  1. Received my 450 today. Also picked up a Nuvi at a great price! Thanks GPSCity!
  2. I'm interested in having both topo and street maps on one micro SD card. Would this be possible if I buy the topo maps on an SD card? Could I add street maps to it? I think I read somewhere it could not be done. Is it better to get maps on CD in order to manipulate them before loading to an SD card? How much better are 24K maps than the 100K maps Garmin offers? Would I regret spending the money on the 100K? Thanks!
  3. I want to use this Oregon while doing light hiking with my son. Primarily geocaching but we also do some snowshoeing in the winter. My old unit had no topo maps, just the city sreets map software from Garmin. That's what we've been using. Although with much frustration due to signal loss. I have navigation in my SUV and also an iPhone with maps. My idea for this unit is to use it mainly for hiking and also when traveling (rental car) for street navigation. If I go with the Garmin 24k topo, it will give me street maps for just my area right? Not much help when traveling. So, maybe a North America street nav map disk and the free topo maps might be best? How large a SD card would I need to have street and topo data? Is it possible to have one card with all this map data on it? Thanks! As topo maps go, yes. But be aware that a little while back, Garmin made their 24K topo maps "routable". If you already have a decent road nav unit, it won't buy you anything new and you'll be just as happy with the freebies. If you don't have an automotive unit yet, and while I prefer the larger screen provided by one, you might want to take the routable 24K into consideration.
  4. Thanks for all the input! Now just trying decide which way to go with maps. Are the free maps suggested really as good as the Garmin 24K maps?
  5. I currently use an older Garmin GPSMAP76CS and it tends to lose signal under tree cover. I'm considering a Garmin Oregon and have a few questions... 1. Will the Oregon lose less signal when below tree canopy? 2. I have an Oregon 450 being held for me at a local Bass Pro Shop for $269. Seems like a great price but will I need topo maps to use this unit for geocaching? 3. I have an older City Street map CD I used with the GPSMAP76CS. It's got to be five or six years old anyway. Does Garmin offer a discounted upgrade for a new map disk? I also have an iPhone4 and I know there is a geocaching app for the iPhone. Is it any good? I assume the Oregon would be much better than the iPhone, but will it? Thanks in advance!
