  1. It's worth the trip. I'm in the process of doing Tube Torcher and it's been the most well thought out multi I've ever done. It's just not one to do in bad weather which has been plaguing us. While you're at it, you might as well do High Water also. It's not far from Tube Torcher.
  2. I noticed a link to the gc.com site in a friend's bio and thought I'd check it out. After browsing the site it looked like something cool to do but I didn't have a gps. I then happened to find another friend who had an emap that he wanted to sell for 20 bucks. So armed with a gps that I think Noah used to navigate the Ark, I was off caching. After I saw this was something I would stick with and enjoyed, I bought a gpsmap 76c. It has made my caching life so much easier.
  3. Right Here I'm working on a physical underwater cache as well that should be ready in a month or so.
  4. I've encountered black racers, numerous garter snakes, and a copperhead while out on the trail. I absolutely hate snakes so my eyes are constantly scanning the area I'm in and I'm usually the first to spot one of the slithering feinds.
  5. Obviously the person contacting you was not the person you you got permission from to place the cache on the grounds?
  6. I'm fortunate PI doesn't bother me much at all, but I try to avoid hiding it becuase I know it can be bad for some people. I don't hide in PI cause that's just downright cruel, but it has popped up around some of my hides with the changing of the seasons. Something that helps my buds who get PI bad is the Burts Bee PI soap. One of them has to go to the doctor most of the time he gets into it and that soap has it gone in 2 days without a co-pay.
  7. Some of us are brutally honest while others are overly sensitive. Just like caches...there's all types.
  8. The stages we've made it thru thus far have been great. If the weather would cooperate and we could get the time set up we hope to finish this one up and also do High Water. I'm sure the last stage isn't going to be a let down on TT. This has to be the most well thought out cache I've ever made a run at. You won't be disappointed in it.
  9. In 11 months of caching I've gotten 4 into geocaching. If I only got a commission from the sporting good shop that sold them the gps units. Oh well......
  10. I have one that's been out about a year and hasn't been found. It is a scuba theme cache. At our monthly events I hear from so many cachers that they have their scuba certification, yet no one has attempted this one that I am aware of. I have hopes of turning it from a virtual to a multi with maybe a triathalon theme in the near future and bump it up to a 5 / 5.Deep Dam Cache
  11. My local army surplus store conveyed the ammo boxes were getting harder and harder to obtain. Will geocaching bring ammo boxes to the brink of extinction? hahahahaha
  12. I actually agree with the view of the cemetaries in the article. I hate doing cemetary caches and have been with groups on a cache run and sat out many a cemetary cache after the sun went down.
  13. Like momma always said, "Opinions are like ________ They're everywhere." With that said, I feel you should place as large a container as you can in an area. Why put an waterproof match container along a trail when there's plenty of cover for an ammo box?
  14. I usually only trade if it's a milestone find or either it's something really cool. But just how many times do you see something really cool or usefull? I'm currently working on a 5/5 with a cach'n bud and I will be leaving an item that's valued around 30 bucks in it. Of course that's retail cost and but it might not be worth that to the few that complete the grueling cache in the future. I think with the minimal cost of premium memberships you wouldn't necessarily keep good swag in a cache. You just have to hope there's "honest" and "respectable" cachers in your neck of the woods. When I start out a cache I will normally fill it with Dollar Tree items, I don't see the point of spending all the money to end up with a golf ball or mctoy collection. Oh, how could I not mention those cheesey plastic snakes, spiders, bugs, and army men. I had a cache that had an item that I really wanted but nothing I had to trade would fit so I left 5 bucks in the cache. I felt that was more than adequate for the trade. A future cacher took the 5 bucks and left a travel bug. Nope, not even unactivated, it was simply a travel bug. Great trade they did, huh?
  15. Sounds like a great idea. GO FOR IT!!!!!
  16. Although I've not completed it, I'm still working on a cache called Tube Torcher I'm working on it with a local caching bud and it has to be the most well thought out cache we've ever done. We were told it took a year for it to be devised and put into place. It is truely an exceptional cache and my hats off to IndianaLee & CrotalusRex for coming up with this.
  17. It's magellan, what do you expect? I was considering purchasing one of their units in October of 04 and still haven't received anything other than the form reply that they received my mail and forwarding it to the appropriate department. Yes, I'll try to take part in the promotion but if I'm lucky enough to land a prize, it will be given to a newby cacher to possibly get them started out.
  18. It's often tuff to be a FTF. Especially when you consider being in an area with a lot of serious cachers. Shoot....we have a FTF uhh uhhh I'll say fanatic in a neighboring town who came into the area to rack up on FTF's for an event. There were approximately 20 new caches in the surrounding area who's coords were slightly off until the night before the event. He went around picking up all the ftf until about 5:30 am and slept in his car until the event started at 10 pm. But getting back to a suggestion on getting a FTF. When I log on to gc.com I will always check the state Iive in for most recent hides. There's times one will pop up just down the road from me and I get the opportunity to grab it. I'm sittingon a little more than 700 finds and only 15 FTF. That's a low percentage in my book, and you alway have to consider if you want to be the FTF the coords are wrong? hahahaha I wish you the best in the search for the elusive FTF.
  19. I think caches, especially micros, have a tendency to want to move around a little bit. Imagine the embarassment of having multiple dnf's on a cache from 1 particular cacher and going with them to find it and you (the hider) can't even locate it. After a 45 min search of the area you locate it 20' away. Unfortunately it happens. I'm guilty of taking a micro and checking out a nearby site and forgetting exactly where it was hidden. The coords had me off 40' so I replaced it as close to the original coords as I could. It was hidden on a gaurd rail on the side of a bank and you could see a beautiful waterfall just down the way. I don't think other cachers would have problems locating it nor do I think it will be muggled.
  20. As was said....one person's junk is another person's treasure. When I start out a cache if it's large enough I include my sig FTF prize which is a FTF sticker that many cachers proudly display on their vehicles around here. If it won't fit, I hand the stick off to the cacher at our monthly gatherings. It gives em an incentive to get to the meeting. Other items include various items from the dollar store and often items I've uncovered around the house that I no longer use. Many people are shocked that the dollar store items came from there. But it goes to the junk vs. treasure view.
  21. I find a lot of things for kids at the dollar store. A buck for something to keep them entertained for a while is worth it. My local dollar tree has recently gotten in some Spider Man beach balls which I loaded up on and have left at caches near the lake. I also picked up some mini-frisbees with Disney characters on them. I'm loaded down with various dog toys too since many cachers go out with their furry friends.
  22. If you enjoy caching, why not support the site. For supporting it with a premium membership there will surely be many perks that you will love and some that you won't ever use. I like the ability to pan on the maps and also pull a pq.
  23. XD-40 on my side when I'm caching alone. Had an instance where some teenagers (after me explaining what geocaching was) asked how much money I had on me. Told em "I hardly ever carry cash, but with this (lifting the coat to the side to reveal the .40) I'm sure I could get some pocket change. Needless to say they went their way and I went mine.
  24. Is the story on line so we might be able to read it? I've never heard of that magazine.
