  1.

Some people do hide lame MKHs just for the sake of being included in the series, but I wouldn't let that cloud my judgment.

i wouldn't call it "clouding"; just because there are a few good ones in the bunch is no reason to like a series.

it makes me think of someone who thought it'd be a swell idea to bring those horrid little starbucks caches into this area because it's a popular series elsewhere. i'll hunt 'em if they don't go missing first, but i keep hoping for missing and never replaced.

if you want to create a useful cookie-cutter series, call it "lame caches with no point". easier to filter out. the odd decent cache from the bunch should be culled and given names in their own right.

You are definately entitled to your opinion, but the point is not "lame caches with no point". Introduce us to your town - that's the point. Most of the DTMSUSA caches we have found are very well thought out and some are quite ingenious.

  2. I was wondering why one or more of the cache owners who have verified there is no signature in the log don't just email the guy and ask if he doesn't bother to sign the logs. His answer may not really prove anything, but at least he would realize people have noticed.

I've thought about it, but decided I would not want the barrage of emails that might follow - who knows what he will do since he armchair logs caches....

  3. This same cacher has logged 2 of our caches, 1 of which I am sure was not visited by them. I have not confirmed the other yet.

While geocaching is a game, for me the only competition is with pushing myself to go places I have never been to and do things I have not done. The motivation for behavior this is beyond me.

I'm curious if you will get a response to you email.

  4. I have to say I was really hoping to find the signature on the log of DTMSUSA - Edison NJ, but no such luck. And my apologies if they were out caching with no writing utensil as none is in this cache.

However, if this is someone just logging for the fun of it, you just have to wonder what the motivation is for someone to just set out and log caches they have not found. Have they nothing better to do <<rhetorical question>>?

  5. Don't give up hope so easily. We had a TB out of circulation for 3 years with the hopes of if never getting back out again - it's last log was it being picked up by a cacher that had 6 finds and then never cached again. MUCH to our suprise almost 3 years to the day the cacher dropped our TB into a cache 600 miles away from our home coordinates. And to top it off, the TB was picked up 3 days later by one of the first cachers we ever met who lives 20 miles from us. Hey - you can't make this stuff up!!!!

  6. We were away on vacation once and were FTF on a cache named "In honor of (a specific cacher's name was here)". Nothing indicated they wanted the specific cacher to be FTF on it. We found it 2 days after it was published. We were looking at the cache sometime months later and noticed that the specific cacher logged it on Geocaching 1 day earilier than we did. Now our log for FTF looks stupid.

    Two things come to mind:

1.) Had they put they wanted this specific cacher to be FTF, we might not have looked for it.

2.) Perhaps if someone wants a specific cacher to be FTF, give them the tudes before it get's published.

Just our two cents....everyone is entitled to their opinion.
