  1. I fly out of Hartford (CT) quite a bit. I almost got added to their list by forgetting to remove my phone from my belt. When the guard asked my "What is that, sir!" everyone jumped to High Alert. They do have a nice service there. If they remove something (like a pen knife) you can have it mailed to you.
  2. I've read several times that the 'creative cachers' may need to bend the rules slightly because their caches are so 'creative'. If the rules are not bent for them they quit. Not very creative. In fact, it shows a complete lack of creativity. I had an idea for some caches that didn't fit into the form that TPTB want for caches to be listed here. Rather than throw a hissy fit I decided to get creative. I created my first web site to host the caches. I had a great time doing it. Finders seemed to have a good time finding the caches. Was I driven over the edge? Nope. Do I know any cachers driven over the edge? Nope. Now before you say "But not everyone can build a web site", let me re-emphasize that I had absolutely NO experience creating a web site. While it is no Webby winner, it worked well for the caches. If you're interested you can check it out here. I guess my question is "Why would not being allowed to list your cache here drive you over the edge?"
  3. On overcast days, when it is difficult to look up and find the sun, I find it easier to look DOWN to find a shadow.
  4. Is Kerry a cacher? Are you kidding. He doesn't want to get his $1,200 Guccis dirty.
  5. Like you've never done that!
  6. Ringbone, you've inspired me.
  7. True, but saying something that is sarcastic or mocking is defined as "ironic" (even if no irony exists). More irony-- Hiring someone with their head up their a** as a talking head.
  8. So....because someone (like me) agrees with TPTB you are of the opinion that we are somehow butt-kissing, brown-nosing sycophants? To quote a recent post "I find that position simplistic, rigid, and childish." I find it ironic that EVERY time someone is asked how to improve on the decisions/rules/guidelines made by TPTB they attack rather than answer the question. So I'll ask again. Please provide some concrete solutions to the issues at hand.
  9. No software downloads necessary for the end-user. You, Sean, would download the HTTrack software, tell it the URL of the site you want to download, and it re-creates it in a folder on your local drive. Users would then download that file instead of the PDF. The PDF works fine, but tries to fit everything to "letter" size. The downside of HTTrack is that it is not printed. You'd browse your copy just like browsing the site. Much faster than dial-up, but ultimately you still have to be at your computer. At least with the PDF you can print a copy and take it with you. Just a thought...
  10. Sean, Have you tried HTTrack instead of Acrobat? It also captures the entire site, but no tweaking is necessary. It pulls the site into a nice little folder for offline viewing. Unzipped it is the same 2.5 MB size, but zipped it's only about 1.75MB. I tried Acrobat 6.0 Pro on the mag, but I much prefer the results from HTTrack (which is free) since it retains all of the original page sizes, etc. and you only need your browser to view it. Give it a shot. geospotter
  11. When I decided to create a treasure hunt that didn't fit within the geocaching guidelines here I didn't complain about the guidelines. Instead, I took it as an opportunity to create my own site for the hunt. I had never created a web page before and this gave me the chance to exercise my grey matter a bit. In the end, making the page was easier than I expected. I wouldn't call it masterful, but it works fine. You can check it out here. You can also read about them here. Bottom line, if it doesn't fit here find a place it does fit. If you can't find a place, create your own. In the end, it was a lot more fun than filling out the cache submission page here. geospotter BTW, it looks like I might be going to Mexico in a few weeks. I'd be happy to look for the coin!
  12. So, instead of bons telling them to use the search feature, you want the mods to tell them to use the search feature.
  13. This seems like as good a place as any to bring this up again. Many companies use custom made packing tape (clear with the company logo on it). I've considered ordering some custom tape with some sort of "Official Geocache" info on it. Usually the images are spaced about an inch or two apart. You could pull just one image for a micro, or a whole strip for a larger container. Seems like an inexpensive alternative.
  14. This has all been discussed before. Please use the search feature.
  15. Mel Gibson's new movie is so popular that I hear they are considering making a book out of it.
  16. Turning the stomachs of potential diners doesn't seem like marketing genius to me. You're right, though, my wife and I do notice it. And the instant we notice it we turn the channel.
  17. With commercials like these (and others) I'm amazed at the number of levels of management that approved them. I wish I could have sat in on those meetings.
  18. Very nice! FWIW, there are some more here. Check the bottom of the thread. Of course, they're from South Africa so a few things don't quite fit here, but they are also very nice.
  19. This would appear to outlaw screwdrivers, pens, pencils, butter knives, and a host of other utensils.
  20. Are you guys in 'survival mode'? Trail mix? Granola bars? When the cache is over a mile hike we will bring along chicken, wine, cheese, crackers, fruit salad, apples, maybe some sandwiches, and water. Sure, we have the granola bars in the pack, but they're getting pretty old. The homemade oatmeal cookies sound good.
  21. Good cache type, bad cache type? It doesn't really matter to me. For me it's a question of motivation. Would the particular placement of the cache draw me out of the house? If the location or challenge was interesting I would not hesitate to find this sort of cache. If they were slapped on every pole in a parking lot I wouldn't hunt them. And that could become a major problem with them. I've been disappointed a number of times when I got to a cache only to find a moldy gladware cache with a log that couldn't be signed (but it HAD a log so I guess it's acceptable). At least this type of cache is neat and clean. If codeword caches had their own 'type' on this site it would make it easy to filter them in or out. Again, for me it's the placement not the type.
