  1. I really doubt it. In fact, if the person was just oblivious like another poster suggested you probably went a long way in discouraging the person from every going out and trying to find caches again (or at least for awhile). No one likes to yelled at for enjoying a hobby. If you're going to take the contents of a cache so seriously, you might as well give it up or just buy trinkets at the dollar store.
  2. Or just shop for cache contents at the dollar store and tell yourself you'll only spend a max of $5 on the entire "starting contents" of the cache. Better yet, buy $5 worth of stuff, keep it in your bag and continually trade stuff out, etc.. and every now and then splurge and buy $5 worth of more stuff. Over time you'll have enough junk to throw into your own caches. Around here I don't think people really keep the stuff they take from caches... it just ends up in another nearby cache. Everyone trades the same stuff and is content doing so. We're more into travel bugs then we are the dumb little toys, plus we really just like the sense of adventure in being outside. I've been to two caching events down this way so far and not once have I heard anyone complain and the lack of valuable items or of any items at all. Everoyne was more interested in just having a good time and moving travel bugs around. I guess this just isn't a big issue with the cachers around here. Edit: should have spell checked...
  3. Isn't that whats wonderful about the world and the United States in general? So many people come to the US and take jobs that normal Americans would not even think of taking and to them they're making SO MUCH MONEY that they can afford to even send most of it home and in doing so they''re family back home and eventually them (if they return) are among the upper crust in just a few years! It's really something.
  4. Oh and an FYI, its all goofy like that in OpenOffice because its all textboxes and I guess OpenOffice doesn't read Word 2003 documents properly.
  5. I guess the idea of leaving out the what should be in a cache is due to the fact that anything that will fit that isn't in the NOT ALLOWED paragraph is fair game. Unless someone already has a prepared paragraph (as all the text in that document was just gleamed from various papers people have floating around and from various parts of the website), I'll hold off on updating it till I place my next cache. As for the issue about the .doc, I guess I will mention it (I had before, then removed it, but ill address it). First off, this is NOT directed at anyone in particular. Anywho, I'm sure more than 80% of the world uses Microsoft Office so the format isn't some strange secret.. it's simply a Word 2003 document. I, for one, don't like reading .doc's or .pdf's or any other kind of FILE on the web; but I chose to make the document in Word and post the file because thats whats posted right here on geocaching.com and on many other websites. Most people can open Word documents without and issue and those who can't CHOOSE NOT TO, but normally are smart enough to know how to view it properly by some other methond. I absolutely had PDFs for looking at documents. They're so annoying. All Adobe programs take god knows how much more time than the average program to load.. its just annoying. Anyhow, the document has been made available in .doc (Word 2003) and .pdf to satisfy those who can't stand to use a Microsoft product. I'm from the same school of thought as you guys, but at last I saw the point in actually making and posting the Word 2003 despite my own school of thought. Next time don't be so gun-ho, "OH NO I CANT SEE IT, HES USING MICROSOFT PRODUCTS, EITHER REDO IT OR YOULL BE CONDEMN!"
  6. [EDIT: What was originally here was posted while I was at school, now that I'm home and after receiving an email from Sputnik 57, I digress.....] http://pcmike.net/geocache.pdf
  7. I'm 20 right now and attending college as well. I was turned on to caching by a 50 something, but when I've attended caching events I've seen kids our age!
  8. Well lots of VIEWS, but not a whole lot of opinions... lets just hope this 'no opinion' tide changes come tomorrow! Thanks for those that have responded. Be sure to vote guys!
  9. Done. All the text was just copied from various places on geocaching.com, not written by me per-say.
  10. I plan on using this informational paper for the first caches I'm about to put out soon. Let me know what you think! Link: http://pcmike.net/geocache.doc
  11. How about this one Clyde, I noticed I can save a filter's current center point and have it restored when I use that filter.... BUT I also noticed that when I get rid of that filter and go to another or to NONE the centerpoint remains the same as the one restored from the previous save filter. Is there anyway to have it restore the center point back to what it was prior to selecting a filter that had a stored center point?
  12. Yes, that is what the custom column is for. You can use any of the special tags in the custom column - the one you want is %hint Hot dadgum, you'd already thought of this. Thanks Clyde!
  13. Now that I think about it, though it would be nice for streamlined printouts with hints, its really not too practical most of the time. I ended up using the HTML format and just narrowing down the list of caches to ones that would MORE THAN LIKELY actually still be there and BE EASILY FOUND in a lunch break. Why is it that everytime I always think of some dumb idea to include in GSAK that it turns out its really not worth it after you take advantage of the filters in GSAK! I'm so glad that I paid for a piece of software that is so well thought out and actually functions so well.
  14. Is there anyway to work in "decoded hints" into the grid printout of caches? I'd like to be able to print out a list in the current streamlined grid format, but with decoded hints. I know I could just choose the other format and the hints would be printed, but I don't want that format. =\
  15. Once you fix it up be sure to put a PDA screen cover on it! They seem to work very nicely when it comes to keeping superficial scratches off the screen.
  16. You need to try some better batteries! 4hrs (even with continuous use) is unacceptable. I've gotten and I'm sure plenty others have too... way better performance!
  17. The e2 lithiums are not rechargeable like you said, but I've had the best experience with them. I'm a weekend (4-10) and random (random cache every 5-10 days) cacher and the e2s last me a good solid month. This was before I got my automotive mount w/ cig adapter, so I now expect these batteries to last me even longer. I love them, they're light... last along time and hold a more constant charge (like it matters on a GPS, but still). I'll continue to pay the $10 for 4 of these batteries, they perform too well to switch!
  18. Very interesting, thanks for the tip. I was always opening the email, saving the attachment to a folder, opening the zip, extracting the zip, then opening GSAK, importing, etc... now all I have to do is drag the zip straight onto a shortcut. Very simple, not that it wasn't simple before. Thanks guys.
  19. Don't forget us IMAP users... POP3 is horrible for users on the go who use more than one device!
  20. If you're looking for the software please see this post: http://learn.arc.nasa.gov/worldwind/forums...findpost&p=2028 If you're looking for datasets, just start at the beginning of that thread: http://learn.arc.nasa.gov/worldwind/forums...p?showtopic=227
  21. Bleh, disregard Clyde. You've thought of everything with this these filters. I just realized I could just add "is locked" to my filter criteria so that those wouldn't even be in the notfound filter. Once again, another dumb request w/o thinking and reading.. oh well. Thanks for the great software!
  22. Clyde, I'd like to put in another request... I'd like to see some sort of a "perm. lock." Right now when I filter my caches for notfound so I can delete all the not founds, a few caches that have special requirements and require me to correct the coords are listed in the notfounds and of course the little puzzles I had to solve to get the proper coords took alot of time and I'd rather not delete those. I thought that if I were to lock those special caches that I've solved puzzles for (but have yet to find) they wouldn't be deleted when I do a "delete all caches in this filter," but atlast.. they do get deleted. Is there anyway you can possibly change the behavior of lock to actually LOCK and save things from being deleted in a "delete all in this filter." Appreciate it!
  23. My heartfelt thanks goes out to Team DEMP in helping me. I truly appreciate it!
  24. Well if you have the CS6 update CD can you make an image of it so I can download it? If you don't know how I'll be happy to show you! =\
