  1. Yes indeed - you don't need any third party software - I've now figured out pocket queries and downloaded one and then when it updated "redownloaded" it and I have to say it's the best thing ever! To have all that info available for less than a minutes work - wow! I imagine this unit isn't for all the "hard core" cachers but I'm currently on a 10 day streak and have found around 30 caches - which is a lot for me! My only problem with this unit is the lack of a user manual - so there's been some trial and error - but other then that all good!! ps - I wish I remembered the name of the user that mentioned in a different thread that with the explorist gc you could just drag and drop pocket queries - thank you!!!
  2. I tried to find a 1.5/1 so many times I lost count. It was off a main bike trail "a few steps" the only thing in the area was a county sign - it was metal. Ah hem... So the family and I looked we acutally looked at the sign for a few minutes and I even felt the inside but figured - nah nothing could really fit in there. And then I actually changed my jogging path to include that spot and stopped anytime there was no one else around. I had so much fun, and as the weeks went on - so many people kept logging how incredibly easy it was! Finally I was messing around one night on the internet and watched a video on geocaching basics that showed pics of nanos. Ah hem - took me about 4 seconds the next day to find it! Still get a big smile every time I jog by there!
  3. I don't think it's so much a issue of being a newbie it's an issue of "entitlement". And people who refuse to take responsibility for themselves tend not to last in an activity like geocaching - so these kind of responses usually end up being by newbies. I just found my 75 cache today - still a newbie in my opinion - the other night I went out with my 4 and 6 year old children and got turned around on where I thought a cache was - the area looked a little hairy so I went by myself and ended up being tortured by stinging nettles! My fault, but my responsibility kept my children ok, and and the next morning --- I was out looking for the cache again. I do think newbie's could be given a little more latitude - but hey geocaching "communication" is often an internet only thing - and we all know that it takes more work to communicate well via the internet.
  4. My husband and kids got me the gc for my birthday! Love it! Of course I was using a nuvi before this and it would go haywire on me anytime I even saw a tree. The gc is pretty cool, haven't figured out the pocket queries yet but I'm working on it (a little tech challenged I am!) Having a lot of fun playing with it so far. Happy Birthday to all of us
