  1. GSAK will send your waypoints directly to your GPSr. Compare your setup to mine listed below. Magellan SporTrak Map (serial cable direct connect) WinXP SP2 COMM 1 - 115,200 bps 8 bits/no parity/1 stop/no flow control GSAK settings: GSAK ver. 6.6.1 build 30 Magellan (from drop down) COM 1 115,200 500 Waypoints Check your BIOS setting for the COMM ports and make sure they match OS settings. Are you using a serial-usb converter? If so make sure you have the latest USB drivers installed (reboot afterwards). It's pretty straight forward as long as your computer and GPSr are speaking the same language. You didn't mention anything like Mac/PC, OS version, serial connection vs USB connection. Good luck.
  2. GSAK is your friend (along with being a Premium Member).
  3. I don't have any problems at all running Hot Sync Manager 4.0.1 and Windows XP SP2. I'd say "go for it!"
  4. You can make a map for your TB on this site and have the TB page reference the map.
  5. What are you downloading the coordinates into? Why is the status "closed" by GC?
  6. Have a scenic (read-romantic) spot on the beach prepared with a picnic laid out ahead of time. Create a "fake" cache and put it into the GPSr and let her find the cache on her own. This would be a wonderful final cache stop; and I'm sure a very memorable time for both of you.
  7. I attended an Event in Oregon last weekend where someone lost their GPSr. I posted a note on the event cache page; hopefully, this is the GPSr that was lost, and soon cacher and receiver will soon be reunited. Thanks for posting...guess I'll make an "owner label" to affix to my GPSr for just such an event.
  8. Garmin, Magellan, Garmin, Magellan! Ahh, the debate rages on. You didn't mention how much you paid for these units. I'd take price into consideration. Then again, new versus used. Warranty/No Warranty. Customer support/No customer support. Familiar user interface/unfamiliar interface. Heck, just keep them both in case one dies!
  9. Correct, you do make several "routes" using the pushpins, but then you checkmark these "sub-routes" and GE will string them together creating a single route. Here is an example. This route saves about 6 miles from the default GE route below. This is the default GE route.
  10. You can do this in Google Earth, but it's a little complicated. You can add a placemark by clicking on the "placemark" icon and adding it to the map. Once all placemarks are added and named to your satisfaction, click on the create route from each placemark to the next placemark and repeat this process. Check mark each route and string them together. After your route shows up, you can then upload the entire kml file to Groundspeak. Although there are more steps by using a 3rd party software (like S&T's) and converting that file, I think it's easier to create accurate routes this way.
  11. This is a very SWEET feature. I'm having a blast creating routes in Oregon that I travel frequently.
  12. Try this site to find access on your trip.
  13. Here is a good place to find new and cheap SWAG.
  14. 0.9 miles...granted it is a 2.5/5. I know where it is, I just haven't brought a ladder down there yet!
  15. I've had very good results with Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005. Others report favorably with Delorme Street Atlas (but it costs more).
  16. Wouldn't it be better if you just used the same coordinate system on both...am I missing something?
  17. Entering the registration code ------------------------------ The prompt for the registration code is generally accessible through a Register option in the Option(s) menu of the application on your PDA. This menu option will be available from the screen that first displayed when you first started the application. If you need further information for our Palm OS software, check the following FAQ entries: http://www.smittyware.com/palm/faq.php#reg_code Registration problems? (Palm OS) ---------------------- If you have a problem with a rejected registration code, please check the Registration page at www.smittyware.com for information on tracking down the cause (and probably solving the problem) on your own before sending an email asking for assistance. At the very least, it will speed up the process of getting things resolved. For more informaiton, visit the following URL: http://www.smittyware.com/register.php#reg_probs
  18. We just placed a new multi-stage cache in rest stop #6 on I-5 in Oregon. It hasn't posted yet, but should be active within a week. Please stop by and give it a try if you are in the "area". BTW, there is another multi-cache and a traditional as well at this rest area, but they seem to have gone missing.
  19. There are several audio only podcasts as well as video podcasts that geocachers produce themselves. Podcacher is an excellent weekly audio podcast. Icenrye's Videozine is entertaining as well as Danny and David's geocaching site. Maybe these sites will give you some ideas.
  20. You can always try e-bay for a deal on Magellan MapSend Streets and Destinations USA. I bought version 4.00f for about $20.00.
  21. Here are some user reviews of this unit on http://www.podcacher.com
