  1. I'm looking to see the type of Garmin receivers everyone is using. Sorry Magellan owners. How long have you had your Garmin GPSr and what model is it? I'm using a 76CS for the time being and I've had it for a little over a month now.
  2. Please stay on-topic. Your last post was offtopic. Thank you!
  3. I'm going to be as direct and as blunt to get my point across to you because you seem like the kind of person who can't take a hint. Start posting detailed instructions? OK why don't you go boss someone else? I always assume that I'm dealing with competent adults who know how to look up stuff. You're the one going off topic with YOUR setup and TOPO maps and trying to figure out how to work YOUR Garmin in a thread that asks about comparisons. I'm trying to be helpful in my own way. If you don't like it you can go and find help somewhere else. But, from the big baby talk I see here I understand why you're getting so frustrated. No where in your OP did you mention that the "top end ........" that's going to "outperform" any GPS receiver......was yours. I find out later when you posted about the problem you're having. All I see is someone bragging about some setup they've got and then complaining when they can't get it to work and then bossing some guy you just met online 2 seconds ago about how to get YOUR GPS to work with YOUR top end computer. I hope all this is sinking in, because buddy, I'm not your girlfriend you got that? Go whine someplace else.
  4. ZachJones, thanks for the pictures. I found a place today that's an hour from here that carries these. Fenix, aftre trying both units I too felt like the 60CS was almost like an extension of my hand. But, after trying the 76CS and seeing how it sat in my hand perfectly I went ahead and got one. Working the rocker pad with the 76CS seemed more comfy than the 60CS. I must say though the size of the 60CS is real nice. I hope you'll enjoy your 76. -Blue Contrails-
  5. I hate to sound like a pessimistic whiner, but I've even checked sporting goods stores and paintball equipment stores. From the looks of the 60CS it looks like you would operate it with one hand using your thumb as it rests on 4 fingers while the 76CS would actually sit firmly in the palm of your hand, almost cupped, while you use your thumb to navigate the controls. Am I right?
  6. DBleess, Mine worked after I downloaded all the updates from Delorme, including receiver and software updates. One of the downloads was a fix, if you will, for the USB connection.
  7. I've been checking local chain stores so I can compare the two and see how they feel in the palm of my hand. None of the stores carry them physically in the store. A few sell them directly on their websites. So I was hoping someone would have some pictures of what each unit looks like held in the palm and what it looks like as you work the buttons with your thumbs and all. BTW, I'm in Nothern NJ. Thanks!
  8. The Delorme GPS I've got is USB and Atlas 2003 supports it.
  9. Have you ever looked at the map when planning your next cache and thought, "why walk up the trail when I could climb those rocks or walk across that creek?".
  10. I've got a Ham license and I own a few FRS radios. It's good to know that Geocachers have a predetermined FRS channel to use. But, what do you use your FRS radio for when caching? Do you get a chance to actually talk to other cachers in the area?
  11. Well I've been using the WAAS capable Delorme Earthmate with Street Atlas on a PC and it works well when it comes to position updates on the screen and when it pans across from one grid to another. I don't have a stand alone GPSr like say a Garmin 60 to compare the two setups, but I've read an article a while back that compared PC based GPS systems and standalone receivers; The author concluded that a standalone receiver is noticeably slower when it comes to functions like zoom in, zoom out, pan and toggle between different views. This was one of the cons mentioned apart of course of the smaller screen size and memory. I'm contimplating purchasing a car mount for my laptop, but I wanted to hear what others' experience been like before I do so. Standalone GPSr have lots of pros, but I mentioned some cons to make a point. They're both great devices though.
  12. Is there a noticable difference between the speed at which a PC and a GPSr update the screen? What about panning across the screen?
  13. Hi everyone! I've just joined Geocaching and I'm already scouting some locations for hiding a chache. But first I need to get a GPS receiver. I've been comparing the 76CS and the 60CS. They both look like good units. On the one hand I like the 60CS. It looks very rugged. What's the 76CS case made of? On the other hand having the extra memory on the 76CS is nice plus it would be easier to mount in a car. What's your personal experience been like with either one?
