  1. And no trade is required, unless there are specific instruction to do so attached to the travel bug. Travel bugs are not trade items, and they belong to the person who paid for the tracking ID. Cache owners cannot restrict the movement of bugs they don't own, regardless of any instruction on the cache page. Feel free to take as many as you think you can move along quickly, and help meet their goal. If no goal is specified, the default goal is to travel (hence the name, Travel Bug). I can agree with the majority of what you said. I don't believe that if there are 10 TB's in a cache that ONE person should take all 10 though. True, a TB is meant to travel but let some of the other people have fun with moving around TB's as well.
  2. Great job pilotsnipes. I was thinking on getting a Nuvi and this helps big time!!
  3. Great info. Will keep this in mind if/when I decide to create a cache. Thanks
  4. Not intended to be snotty, but I believe there are links to software on the resources page of geocaching.com. Or google them. Try reading a little and then if you are stuck ask for specific help. In the Time it took to be "Snotty"....You could have given this Person some Real Help! I get so tired of People who are on the Forums all the Time, Posting Snotty, and Rude Comments. Alot of New Cacher come to the Forums for Questions, and Hoping for an Answer. Instead of Making them feel Stupid for not Using the "Resources Page", or "Search a Topic" Feature.... Maybe inform them there is a "Resource Page" or "Search a Topic" Feature, and offer them Help in using them! We were all New at One Time, and the Geocaching Forums are a Great place to get a "Bad Impression" about the People who Geocache! IMHO And heaven forbid if someone helps themselves FIRST before asking for help. "Yup, let's clog the forums with the SAME OLD QUESTIONS that have been brought up over five hundred times." Go ahead and count how many "What GPS should I buy??" threads. Thought so. And how about the "Stickies". Yup, those wonderful little threads that somehow, as if by magic get "stuck" to the top of almost every forum. For instance, the one that is in the "GETTING STARTED" forum with the sticky that says "Read First! Geocaching Frequently Asked Questions." Frankly, Hallycat did what others ought to do and I commend this person for it. They weren't "snotty" in the least and if you READ the post in it's ENTIRETY, you would see that Hallycat DID give info on what should have been done. So how about coming down off of your soapbox Holy One and in the time it would take for you to RANT, YOU could have helped them as well.
  5. Great post Brian. I was just going to mention the same thing. How about the fact that people need to be accountable for what they do and with what they do it with. Society is so litigious these days a person can barely do anything without someone wanting a "free ride" HENCE lawsuits. Children these days know the difference between right and wrong (what amazes me is grown-ups quite often forget that as well. Take that idiot shining laser pointers at planes) Now if he found that laser pointer in a cache, his attorney would probably use Geocaching somehow as a scapegoat for the stupidity of his client. I am all for leaving nice/unique/fun trinkets in a cache, so just use your best judgement. As a sidenote, I have a TON of baseball pins that I have duplicates of (Oakland A's all the way ) but do I need to worry about "little johnny" sticking his little finger when attempting to attach it to his shirt/hat? 6. Great question. Renegade had some good answers and I would go along with him as well. If a webcam (the website to view the cam that is) is public, I wouldn't think that there would be any problems with using it at all to have geocachers have there picture viwed on the Internet. Again, just my two cents but it seems perfectly legit. RoC
  7. Thanks Rob. I also wanted to add that I had to go visit my mother today and I wanted to see if the unit worked like it did earlier and sure enough.....it seems to be quite happy with a newly flashed firmware. I picked up quite a few satellites and was down to around 12 feet accuracy. As mentioned before....thanks a bunch for mentioning this and I hope your GPS continues to work well.....that is until you get your updated one RoC
  8. I just wanted to give a quick update and mention that my GPS V seems to be back in business again I went to firmware 2.40 (from 2.50) and went outside to see if it would work and LO & BEHOLD, the little guy started picking up satellites again. I then went back to 2.50 and went back outside and it still works!! It seems that the firmware is somehow getting corrupt and a quick flash of the GPS again seems to have "put everything back into it's proper place". Hopefully it stays working this time and I won't have to send it away. Thanks for the suggestions and take care. RoC
  9. Amazing news Rob! REally glad that your GPS V is working again. I have a GPS V that I bought in late June of last year and about a month ago, it started doing the same thing that yours is. No being able to pick up any satellite reception. I initially bought it for Geocaching and unfortunately have never used it for that purpose. Frankly, I have barely used it at all so in essence, it is in MINT condition. It just all of a sudden didn't want to get any satellite info. I at first initially attributed it to it being a foggy night when I wanted to play with it but have since tried on multiple occasions (today has one of the most BLUEST skies. Not a cloud in site) and attempted to use it again and it was a NO GO. I ended up calling Garmin and spoke to a support person there who said that these things can happen and will be issuing a RMA for me to return it (the support person said that they had a transformer go out in the neighborhood and will need to email me with all of the info WHEN they get power back up) but I am going to try your advice and see if I can go to a earlier version of the firmware to see if that will help me as well. I'll probably still end up sending it back but like you, I might take my time a little ESPECIALLY since I had a trip tomorrow (to see my aunt and uncle in Concord, Ca) and I still manage to get lost going down there. Again, glad you got your "little fella" working. RoC
