  1. nice coin... my only suggestion would be changing the Finger Lakes section with The Woods section. As it is now the sky in the upper right is green and the lower right is orange land. By swithching sections your land would now be green and the sky portion would be a nice orange sunset/sunrise.
  2. going back thru some of the owners archived caches the answer lies on the cache event titled CACHEAID i hope that link works.
  3. do you have an ALDI's nearby? I saw some Yellow Etrex's clearanced there for $55.
  4. i managed to capture multiple options in my photo, but it too has no votes. let me know what you think of the pic so i have input for the next round. http://www.geocaching.com/track/log.aspx?L...59-42f2aaab1a92 thanks all!
  5. you could try the site weird us it's got some places.
  6. U sed to go backpacking alot, I had a Coleman & Eureka(models I have no clue). What I would suggest is getting in touch with your local Boy Scout / Girl Scout groups. I used to backpack with both and they had their favorites and usually were on the lighter side and green or tan and used al poles. (Might be able to point you to the discounts too) Hope this helps
  7. Very Nice. My suggestion is change wording under www.Groundspeak.com to: 'to learn my goal and how to help' that's all I got
  8. When I was growing up I used to have a Daddylong-leg family that lived in the corner of my bed-room. As kids we used to pick them up and study them. Even when we'd take them outside they'd somehow come back. After a while my mom decided to rearrange the furniture so they had no corner to occupy. They are quite harmless and very delicate. Best thing to do would be look up what types of spiders are located in your region. Then you can research to see if any are posionous. I've done that with the snakes in my area. Although now that I'm writting this I think I'll research spiders as well. Thank-you!
  9. I put out our first cache recently to see how it would go. It was placed by my daughter, I went out and bought some great items to go in it. However she had other ideas on what should go in "her box". So I felt pretty bad that the cache was on the skimpy side to start. She did let me place the FTF prize that I bought in the box which was a Fairy Barbie Doll. Now all I have to do is go back and put the items I bought for the box in it while she's at school. Other than that: If I'm out by myself I don't bother to take anything. I find it mostly a reward for the kids to trade for something if the cache has items in it. But even they know not all boxes will contain things. We just enjoy the hikes and learning of new areas in our region to explore.
  10. Tupperware's great for high traffic areas. Ammo cans are better for out in the woods. I think anyway. Who's gonna hear that thing clang open out there? I find it very hard to try to keep ammo can from banging exspecially with my 2 kids. I hope my ramblings helped
  11. It's possible to get more tb than caches visited, if you visit the 'bug motels' or caches with multiple bugs in them. I found one awhile back and there was atleast 7-10 tb in there. (Having only 10 or so finds at the time I could probably of picked them all up and then had more tb finds then caches.) I try to only pick TB's up if I can help their mission. Or if they have no objectives with them I might pick-up just to add a laminated mission note to them. I also try to place in a cache that has no other TB's in it. More to your question I've seen logs where people have revisited to pick-up bugs (mostly jeeps). My guess is it's common practice. I hope this helps.
  12. Sounds almost like you could make it a locationless cache, and we could sumit the photos, etc. I think it's neat and have hiked a few such trails in scouts. This would be a great way to see points 'farther up' the trail or same view different seasons.
  13. I just thought it was funny... kids and I found a cache awhile back and it had one of our trades from another cache in it. We got a chuckle as right now I only have 51 found. Just for laughs was wondering if anyone else has seen their trades pop-up elsewhere. (Bag had my name on it, with clip still inside)
  14. Here in NY, i've found that caching has shown me more trails then i previously knew of. I try looking on state, county or town park websites for trail listings before heading out. But have found some of the best sites are that of area hiking groups, they often have more info and pics of trails. Hope my rambles help
  15. I cache with both my kids, I've only done 2 by myself, the kids are 6&7. They can usually handle 1-2 a day depending on length. After that they get bored. They were really excited about going out at first. Now it seems I have to work it into a deal, such as we only go to a site that has a playground. I'm saving all multi's and such to when I can go solo, which isn't very often... hey school starts soon thou-
  16. Ok... here's one I went out and checked on do to cache supposedly being relocated by a fellow cacher to a new site. There are 3 found it logs and one of them even said they didn't find it but thought it was MIA. The 2 cachers before him that "moved" cache hadn't found it either. They just gave cords to a 'new' location. I went out today and found cache still in exact spot where i found it and none of the 3 signed log... I already emailed the owner. I don't see why they can't write a note or a dnf, or if really embarrassed they can just pretend they were never there (this one's just a 50cal ammo... very good hide it took me 30min to spot)
  17. Hey all! I got into geocaching by myself as I saw that there were caches placed in parks near me that I went to with my kids. After getting a unit and taking them "treasure hunting" they love it. My hubby says it sounds like fun (but has yet to come out with us!) We'll get him hooked somehow Any way got my Mom hooked too!
