  1. We've just returned to geocaching after about 2 years. Alot has changed on the website since then! We have placed a couple of new caches in our area that in the past would meet the terrain rating of 1 (flat terrain, no obstacles, etc). We're now being encouraged to note them as wheelchair accessible. Someone in a wheelchair could easily reach the site, but the caches are placed high off the ground. I don't remember ever being asked this question before, so I suppose it's another improvement to the site. Should we change the rating to a 2?
  2. Same thing happened to us when we were just starting out. Found a GREAT place, and as we were building the container, another cacher placed a micro in the same area. Sure we were disappointed for about a week, but there's no way in *ell we would ask them to remove it. That's an insult to your fellow cachers. We sucked it up and kept looking until we found an even better place for our container. I would suggest you do the same. Not familiar with your area, but I'm sure you can find another great place for your multi. Think of this experience as a lesson learned the hard way. Don't dally when you've got a great idea! Fill out the online form, mark that it's not active, get it placed as quickly as possible, and activate it. Next time you'll know better!
  3. The Kit Williams original book was "Masquerade". Still have it, I read it to my kids now, and it brings back memories of elementary school (we were devistated when the treasure was found). The Bee Book wasn't as intriguing as the first. Thought about creating a cache themed around clues in Masquerade, but I think it (the book) might be hard to find these days.
  4. Funny to see the actual name of the tree, and how I spelled it, based on phonics! Bodarck looked right to me!!!
  5. Down here in the South, we call 'em 'Horse-apples'. I think they come from the Bodark (sp?) Tree. Try sleeping in a house with a tin roof during a thunderstorm and have them suckers fall out of the tree onto the roof. Sounds like WWIII !!!!!!!!
  6. Looking for some quick caches to do when we hop off the ship in Cozumel, Belize, Costa Maya, and hopefully Grand Caymen (doubtful). Any suggestions? I've looked some up, but it's kind of hard to tell from the cache pages if they are easy to get to from the ship (without renting a car, etc)
  7. All our conversions are done on jeeep.com. Type in one format, and it spits out all the versions. Very useful tool. It also has a direct link to topozone when you convert your coords.
  8. Don't know about that, but what a beautiful cave!!! We've been to most of the large commercial ones in Texas, and this was by far our favorite. Just had to mention that. Du's Crew Spring, TX
  9. Sam Houston National Forest is FULL of woofadillas. No Way are we going out there for a cache.........did I hear someone say 'cache'? Sure, we'll go!!!
  10. I know what you mean about Magnolia Tree! That's why we didn't make it to Four Wheel Power!!! No human can run fast on all that sand...
  11. My grandmother came up with the name 'woofadilla' for any mystery creature heard but not seen while out in the woods. We have certainly had our share of woofadillas while camping, but since we started caching, I think they're reproducing as fast as rabbits. Anyone have any encounters with woofadillas, or other mystery creatures? Any speculation as to what they actually were?
  12. Regarding our Sign. Item: We geocache in honor of my Grandfather who 1)loved scavenger and treasure hunts and 2) was the only person licensed to sell Astros merchandise back in the late 1970's. We inherited his merchandise when he passed a few years back, and thought it would be a fun way to honor him.
  13. Yup, we were going to place one in the same area the day after tomorrow, and had even come up with our own history lesson about the Blimp!!!! And the Trogs beat us to Seal McDougle by a day! (so we moved that one just down the street: Where the Sidewalk Ends). I'm telling you, someone is reading our minds.
  14. We think some of our local cachers have been bugging our house. Everytime we are about to hide a new one, BOOM, the exact cache comes up in the area. We think someone should look into this. We have had to resort to communicating with sign language. When we are ready to open a cache discussion, we just do the 'hand on chin' signal. Hopefully this will solve the problem, unless they've snuck in and are videotaping us!! Anyone else had their ideas 'stolen' just as they are about to place them?
  15. We'll be in the area this Saturday and if we find the cache we'll move it to a TB Hotel near Houston Intercontinental Airport. This particular TB Hotel is usually pretty active with cachers on flight lay-overs constantly dropping and picking up TB's. I'll have to look up the name of the airport cache though. I hope we can help your Bug. Du's Crew, Spring, TX Oh, BTW, good call posting on the SE TX Geocaching site, that's where I picked up the topic.
  16. We use these enamel hat pins with the old Astros Logo. Left nearly 80 so far. They're great because they fit into some micros.
  17. There's a cache in Texas that involves this as well as all kinds of stunts and locations. It's called "Quantum Leap". It sounds like it has alot of 'The-Red-Dog-Barks-at-Night' sort of stuff. Reading some of the logs, this guy has really put together an incredible cache. We will be starting it pretty soon.
  18. What do yall (I'm from Texas) do when you see someone seeking your cache? I spotted someone the other day, so I just honked at them and waved when I passed. I had to chuckle, wondering if #1, they found it and #2 what they thought of someone with a car full of kids honking and waving at them when they thought they were being so INCONSPICUOUS!!! 19. We consider older, inactive cemeteries to be a great source of local history. If placing a cache in or near the cemetery brings people to it, then that's a great thing, especially the younger generations. How many of us know the source of some of the roads we travel on, names of schools we attend, or the history of the town we live in or pass through? We have learned a great deal just by perusing through cemeteries, reading names and dates, and are always surprised at how many names we recognize, although they've been buried for well over a century. Our goal for caches we place in or around cemeteries is that those who seek them can appreciate the significance of who came before us and the influences they have on our daily lives. Just remember to be careful where you place it, so nothing is ever disturbed or affected in any way.
  20. None of my map features "view map" or "map it" have icons on them anymore. Only the ones I've found. Everything is check marked in the legend, but none show up. Have I done something to cause this? NEVERMIND! THEY'RE BACK!
  21. So it doesn't have anything to do with how much traffic is in the area? I thought it meant you have to open it in your car to keep from being detected. Is there another name for this?
  22. What would be the definition of a "Park & Grab"?
