  1. Good advice... to tell someone where you're going to be. And also good advice to record the info on your own answering machine. I just may have to start doing that when I cache alone. Last week, I found myself down in a small cave/crevice and had the thought that if I got hurt I'd be there til the next cacher happened by. And it's a very rural cache! We're lucky that we live in a rural area and have lots of caches nearby. Oh, and be sure to carry a first aid kit in your car. Last week I managed to crush my left index finger between two large bolders and my kit came in very handy.
  2. Wow, that fairy sure has been busy! I still think somewhere in the gold country foothills on the way to Lake Tahoe (CA) would be a great place for a fairy! Congrats to the two new finders!
  3. Wow, beautiful coin... just wondering if there are any left?
  4. So glad there were a few still available because as soon as I saw this coin I knew I wanted one (okay, had to have 2)
  5. Hmmm, I sure hope the Geocoin Fairy finds her way out west to CA.... Lake Tahoe is an awfully nice place to visit!
  6. Thanks to all who mentioned the Swissgear walking pole from WalMart... I picked one up today and it looks like it'll fit the bill perfectly
  7. We found a tiny glass lady bug that looks very similar... this one is a bead that I thought I'd string onto a keychain or something similar. It gave me the idea to go to bead shops and get different types to leave in micro caches.
  8. Oh, definitely country! But then, I live out in the country and don't mind the dry dusty roads, the stickers, bushwhacking, etc. We live in an area surrounded by historic gold mining towns and close to Lake Tahoe. Plenty of great places for caches!
  9. For me, I've learned that a lot has to do with the type of cache that I might be FTF on. If it's just another roadside micro (picked up about 8 in one day fairly close to home - no big challenge), then I'm in no rush. If, on the other hand, I know there's a new cache out there, hidden by someone I recognize as placing good, and challenging hides, then I'll go for it. I definitely don't cache at night, we live in a very rural area, narrow roads, few lights, sometimes questionable terrain, etc. I'm always happy just to see another new cache in our area!
  10. Not sure, but I do carry: bottle of water first aid kit mole skin for blisters bear bell (frequently cache in bear country, and big cats, etc) spare batteries pens extra baggie or two map book and local maps camera swag to trade mosquito repellant wipes bee sting kit (came in handy last week when I was stung 8 - 10 times!) emergency blanket energy bars small maglight whistle matches chapstick Schrade utility tool I carry the bag if I'm caching in our rural areas; if I'm just caching in town I leave it in the truck. I'm sure there's more, but that's all that comes to mind right now.
  11. Test Cool.... got it. Don't know how, but I did.
  12. I sent in for a GJTB about 1 1/2 weeks ago, and was surpised to receive a package a couple of days ago. We drove up into the hills and placed it this morning... haven't seen any others in caches in our area yet. Hopefully more will start showing up in caches soon.
  13. I just used the same screen name I use on another board... one that's horse related. Chance is my youngest horse's name, so I'm a Chance rider. Not too original, but it's been with me for years.
  14. Ditto to Nomenature... when do you think you'll start taking orders? I'd love to get on the list! Thanks for all the effort and hard work you've put into this project!
  15. Just dropping in to say hello... I live in the Somerset/Fair Play area outside of Placerville. I started caching about 2 years ago, but only cached occasionally 'til this summer. I seem to have more time this year. I am married, no kids, unless you count the horses, dogs, cats, goats and emus! I've been described as a "rabid" cacher as I want to cache as often as possible. I also like to ride (horses), kayak, fish, and read.
  16. Pretty much the same situation here. I've become rabid about geocaching, while I think my husband tolerates it. My solution is to plan things he likes to do (i.e., fishing) and get in a few caches on the way to or from the lakes we fish. That said, I still cache alone about 75% of the time. I do have one friend interested in learning to use her GPSr and plan on dragging her along on a few caches. Hopefully she'll enjoy it and then we can combine my two hobbies: caching and horseback riding. I hope you find a fun solution. It's no fun caching alone when you'd rather have company.
  17. Ohhhh, being a BRAND NEW cacher, I need all the help I can get! Please add my name. I think it's a great idea to keep passing it around once we've read it. Thanks!
