  1. I use the Brunton solar 2.2 for my gps and it works fine if solar is your only option. It comes with a cig. lighter connector which I plug my car/gps cord into. I really don't use mine as much as I thought I was going to but it does come in handy if you are trying to save your batts and solar is your only option. Beware that the output from solar power will sometimes cycle your gps on to batt power and then back to solar power as clouds hide the sun. Not sure how good that is on the gps unit. Especially on days where the sun is in and out of cloud cover. Mine takes direct sunlighg to run the gps unit.
  2. Thanks again. I do have the screen protectors that I bought from Strong Engineering when I purchased the 76S. They sent me 10 protectors and that was the first thing I did when I got the CS. I will be ordering the Gilsson hoster today.
  3. Thanks for the input on the GPS GEEK holster and the sat. reception. One more question from those in the know. What about fit and quality ? Thanks in advance for the info.
  4. I Paid $434 for my 76CS from Off Route.com but at that time there was a $50 rebate from Garmin. Off Route was great to deal with and I have dealt with them in the past. Bought a 76S from them a couple of years ago with no problems. I found cheaper prices but know Off Route would treat me right.
  5. Does the case for the 76CS from Gillson/GPSGEEK allow the unit to recieve good sat. coverage. It looks like the case covers the portion where the gps antenna is housed. I also bacame aware my holder for my RAM suction auto mount is different as my 76CS won't fit in the holder for my 76S. Had to order another holder for the 76CS.
  6. I don't think all that many people have the 76CS as it hasn't been out all that long but sure many more will own one in the future. I just got the 76CS for Christmas and I love it. I had/have a 76S and for my old eyes the color and many added bells and whistles of the CS really are an improvement. I still have the 76S and hope my wife will use it or I will need to sell it. I had all the accessories ( RAM mount, 12volt cable ) for the 76S so the upgrade to the CS was a natural for me. team sidewinder
  7. I use the RAM companies suctioncup mount for my Garmin 76S and it works great. With the rubber mounts taking all the vibration out before hitting the gpsr. It's mounting locations are almost unlimited. RAM is also very good if you ever have a problem with breakage. Team sidewinder
  8. Yes. Something else to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day. THE FORUMS are back. GOOD JOB. Team sidewinder
  9. Have the solar storms effected anyones gpsr signals or effected them in any other way ? Just curious. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  10. I say that anyone putting up with all the crap the admins. and approvers put up with on a volunteer basis deserves my vote no matter who it is. I have never had a problem with either. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  11. The new t-shirt is great. Both color and design are a real plus. It seems that some will always want something else no matter what is offered by geocaching.com and to try to please every individual would be ridicules. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  12. My wife started caching with me about a year after I started. Thus the name change from sidewinder to team sidewinder. We got her a yellow etrex and she has proven herself many times. She really likes to get out and found some caches that I doubt I would have ever found without her along. We have a great time and hope I will not have to cache alone again. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  13. Yes lock em up or they will haunt us forever. If they aren't locked up they are never really dead. Without admins there would be chaos in these forums so lets not critique everything they do. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  14. My condolences on your losses. Thanks for the information and pics. I probably will take my chances and hope my caches never get too close to the flame. Out of the ashes rises the Phoenix of caches. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  15. I love the huckleberries and they can be the best part of a geocache that is hidden in a area that has lots of them. We find the cache first and then pick huckleberries all the way back to the truck. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  16. No problem here and my wife has a basic etrex. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  17. I have two Inova X5 lights and they seem to be giving me good service so far. Why did yours need to be sent for repairs ? Just curious. Let us know how their customer service is. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  18. I really like new things in caches not something left just because someone didn't have anything else planned to leave. I admit that I am guilty of this but not very often. The new flashlights that can be used everyday and carabiners are always a item I can't turn down no matter how many I already have. Geo-coins or a signature item are another item I like to find. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  19. For Team sidewinder a hike would involve a 4 hour time span or longer and a elevation gain or loss of 1500 feet or more. I am very reluctant to take such a hike to a cache that hasn't been found yet either. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  20. I say thanks and keep up the good work. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  21. Click the add to cart icon for the 76S. I think you will like the large display area plus the improved sat. reception although there conditions where the 76S will loose reception too. I had a garmin 12XL before and I do need to keep reminding myself to hold the 76S in the vertical position instead of holding it down by my side in the horiziontal position which I always had done before. Hope you enjoy you new gpsr as much I enjoy mine. Team Sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT. [This message was edited by SIDEWINDER on August 18, 2003 at 05:46 PM.]
  22. I did see a wolf on the way out from searching for a cache one evening. It was my first wolf sighting in the wild outside of the ones found in Yellowstone park. The ones in Yellowstone are becoming quite a common attraction in the winter anymore. Team sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  23. Now that is a mystery of the ages. Some cachers are so good and then I don't know why some even pick them up if they don't want to move them along. I am afraid to put out a travel bug that is too neat for fear that someone will just decide to keep it instead of placing it in another cache. My average is about 50% and the more miles they get on them and the longer they are out there the better the chances they will go AWOL. I know I am pretty cautious about picking up a TB because of the responsibility you have when you take one. Only if I know I will be able to put it in a cache a good distance away and do it in a reasonable amount of time will I even take a TB anymore. Team sidewinde LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  24. Congratulations and a job well done. Keep up the good work. Team Sidewinder LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
  25. I can hardly believe you call your 12XL unreliable. Mine gets the job done no matter what. I have since bought a Garmin 76S but even with all the bells and whistles in the long run it doesn't do any more toward find caches than my 12XL. I have since passed the 12XL on to my son and that was a mistake because now my wife has taken up geocaching and I had to buy her a basic yellow e-trex. I think she would have been happier with the old reliable 12XL but I couldn't ask my son to give it back. I loved the 12. Team Sidewinde LOST AND FOUND DEPT.
