  1. ....be accepting of the fact that there will be some you WON'T FIND...at least on the first try. The caches you went for aren't necessarily the easiest. The fact that others have found them might have something to do with the fact that they are familiar with the hider's technique and way of giving clues. Caches hidden in ivy are hard (imho) as there are MANY places the cache could be. Sometimes the clues for these are good...sometimes they are not so good...and sometimes we just don't interpret them correctly. I'm sure you will have "ah-ha" moments on some of these tough caches just as you have had on the easier ones. After over 600 finds, I still run into caches I can't find, and on a second trip (or a third) I wonder how I could have missed it. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  2. ....at least one Society cacher has expressed an interest in my Patti's Point cache and I have just placed another cache in the same area. For info on these caches, start here...at Where's That Valet#4 and use the links at the bottom of each of five cache pages to see the other descriptions and trail distances to each cache. Enjoy ! 3. ..... My series of caches at Lake Pardee is now complete. Begin with Where's That Valet#4 and continue with the links at the bottom of each of five cache pages. (The Kiln...is the newest of these five) Enjoy ! I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  4. ....and photo ops.... The latest from Colin Powell....hey, wait a minute! I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  5. ...probably everywhere around here. I hit this one by Fattuhr and then placed a new cache called The Kiln and another called Katie, Bar The Door! before I went on to this one by George. The Kiln was a 10 mile round-trip, but well worth it and finding a couple was fun too. I also took a peek at this one by Bill Spring can't be far away now .... it's even staying light later. I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  6. ....no flak jackets needed in Stockton. Our rep for violence isn't really any worse than anywhere else (IMHO). There certainly are sections of town (and any town) where it might not be a good idea to be driving around at 3 a.m. AND none of the caches are anywhere near there anyway! I'm sure your lists are current, but I have pulled my Pythagorous, Diogenes and Century Plant caches for awhile, so don't go for them with any old coords you might have. We have a few here (most mine...the rest Mike & Connie's pretty much) and there is a smattering of caches by some other folks too. Fallen's great UNKnown cache is here. I saw the other day that Hotfoot had a few DNFs in the area...might be good to check those out. One was mine, one was Fallen's and one was from the bay area....forgot who placed it. Have fun where ever you guys end up. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  7. ...central valley cacher..... Got this response from a cache approver shedding a little light on recent difficulties getting some caches approved.... ************** The thing that is killing us right now is lame narrative on Virtuals which causes us to generate mail inquiring what the heck is so special. Plus Locationless Geocaches of street signs. Plus railroad tracks. More and more our mapping software is indicating tracks, as well as on Topozone. Then we get responses back saying the tracks were removed 10 years ago and now it is a popular bicycle trail. Go figure. ************* Considering that the maps I use sometimes show cemetaries on the completely opposite side of the road (and hundreds of feet away) it's no wonder the tracks on abandoned railways still show on the maps. I remember reading somewhere that even the most current computer map programs are using data that is 10 or more years old. With all the modern subdivisions going in, it's quite obvious that it would be impossible for map-makers to keep up with new roads, etc. Ron I've never been lost. 8. ...some virtuals are drive-ups, just the way some micros are drive-ups. But then, some physical, quart-sized *real* caches are walk-ups too. What's that saying...you can make some of the people happy all of the time and all of the people happy some of the time, but you can't make all of the people happy all of the time... Guess we just have to settle for some of the time. I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  9. ....are good ! I've been taking pics to send to people for clues (or to remind myself) of where a cache is, but now they would come in handy for cache approval too. ************** Does this concept look familiar? Generating more caches to find! It's like any other *invention*....across the country and the world, people come up with the same ideas. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  10. ....and other caching views... I don't think getting around virtual approvals demands all that much. Seems like they don't want the coords to take you to one of the thousands of historical markers where you then just have to answer some questions about the plaque. In my Far From The Mississippi cache, the coords take you to a statue then you have to go looking for the answers to some questions. There is a historical marker nearby, but I decided to make the questions relate to something completely different...and not that difficult to find. Still, it is a virtual and makes you hunt around a bit. I've been to a number of virtuals like this and my guess is these get approved without too much trouble....after all, a hunt (beyond the coords) is involved. In my Meet Larrycache, the coords take you to a place, but then you definitely have to look around for some answers. The same is true for my Only On Sunday cache which has only been *found* by two people I think. ************ As far as not placing virtuals *around here*....I think you said, does that mean you think they might get more approval if they were in say Texas or New Hampshire? I have asked several approvers to give me an idea of how the cache descriptions now get to them. Three separate approvers are looking at one of my caches, and one of them has looked at it four times. Despite my efforts at explaining that it is safe (an abandoned railroad line)...it is still hung up...no train is going to run on what is left of the line....a bed of ballast...no ties, no rails! (of course it could be something else is holding it up too). Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  11. ...sounds like I might be the closest...in Stockton. Send me an email about your city location and when you would like to go and I'll see if I can go on some hunts with you. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  12. ...is good news? I think it's still on, but the new coordinator hasn't said anything yet. It's still a month away. Looks like a pizza party coming up...up north. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  13. ...drama is as drama does..as mama used to say...life is a bowl of caches. In regard to your recently unapproved virtual caches, give them a little time...I'm sure they'll come through. When I was approving caches about 1.5 years ago I stopped doing it because it took so much time and the half-dozen or so of us who were doing it were busy even then. When I placed my first cache (it was cache #640 something in the system) there were something on the order of 200 or so caches a week coming in. Now it must be much higher than that. The recent cache numbers are in the high 50K area. My point is that the approvers (however many there are now) have a lot to do on a Monday or Tuesday when all the new weekend caches come to them. Try posting a new cache on a Wednesday/Thursday and see what happens...of course the approvers may be recuperating from all the Monday/Tuesday work. I just tried to publish one this morning and got an archived message because it appeared the cache was on an active railroad...after my assurance this is not the case, I think it will be approved soon. The caches are out there and will be out there...no rush to get to them...MOST OF THE TIME ANYWAY! Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  14. ....bites the dust! Or in this case some one bit it! Fun Guy He'll be back...maybe closer to Stockton...maybe not. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  15. ....a favor to ask. Can you check my note on the FUN GUY and if possible do a check on it. If not, I'll just wait for another did not find to see what I will do next. Thanks... Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.

  17. ....are you on drugs or did you just lean on the keyboard three or four times? Geez! *********** Some weeks ago I told Fizzy I'd be happy to try out his new program...this was just after I blew away the terrible Mobi-Pocket and got Plucker working so I could use the Spinner done by LilDevil. I got that all working AND Watcher and those are both great programs. Any of the folks using these might have the same *problem* I'm having (except for those smarter than me)....that is the programs create so many folders (zip, extracted folder, etc) that I sometimes lose track of what works with what ! Tie in the EasyGPS and this is one lot of *connectivity*. I know Fizzy's works as a stand-alone on the home computer and that's a BIG plus I would say. Now to find the time to try it out ! *************** Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  18. ....Randy's comments make the most sense. Some people just don't mesh. George and I are two of those people (this is of course my OPINION). I am not sorry to say that my six years in the Army did not include razor wire assaults. The gas chamber was bad enough. Razor wire at 30 paces at dawn anyone? I'll send my second. While it may be discomforting for people (newbies or not) to read of two people going at each other like this, if it dissuaded them from continuing to geocache, then razor wire certainly would not be their thing either. I give people more credit than that. Finally, I received an email from a cacher who indicated he/she thought that Jaimee had called off her involvement with the Olive Grove party because of this rift. Puhleeze ! This imparts WAY MORE importance to the rift between George and I and its impact on life than is even humanly possible to give a passing thought to. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  19. ...yes you are a lot more of a lot of things than I am George and plenty of people would agree with you on that. I am one of them. Yes, it's true I don't believe you went over the RAZOR WIRE. If that means I'm calling you a liar, then yes, I'm calling you a liar. So be it. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  20. ...thank you for the email telling me why you cancelled your involvement with the Olive Garden party. I'm sure someone else will be happy to take over the arrangements. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  21. ....you may not watch the TV show Friends, but they often talk of going *Commando* and it doesn't mean going over razor wire. I remember reading your log and I don't question that you found it....you seem to imply that I don't believe you found it. All I was questioning was that you went over the razor wire. Doesn't that seem a little *daring* even for you? I would think you would have gotten cut up. I would never go over razor wire, so I guess that makes you a more daring person that I am. As far as the *screw you* comment, well what can I say. I am not calling you a liar. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  22. ...yes, I know the equipment you are talking about. I used it on one of George's caches and I brought it with me this morning to the Green One. However I did not need it as I was easily able to touch it this time. I have always been under the impression it was deeper in horizontally and at the same vertical plane that I found it this morning. This is why I said that new information which only 30 minutes ago came to light shed NEW LIGHT on what I felt about this cache and its placement. The fact is...as I reiterate for the umpteenth time over the last 2 years that an individual places a cache and sees it from his/her perspective. I do the same thing. It is very difficult to say how ANOTHER cacher will see it. I'm sure I acquired your Down Under cache differently than you placed it, and the others who found it probably did it in two separate ways also. On that one you gave a very good statement about what DIDN'T have to be done to get it. I thought that was very good of you as there is potential for problems there. Anyway, once George goes over the razor wire and I go over the rail, maybe we can lay the whole thing to rest...with George bleeding from multiple cuts and me with a few broken bones ! I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  23. ....We all (the whole valley group) meet at A Bridge Too Far where you will go over and through the razor wire at the top of the fence using what you had with you when you originally did it. Then we will all go down to the green bridge and I will go over the rail. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  24. ....can you HONESTLY tell me that you climbed an 8 foot cyclone fence topped with circular razor wire, went through the razor wire and down the other side? If so, there would be several words which could describe that feat. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost. 25. ....hopefully for all concerned, my final words on that subject. I just talked (not via email for the first time) to one of the people who was an early finder of this cache and who shall remain anonymous. It seems the place I found the cache this morning under Fallen's new placement WAS NOT where it was originally placed. The new placement (soon to be changed to the old placement) was vertically improved and accounts for some of the misunderstanding as to where the original placement was. This casts a new light on some of the info regarding this cache. My other concerns (again for MY caches) is that someone might attempt more than they are capable of and both they and I might regret it should some harm come to them...but then that is their decision. It is my decision not to place a cache in a manner that might be misinterpreted and that might lead to problems. Anyway, everyone who found Green One, go for Down Under...a whole new set of fun. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
