  1. Maybe, if I didn't have the wife and kids in the car... I was able to replace it last night on the way back home
  2. Being a Jeep owner, I've gotten into the habit of only taking with me what I can carry and never leaving anything in the vehicle as it isn't capable of being secured (soft top and doors don't lock). I have noticed upon return from being away that it's space has been violated. I highly recommend you never leave valuables of any kind in the vehicle. If you don't want to carry them into the forest, you can carry a small ammo can in which to place your valuables, then stash it in the weeds nearby - just don't forget it when you leave

  4. I tried to replace my plundered I hate I-5 X cache last night on the way from PDX to Eugene, but encountered a group of police units dealing with a group of people parked near the river. They were only 100 feet or so from where I needed to be, so I figured I'd best wait until the return trip

  6. I've done the "geohogger" thing a few times myself. Not so much by perusing yet to be approved caches, but by lucking out when planning other hunts. Having been doing this for close to 18 months now, and only having ~80 finds, it's clear I'm not as avid as many (I prefer the causal approach). This has it's benefits, as there is never a shortage of new caches to hunt without having to drive all day to reach them. I think it's a healthy form of competition in which just about anyone can participate, providing they have the free time.
  7. AFter reading of yet more bomb squad geocache removals recently, I contacted the OSP to discuss the issue with them. After explaining the activity, they also agreed it sounded like a fun, legal activity (private property issues not withstanding), but said even if they knew a geocache was present in the area where someone reported a "strange object", they are still obligated to investigate it. If they had a contact who could tell them for sure it was a valid geocache (versus checking the website to see if there was one in the vicinity), it might hasten the investigation process and/or prevent unnecessary resources (bomb squad) from being deployed. They also hinted toward something at the state level as local authorities can easily check with state level agencies for ths type of information and it would be easy for the state agencies to disseminate information about geocaching (read awareness) down to the local jurisdictions.

  10. That's pretty good, Seth. We've had 3 so far in the Portland, OR area. First was about a dozen and they've been growing. Most recently we had 25-30 people attend.
  11. there seem to be lot's of them - most probably the result of the forum migration.
  12. A snippet of Oregone's recent posting of a local cache... "on my way back to the car, i saw two people making out on a picnic blanket, and that made my headache even worse. Why can't i find a nineteen-year-old girl to make out with in a cache? It could be in the same cache where Laurencat's kitten is." And my reply... "Poor oregone...I took the family back to this park for a walk today. There were quite a few young ladies which meet his criteria playing tennis in the courts by the parking lot. They even supplied an ice breaker in the form of a stray tennis ball outside the fence. Alas, I retrieved their tennis ball and was the recipient of their smiles (and my wifes glare) upon returning it Maybe next time, my friend." For our sake, let's hope he never meets "the one" so we can continue enjoying his excellent posts.

  14. The first cache I ever found was also the world's first geocache (Original). It was plundered, but the bucket was still there full of water - it's only content was the can of Black Eyed Peas. I didn't take them, but I'll always remember them as the first item I found.

  17. I've got GeoSpike #03 which needs to make it's way to Sante Fe, NM, so you're welcome to take it with you to L.A. From there it need only make it's way due east across AZ and into NM. I'll be leaving for Eugene Friday afternoon. If we can meet tomorrow or next week before you leave, let me know.
  18. I haven't played a Pac Man game for 15 years, so I've no doubt you'd whup my butt. I'm on baby duty this evening and I doubt the wife would appreciate me taking them out, then leaving them unattended whilst I play. Be sure and post the results of the contest

  20. From oregone's description, I'm sure any car could make it, but having spent the last 5 years running the Jeep trails (lift/lockers required) in TSF, I couldn't go hunt his cache without hitting them while there For that matter, I'll likely plan my route to the cache using *only* the Jeep trails and avoid the logging roads, just to make it more fun! Guess I'm not sure why I'd have been walking home unless it's because you would have commandeered my Jeep from me

  22. Views are the number of times the thread has been 'viewed' (versus replied to). Sometimes people read a post or a thread without replying. It's just another way to gauge folks interest in a thread.
