  1. The S was a learning experience for me as well. Why the abbreviation means two different things in the same context does not help comprehension or discussion. Oh well. I don't think we get to change it. But if you become secretary general of the UN, please make this one of your top ten priorities. :-)
  2. That is indeed the point. The S in a timezone means standard as opposed to the European interpretation of Summer. Over here Summer is D for daylight savings. PT is the shorthand for what people use correcting for the season change.
  3. Howdy, The header on the columns on http://geocaching.com/pocket says Last Generated (PST). However the times inserted appear to be PT. PST is currently 4 hours off from EDT which my phone time stamps the e-mails in. Comparing the email time stamps to the times stamps in the column they are only 3 hours off. Is anyone else noticing this? Thanks.
  4. Monday and Tuesday ran fine. (9/5 and 9/6)
  5. One of ten did not run for me on Sept3. 1 of 10 did not run on Sept 4. 9 seem to be running.
  6. In firefox 46.0.1 on windows home 10 64 bit I am getting dialogs that pop up that don't seem to serve any purpose. They display [object Object] with the option of OK. This is occurring primarily on geocaching.com/pocket and also on one or two cache pages. Is anyone else seeing this?

    404 Not Found

Problem seems resolved here. Thanks to whoever fixed it or wrote the code that automatically fixed it.

    404 Not Found

Howdy, I am getting 404 not found errors on caches. The following links give them: https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC1EJW3_mt-everly https://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC16CTZ https://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=454b0066-bc01-4bb2-9894-a0d27e0c2329 The list is intended to be examples and not complete. Is anyone else seeing the same issue?
  9. I agree with this. Why does the information about the camera being used need to be deleted?
  10. There are some good insights into caching behaviour here. First, thank you to EngPhil for pointing out that not everyone caches the same way I do. Also HHL has a very good point on being able to load one's gps in a single shot without 3rd party apps. Comments also about not being connected and having crazy travel schedules are also appreciated. There are other metrics that have not been discussed including how far/long one travels to cache and where one is. Several cachers I know are willing to drive 2 hours one way to a day's caching ground. Others are unable to do the same. Cache density and style varies by region of the world. The US seems pretty dense. Southern US and desert US seem to have more power trails and geoart than New England and New York. Australia does not have the same density. This drastically impacts how people cache. As someone who has a geomate JR and a garmin 64, it would be lovely to be able to load these with a 250k cache pocket query that excludes my finds and other caches that I don't care about. That said, I don't thing that Groundspeak is going to be thrilled with upping the pocket query size that much. On the flip side as someone who still owns a blue etrex, uping the PQ size to 2k caches means that I cannot load a 2k pocket query in directly. While these are not the dominant receivers out there any more there are still people using them. See HHL's point about 3rd party apps. This also creates problems for new people joining the hobby with hand me down equipment. Also unless one can download the whole database, then there is no real guarantee that everyone will be happy. A potential balance, that seems similar to what another site does, is to allow a user to download a certain number of caches a day and break them up into chunks of their choosing. So I might want 10 pqs of 1000 or two of 2k and one of 6k. Or maybe I only can choose from 10 1k, 5 2k, 2 5k, or 1 10k download. Maybe I could be able to download 10k caches a day but have 30PQ's that each overlap some. The hope is to have fun where ever you are and minimize "friction" for all types of caching styles, equipment and locations. This includes both yours and that person you just don't understand. That is what keeps it fun for all folks.
  11. I have not seen this in a few days. Either it has been fixed or the furor has died down and the servers caught up. Until the next souvenir frenzy.
  12. Politics aside, I like the feature request especially as the snoopy dog letter boxes in nh have final coordinates but not all apps recognize them.
  13. In response to is the site performance better question. Tuesday AM I just saw a service unavailable message.
  14. Howdy, I am trying to finish off some of my field notes to complete logs today and I am getting "The service is unavailable." messages on the website. Does anyone else see this? Thanks
  15. Well, I agree that I would have have liked the ~~~strikethrough~~~ rendered on the site. However as the markdown equivalents are supposed to look good even when not rendered, why not just use it?
  16. I understand the concern but the implementation seems lacking. Oh well. Thanks for the feedback.
  17. I was really hoping for the ~~~Strikethrough~~~~ but no luck.
  18. Do other folks get nagged when posting multiple events that Your Existing Geocaches May Need Attention before submitting another event cache? It is really annoying as there is nothing I can do with cache in an unpublished state. All I can do is wait for the reviewer to comment.
  19. There is no need. Just use a template such as this one that already has the 50 states (plus D.C.) selected for you. It works spectacularly. Thank you.
  20. If you want to exclude Canada, just select the U.S. State you want included. It might take more than one PQ but you're limited by the radius of a PQ so even if you could select the entire U.S. it would only return caches within the maximum PQ radius. The radius is big enough that it incorporates something on the order of 15 states. I am wondering if a greasemonkey script could solve this.
  21. Germany is in the list of countries. As for the performance, it seems odd that looping over a list of states is faster than comparing a single value in a single field. However databases have some odd optimizations so it is plausible. Was this a blog post or forum post elsewhere and I missed it?
  22. I just bumped into this one. I wanted to do a radius pocket query that did not extend into canada from a point in the US. As dani mentioned, all the Canadian provinces are in the state list and Canada is in the country list. Australia is the same as Canada. What gives?
  23. This still appears to be happening. I assigned a favorite point using chrome, it showed on the page. A refresh did not show it. Then looking at it in IE and firefox it still did not appear. Adding the favorite point in IE did work however. I also noticed I got a pie chart in IE that did not appear in chrome.
  24. I run several different apps for several different purposes on my android. Cgeo is what I use for multi and other caches where I expect to set waypoints in the field. However allowing a cache in only one list and not handling large number of caches in a list it flops. For general caching gcdroid has great api integration and the best live map capability I have seen provided there is wireless coverage. It also has dropbox integration which has been very helpful with gsak. A:drake has worked well for me. Gdak is still on my phone. Cachesense was not scratching my itch but the author was very reaponsive. Good luck.
  25. The pocket query page seems to be intermittent at this time.
