  1. So I guess all the FTF's that I found first when we go out together are all mine then?!? Yep, except the ones I found first while you were deciding which flashlight you should bring. D'oh!
  2. Take my silence as a hint. You were rude and childish and I knew that responding really wouldn't be productive. If anyone would like to read the email that "Mr.ToughGuyOnForums" sent me, you can contact me through my profile and I can send it to you for a good laugh. Regarding the cache, remember, if I jump one fence from the road and get to a piece of land that is accepted as public, then we are either all correct or all wrong.

  4. That absolutely stinks! I am one of the newer cachers in my area and it seems like we have hit an awesome stride. There are a handful of FTF Hunters and they all seem to have the utmost respect for each other. There are those that sincerely don't care about FTFs and they seem to have a great time too. Not to mention the fact that our old and new cachers are always putting out new ones. Except for this week...it seems so slow.
  5. 28 FTFs for 578 finds in 5 months of caching! I am loving the rookie life!
  6. So my friend got an Oregon 200 and the only thing that he wishes he had was the electronic compass that comes with the 300. I own the Dakota 20 and absolutely love it! It is very similar in performance to the Oregon series (we cache together regularly) and we both like them. The Dakota doesn't have Wherigo (which has already been stated in this thread) but I just use a simulator to run these caches. Either one has a lot more features than you will immediately need, but the greatest of these is reliability with both and paperless caching with both. You can't lose with either the Oregon 300 or the Dakota 20!!
  7. Most likely #3 Some people just don't get the grand scheme of things. Thank goodness there is karma. Prove Karma!
  8. See post 45. It can't be made any clearer than that. If anyone has an argument after that then they are arguing for the sake of arguing. Post 45 is definitely clear, but clarity isn't synonymous with accuracy. Stating your position clearly does not automatically mean your position is flawless. I gotta agree with that. I read post 45, and that is just your opinion in the end. I would have to disagree with that viewpoint, not because I like to argue, but because I am a different individual than you are.
  9. I like where you're head is at! If thats a compliment, thanks. I'm slowly getting the idea that the only people who will get upset over a delayed FTF log are FTF whores themselves. You want to talk about rude? Maybe being a FTF whore is rude. Always snagging the new caches in the area before casual cachers even have a chance.. Ever think about that? If you would care to search you would find that I started a thread some months ago stating that I grew tired of the current crop of FTF hounds in my area. I was blasted by many for not letting people play the game they wanted to play. My opinion about FTF hounds has nothing to do with whether I choose to try for an FTF from time to time. I agree with you that it can take away some of the fun sometimes when it is the same core group over and over. BUT, they are the ones taking whatever steps necessary to be FTF. I may not agree with that style of play but I don't take offense or try to get even with them in some way. Try not to take this personally. I am not saying you are rude. Nor am I saying anyone else who disagrees with my opinion is rude. You are all entitled to your own opinions. I think the behavior is rude. That is my opinion. Maybe you and a few others can get over the trash talking and try to have a rational discussion. Oh come on, stop trying to be the voice of reason. Why would the "casual cacher" care if they got there and there was a name ahead of them. This only affects the FTF hunters. Is it rude to not log your STF? Are you going to mess with all those guys who love getting in second?
  10. I subscribed. I would love to have a new media to share with interested muggles! The name can change, but I really believe that if the content addresses issues that are of interest to our community, it can succeed.
  11. Congrats on your first FTF. I agree they are fun regardless of how many you may have. But don't wait to log it online in order to keep others thinking it is unfound. That is rude in my opinion. Don't know why you would want to do that. How nice... Congrats. Anyone who gets a FTF loves it and thinks it's fun. Only those who aren't capable of putting the work and effort into FTFs are the ones that complain. As for logging it, you log it when you're good and ready. Don't listen to posts like the one above. Just more complaining because of lost FTF opportunity... Nice try, but you failed. I have nothing against going for the FTF. I do it from time to time. I am not advocating running home to log the FTF regardless of what other plans you may have. My only point is that I believe it is rude to intentionally wait to log the FTF just so others think it is still available. Failed at what? My statement about FTF complainers (for lack of a better term) in general, is true, in my experience. And as far as being rude, I disagree. While I've probably only delayed logging intentionally twice in 130 FTFs, I consider it strategy. I don't do it often but have no problem doing and no sympathy for those that don't like it. It is what it is. You failed at trying to make me out to be something I am not. And this thread isn't about FTF complainers, whatever they are. You and the OP can intentionally delay logging your FTF and think it is fun, cute, or some sort of strategy. I can think it is rude. Why do you feel it is rude? Whether it is intentional or not, the effect isn't any different on the person rushing to the cache. It doesn't even stand to benefit the FTFer. Really, this only ensures that some of the cachers that are only out to get FTFs are getting dupped into properly supporting a new cache! Sounds good to me.
  12. Man, I have heard some good thoughts on this subject and then I have heard some soapbox whining like this rubbish. What makes you think that your asssumptions are any more truthful than that of the CO? Blue Eagle said that he found a wide open path to this cache location. Do you honestly want me to believe that the same people that spent thousands of dollars in putting double fences and signs around their property merely "forgot" to put some more after a certain point? This "little crack" that you are talking about is a wooded area that covers many acres, not some trail behind a house. If you spent any time at all analyzing the situation you would see that the fences surrounding the quarry are new and well maintained, where as there appears to be a fence that is quite old and weathered at the point where I listed the coords! The reason I posted the pic was to reassure people that we never had to cross those signs. Another interesting thought is brought to mind regarding the sign locations. Why would they put these signs on fences that are supposedly already inside their property? When we had the quarry between us and Walkers Line there were signs on that side too, who were those signs for? Would they put those signs up to warn themselves to "Keep Out" of their own property? Or could it be that they were warning people that were not on their property to keep out? Try to see things with a little more logic, do you think that we are children that are ruled by impulse? You have met us both, we are average people that have families of our own and we definitely aren't thrill seekers, we aren't looking for trouble. Despite the fact that you know this, you spout off that we would kill animals to get to a cache! That is offensive and uncalled for, and it really makes you sound like a jealous younger brother. Please don't use these forums to insult me and my fellow cachers. These forums are here to discuss issues, to help educate, not to try and sound like a tough guy when you know that several local Geo-Heavies are listening. Do you hear the respect in the tone of the cachers that you admire? Most of the people on this thread are asking questions and demonstrating a lot of patience, try to follow suit. I hope you realize that people have feelings and don't appreciate being belittled. Moral of the story: If you feel uneasy about a cache that has been approved, don't do it! Mare and I felt comfortable with the "risk" as it were, and so we chose to move forward. If you wouldn't I can respect that too. There are going to be many caches where I am either unable or unwilling to make the journey, but some will. This is a community game and as such we can't attack each other whenever we disagree, but we can always hash it out on the forums!! Sorry for any trouble that I have caused!!
  13. This is probably the best advice I have read here. I started caching just over a week ago. I only had an iphone but have gone 18/18 in my attempts. We were within 2 ft of a micro, and with the success we have had another 10 of our friends are now hooked, all in our first week! Once you are within 10 feet or so you have to start trying to understand the hints and think like the person that hid the cache (and subsequently wants you to find it!) and the adventure will go much more smoothly.
