  1. As Geocaching.com gives it's own country, it seems appropriate that all "countries" get a souvenir.  GC60N6F Hotspot (Traditional Cache) in Svalbard and Jan Mayen Islands created by Kaldbekken (geocaching.com) is an example of a Svalbard cache.

The question posed is not really why are some areas considered countries and others are not.  The question is why do some geocaching.com recognized countries not have souvenirs.

  2. So a quick trip report.  I ended up getting a polestar and not a tesla.  The polestar seemed to overestimate my consumption of the battery. This led to plenty of miles available for grabbing side caches.

Downsides was my android phone was unable to push the caches to the cars navigation system.  It could not push any destination to the car at all.

For a local caching vehicle this would be acceptable to me.  For this roadtrip caching experience, topping off the battery instead of just enough took more time but put enough juice in the tank make caching a relatively painless addition.

Range limits and charging times were an issue.

  3. Howdy

Hoping to rent a Tesla to see how ot works for a road trip, how do you push geocaches as destinations to the nav system?

Apparently EVs work best the more information you cam give about the route. It allows them to plan charging stops better.

    Thanks.

Given this game started in the forest and I think that's where it still belongs, my caches will never have this attribute, except in jest.  :P

I see your pooint on challenges. But reviewers can challenge attributes. Also I don't see it with other existing attributes.

As for the start if the game, the original stash and mingo are both park and grabs.

  5. It would be nice to two finger zoom in on text in any part of an adventure lab on android.

Normally I use mu phone inside where I wear normal glasses.  Outside I switch to sunglasses and need larger print to read.  As advemture labs occur in both, it would be nice to dynamically adjust the zoom.

  6. Currently adventure labs have a completion screen after each stage.  It would be nice id there was also a screen after completion of the whole adventure.

The reason for this request is twofold.  The first is to allow the story to summarize the entire entire experience on completion.  There is a whole advemture startup screen.  The second is it makes bonus caches easier for both hiders and finders.  The explicit coordinate can be dropped here instead of some convoluted formula or forcing a sequential adventure.

    Thoughts appreciated.

I bring my phone and a pen.

So I am not quite so minimalist as you.

My keychain and wallet also help.  The keychain has tweezers, a SIM removal tool, and a magnet.  The wallet has a credit card so things can be purchased locally if needed.  It also has length of cord.

Yep.  Same thing.  I suppose it's the like US and Hawaii.

From the wikipedia description, the Puerto Rico/US relation seems the better comparision.

However rather than debate a what should or should not be on the list, the list from RetiredGuy is about how Geocaching.com treats the countries they already identified.

  9. It seems these are spread a bit unevenly "continentally" as well.  Below is the table with what I think the continents are. (Let me know if there is a mistake.)

It looks like they rank as follows for number of "missing" souvenirs.

    10 Africa

    5 Oceania

    4 Europe

3 North America  (Maybe 2 depending on how to count Navassa, a US Minor Island in the Caribbean that is contested between the US and Haiti)

    2 Asia

    1 South America

    Country Continent
    Ireland Europe
    Serbia Europe
    Afghanistan Asia
    Guadeloupe North America
    Martinique North America
Svalbard and Jan Mayen Islands Europe
    French Guiana South America
    Sark Europe
    Mayotte Africa
    Equatorial Guinea Africa
    Congo Africa
US Minor Outlying Islands Pacific/Caribbean (Some disputed US/Haiti)
    Comoros Africa
    Western Sahara Africa
    Central African Republic Africa
    Burundi Africa
    Guinea-Bissau Africa
    Yemen Asia
    Pitcairn Oceania
    Nauru Oceania
    Eritrea Africa
    Guinea Africa
    Tokelau Oceania
    Wallis and Futuna Islands Oceania

And (as I replied to another topic) for Serbia it probably has to do with the fact that most of the world recognizes Kosovo as a separate country, but Serbia doesn't (and still sees Kosovo as a Serbian province). So they probably wait until that is settled, and can then make souvenirs for both Serbia and Kosovo. Western Sahara is probably the same story, since it isn't recognized by Morocco (although Morocco already has a souvenir). I personally am waiting for the Svalbard-souvenir as well :-)

Perhaps the counter point to that thinking is Taiwan which has a souvenir.

    Just out of interest ?

once you complete the Quadruple Jasmer Challenge

What next ? - as i said before i am only 6 year 2000 caches away and long as i keep the current finds up to date

i suppose the next one would be finding the second APE cache

so What next after that ?

As someone who is fortunate enough to be on the 4x list, there are many things to do after the Jasmer.  I completed the 50 US states.  Shortly will be completing canadian provinces. All the US counties and delorme squares are on the list.  Every country is still in the works.   Oldest in every whatever, highest in every whatever, or whatever in whatever.

The point of challenges for me is to give me an excuse to think differently about the world and in the process learn things. Already thinking about countries has helped me understand how airline routes are shaped be long standing international relations. Then there is understanding travel to the far northern parts of the world.  Exploring US counties gives an idea of just how diverse the US is.

Others seem to focus on ports or airports.  For me this does not appeal.

Just think about how you want to explore the game and the world. It should make clear what's next.

  12. Maintaining jasmer level.

Completing a fizzy grid for as many cache types as possible.

Completing fizzy grid for as many attributes as possible.

Completing as many US counties as possible.

Completing as many states as possible regardless of country.

Completing as many cache types for 365 placed and found dates seems to have slid to background.

I still like chasing reviewers even though no new challenges can be issued for this.

I think they gave up on trickling them out a few at a time, and released simple designs for all the remaining countries.  I know I personally have souvenirs now for Brunei, Nicaragua, and Macao, three countries with so few caches, I figured I wouldn't see those souvenirs (at the old pace) in my lifetime.

I am having trouble finding the souvenirs for Afghanistan, Taiwan, Sark, and Svalbard.  There may be more.

    On your Desktop:

    1. Export a CSV file from GSAK

    2. Open Google "MyMaps" and import that file

    On your car's NavSat:

    1. Open Google Maps

    1a. Import the CSV file

    2. Navigate. ;)

Does this still work for you?  I have maps that appear in the my maps website and the maps portion of the app. They are not appearing in the car mounted display. I may be doing something wrong or something changed.
