facelift, and now calls it the iCN510. The unit when interfaced with a computer, idents itself as a MIO. A pretty neat little unit for around 350.00
  3. We had an ice storm today which means no caching. Thanks CTD for brightening my day!
  4. Now wouldn't that be cool for a stage of a multi! The coord written on a grain of rice....
  5. In my area we have a KICK THE BUCKET series. There are aprox. 21 of them. Some really good, some really bad. If done with respect, tact, and you leave the sleeping residents and their stones alone, it should be fine.
  6. Mine certainly has threads on it. Screws into the back of the gps. If yours is missing threads then I assume it is defective.
  7. Agreed, but can someone adopt the archived ones? These were a really neat idea. I think that ONLY ONE in each state would be nice. Sort of like the Holy Grail of caches( no disrespect intended). The few that are left are truly Rembrants. Let the approvers in each state(area) hide one. Just a thought...
  8. Would it be possible to replace and adopt one of the APE Caches? I think it was a litttle ahead of it's time. I have heard that many people would like to seek some of the retired ones if they were re-instated. It would be cool to have one in every state, another thing to be obsessed with!
  9. I honestly think that this is by far the best idea you have had for this cache. It would seem to loosen all the restrictions brought about from the beginning. It gives everyone a choice, which is all we wanted in the first place. Good decision.
  10. Being a premium member already I would like to see the following: 1. Caches along a given route 2. The infamous IGNORE THIS CACHE button 3. The ability to get all the caches in a given state in one query, or at least more than 500.
  11. I think it has a right to exist, I think if you asked to log as a note but not mandate, it might work. It would allow smileys to get the cache off the pocket query, stat hounds could get their smiley, and the don't care about the stats people could post their note. Even then I bet you would get mostly smileys because people (including myself) like to find and log caches. Good Luck in your decision.....I would hope it to be the right one.
  12. Kudos to Mom and Dad for their big 600!! I hope to get there one day.
  13. I think this states it all...It is not about the numbers or anything else!! It is just plain MEAN!! Why would you do this? Are you at outs with your fellow cachers? You have posted roughly four times on this subject, so why don't you explain it? I don't think this idea will work until you can IGNORE CACHES on your pocket query. Stop saying that this has given you a new perspective of the community when it was designed to antagonise them in the first place.
  14. Go figure...A private little war. Take it elsewhere!! This it the kind of @#!%$$ that screws it up for the rest of us!!
  15. I don't like it either...I think if you wanted to bring someone here just for the beautiful area then post it as a virtual not a regular cache. Numbers or not, I would like to get something for my gas money. I agree with the FTF NOTE( If you really don't care, go back and change all of your finds to notes, or, at the very least, never log another find, just post all of your future finds as notes. Otherwise, I think your full of baloney.) I have a better idea, from now on the entire geocaching community change all their finds to notes, and furthermore all additional finds be logged as notes or not at all. We won't even have to burden a webmaster and staff for this site. They would only have(?) to publish a list of coords to find. No stats, descriptions, container size or anything. I am sure the owner of the cache is a decent individual so this is not meant as a personal attack. It is just my opinion of this "new" caching idea. Part of the cache description says it all "If your goal is to increase your cache count, don't bother looking for this one." I would be suprised if anyone did.
  16. If I find one like Kit Fox describes(one that has been neglected) I post an archive notice for it. It gets the placers and an approvers attention. If nothing happens in a few weeks the spot is free game to another cache. If it is a well maintained cache then I will try to do what I can to keep it right.
  17. I think you are over reacting just a little. I feel your pain because I have been in the same boat before. You as an experienced cacher, must realize that this is all new to someone who has just started. I have seen newbies say almost anything in a cache log. I think, only as an opinion, that you should explain it to them in simple terms that this is not rocket science and that coords and cache placements could and are sometimes off a little. Threatening to delete someone's logs without giving the writer a chance to correct them is just a bit over the top. If in fact you have contacted this person and explained proper caching etiquette, and he/she still refuses to correct flaming logs then I see no reason why you couldn't delete them. But post a note to others explaining the reason for the deleted logs. Now sit back relax and have a drink. Happy New Year!!!
  18. I use the Garmin windshield suction mount. It comes with a new back for your etrex that locks it in place on the mount. I thought about using another mount but the gooseneck things were to bulky.
  19. Currently when autorouting with the built in basemap it can only calc major roads and hwys. When you go into an area that the GPS doesn't recognize it redraws the map over and over trying to to locate the area you're in.(it gets confused) The solution is to buy City Select and load the maps for the area you are traveling. Then the unit will understand what it needs to do. Topo or metro guide will not solve the problem since they do not have autorouting data within the maps. If you are caching in the woods use the compass pointer(but you probably knew that) not the map.
  20. I will give you $50.00 for the Topo CDs(USA) North America or all the software for $75.00
  21. If you decide not to go with the Garmin product please tell your friend that I will buy the topo....or you buy it, and I will buy it from you.
  22. I have an idea! Take all the lame micros you talk about and put them on top of the light poles or in front of the security cameras that would solve the problem. Might set things right in Music City! BTW I go to Nashville once a year to see kin folk. I love the place!!
  23. Nothing is wrong with an aftermarket mount. They all do the same thing. I just like the compact Garmin bracket, and they also provide a back for the etrex that makes it snap in and out of the bracket easy. The key here is small, and compact.
  24. Yes, BLANK copies. I guess they were mass producing them and screwed them up. The CD case had a photocopied insert. At this point in time and $56.00 lighter in the pocket, I wish they worked, copies or not!!
  25. I absolutely love it...I have several friends that want one now. After telling them what I paid for it with FedEx overnight they said I was a liar..Thank you so much... Don't want to part with those topos do ya? I got scammed on EBAY. I have reported them already. I NEED TOPO
