  1. Sorry, no answers for you GEO, but I just wanted to say that I use your software and it SHOULD be added to the list. Great work!

  3. I've seen the forums cruising along with 300 people on and crawl with just over 100. It's got to be something else. It almost appears to me that a thread gets locked WHILE someone is replying to it.
  4. quote:Originally posted by ju66l3r:This isn't just to Lep, but also geospotter and anyone else who feels they can set the definition of geocaching to their own: I think if you use your GPSr to find a box in the woods placed by someone else with the game in mind, then it's geocaching. Whoa, calm down. I am certainly NOT trying to define the rules of geocaching. Geocaching.com has already done that, and I will play by their rules. Finding a box placed by someone else with a GPS is certainly geocaching. Finding other things may not be. Replace the box with a set of shaped paper punches and now you are more like orienteering, not geocaching. Use abilities other than a GPS and you drift even closer. I don't want to make this a competitive/non-competitive thread. Using a GPS does NOT make it geocaching. Change the methods, change the 'find', call it something else, and I'm in.
  5. I agree with Lep that geocaching isn't a competitive sport, and that this isn't geocaching. So, call it something else and I think it sounds like fun! Maybe once a month instead of weekly, but I know I'd try it. And central Mass. is perfect for me. I know many people bemoaned the fact that there was no GPSGoldrush this year. It was great fun. This sounds very similar.
  6. Congratulations! Welcome to the fun.
  7. quote:Originally posted by enfanta:Perhaps they should post that at the top of each forum or something. InfoPop's guidelines are available at the top of EVERY page. Goto TOOLS, HELP, FORUM RULES. They are pretty similar to Groundspeak's rules.
  8. While I may disagree with some cachers' opinions here, I would go caching with any of them. (Planet, Desi's real name was Desiderio.)
  9. Meanwhile, back at the restaurant... The sign says "No shirt, no shoes, no service". You can whine all you want, he doesn't have to let you in.
  10. Overregulation? Nah, just regulation. "Adult supervision" if you will. Romper room....preschoolers.....fitting. If you'd like to get a feel for what InfoPop thinks about regulation, go to the top of this page, click on TOOLS, then HELP, then FORUM RULES. A few interesting tidbits -- quote:You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. quote:we at this BB reserve the right to delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever. I realize that this is just boilerplate help info, but it is interesting to compare that with TPTB to see just how lenient the folks here really are.
  11. quote:Originally posted by BassoonPilot:You mean the site that invented the sport? Oh, wait ... they didn't really do that. You mean the site that coined the term "geocaching." Oh, wait ... they didn't really do that either. Irrelevant. Honda has their own site. They determine content and site rules. They didn't invent automobiles or coin the term.
  12. Here is an item I recently added to my pack and I consider it essential in a geocacher's pack (but, hey, that's just me). It's a cache repair kit. It includes extra pencils, logbooks, micro-logs, info sheets, extra ziplocks, sharpies, silica gel packets, and several trade items all stuffed into a box that could be used to replace a damaged one (small). It fits easily in my pack and has come in handy several times.
  13. What ever you do, let HIM find the cache (even if you spot it first).
  14. And true to geocaching style, the girl found the spot and the guy took the credit (twice). At least that's how it works in my family
  15. Nah, everyone understood. Actually, it was nice to see your enthusiasm. Welcome to the fun!
  16. Someone posted a great way to carry duct tape here about a year ago. Take an old credit card and wrap duct tape around it lengthwise (same width). I carry several yards of it this way and it takes up no room in my pack. Thanks to the poster who mentioned it.
  17. Excercise with a view. Good for the mind, body, and soul.
  18. I've just scanned the four pages of this thread and I can't find something (I may have missed it). There is a lot of discussion/complaining about the removal of the images, but I can't find anyone posting a good reason why they should remain (carleenp's #1 came close). Before you post a "it tells everyone a little something about me" reply, if you want me to know something about you in a discussion please post something more definitive, like your IQ. And let's not forget, you can still post your sig images in your profile.
  19. True, CR. But, correct me if I'm wrong, your browser must then compare the image in your cache to the image on the other server to determine if it has changed. Even if it has not, a call is required.
  20. It may not affect the server's performance (and thank you for your explanation), but it DOES affect virtually every client. The end result is the same -- for the page to display a call to another server must be made.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Sissy-n-CR: Makes perfect sense to me! Not to me. With all of the calls to the other site for information the response of THIS site is now dependent on the response of the OTHER site. Unless I'm missing something, Jeremy can work his butt off trying to improve the response time here only to have his efforts damaged by calls to other, less responsive sites.
  22. Brian, I recently cut my finger and hesitated trying the new liquid bandage products since I really didn't want to put crazy glue on a cut. I bought "New Skin" liquid bandage to give it a try. It's great! Not really anything like crazy glue. It puts sort of a rigid gel over the wound (I know, rigid gel doesn't make any sense, but that's my best description). It's also an antispeptic. It is also much more protective than I would have thought. It's going in my first aid kit.
  23. I keep reading about pi$$ing off SO MANY customers. It's just not so. First, a very small minority read the forums, an even smaller minority actually post here. Eventually it gets down to the same 10-15 people making hundreds of posts complaining about this and that. I'm sure to THEM it looks like SO MANY people are upset. But to me, it looks like the same dozen over and over. A dozen (or even two dozen) out of TENS OF THOUSANDS of cachers really don't amount to a hill of beans.
