  1. ....you snooze, you lose. In regard to the newspaper story in the Record. The newspaper's webmaster changed the link. The one that works as of 3/13/03 is : Hide and seek goes high tech Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  2. ....Does Macy's tell Gimbles? Wait, this is 2003...does Wal-Mart tell K-Mart. The solo aspect was tricky....but can be done. Visit the spot and check out the physical log. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  3. ....If you're going to continue to occupy that number 2 spot, you've GOT to go for.... this one! Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  4. ....If you're going to continue to occupy that number 2 spot, you've GOT to go for.... this one! Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  5. .... Try this one if you have not had a chance to read the story. Hide and Seek Goes High Tech....Take 2 I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  6. ...die man..... I keep forgetting that even someone who has found say 250 might not have happened on one of the micro types hiding in that box car. But, once you've found one, you'll start finding others, I can guarantee you. I've placed one in a lamp pole, but have managed to avoid the others so far...knock on wood. ************* Marky... When I started looking for tupperware, they ALL were at the ends of trails in Las Trampas, Briones, Sunol, Alum Rock, etc. Now I think those are more rare than the micros-and-metal type. I have discovered some new hilly areas in my own area and have been hunting and placing there, but eventually I'll get over to the *bay area* more. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  7. ...I like your cache idea. Here's another. Find the boxcar (moving) with the number SF 2457 on the side. It is in Northern California. Inside are 500 shopping center light poles, 500 newspaper vending machines, 500 soft-drink machine enclosures, 500 park benches, 500 sprinkler heads, and one oak tree with 3 hollow trunk stubs. Find the non-magnetic, 1 quart tupperware container. Shucks, I think I gave it away! Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  8. ......burned me. I missed one (Stop,Go 3) in Lodi the other day. These things are a problem due to their very nature. The one I missed didn't get posted as found (and rehidden) for about 36 hours, and of course I went looking for it much earlier than that. It has now moved twice again and SEEMS to be sitting a mile or so from me, but I am not keen on looking for it thinking it might be gone again and I would be *wasting* my time looking for something that doesn't exist. Of course it might be there and I wouldn't be able to find it, but at least at that moment I wouldn't know. A dilemma. I'll just take my own advice (often offered) and if I don't think something is for me, I just won't look for it. ************ There are a number of cache types I don't look for, and my caches which involve long hikes are ignored by most cachers, so the theory that we look for what we like seems to hold. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  9. ...were nice and sunny today. This is the second time Marilyn, I and the doggie went hiking here without doing any caching. A certain freedom to that I am coming to enjoy. The only *electronic* gear I took was a pedometer. At the end of the day while we were standing outside the green Explorer, a maroon Jeep Wagoneer was going by a short distance away and I didn't recognize the driver, but I thought I heard someone say...that's Ron. Turns out it was Brute Force and his son-in-law. They were up there looking for some they hadn't gone for before...in the dark the first time I think. Anyway, exchanged some pleasantries and went on our way. That's a great area, and we still have some exploring to do. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  10. ...that it is easy to misinterpret what someone says. Mike... I know your feeling on CACHING macros. My comment (in its own, backhanded, off-the-mark, way) was trying to determine how you felt about macro body parts ..... male or female ! If size matters....as some will hold...macros are in a sorry state in both arenas ! ************* Now Mike... In regard to CACHING macros, maybe you just haven't found the right ones. I'll email you a couple you might be interested in. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  11. ...are YOU saying you really LIKE macros! (or do you have size requirements too? Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  12. .... The thrust of the news rack thread here was that these were private property, commercial ventures that some cachers use for cache placement....not the fact that one might need to spend a $1 or so to find a cache. The thread was started because another cacher challenged one of my virtuals which required a cacher to go inside a commercial establishment to get answers to cache questions. I was trying to make the analogy that the newsracks presented a similar situation...i.e. a commercial venture...which in the case of the news racks required a purchase. My virtual required no purchase. As far as fees for parks go...I am willing to pay them most of the time, but I sometimes suggest to a ticket taker that I left a hat inside yesterday and would like to go in and find it. They usually will give you a free half-hour to do that. Obviously, if you are going to go on a multi-mile hike, that would not work. A few bucks helps support the trails and hopefully keep the restrooms clean. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  13. ....should be able to turn a fancy logo like yours into a stamp at someplace as close as.... Office Max Office Depot Staples All of which *I believe* have access to stamp making sources based on design printouts they are handed. Or, try a dollar store. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  14. ....I don't know why your one just South of Stockton doesn't get more attention. Maybe people think they have to come in from the south in the area of Hawk's Watch, Valet, Down Under, Nothing But Knives and Doggies Best Friend. It would be quite a walk from there, but is CLOSE to another entrance. The concept itself is OK, but doesn't do a lot for me. Maybe if it got started more I would do them though. How about trying another one or two to generate some interest? Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  15. ....OK, too much fun with Jaimee's new signature line. I don't know if you have The Record available down there or not. Of course I could give you one of the 100 copies I have. One of the pics shows me reaching for a micro in a gazebo...a little revealing...of the location, not of me. Oh well, can't win them all. I think the cache placers will be OK with it, and I certainly had no control over what pics they took or which ones they used. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  16. . . . You want pictures? Well, you could go to a newspaper vending machine and....buy a paper. Or...maybe this one would do. I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  17. ....you know how it is! When you go as a *group* someone sees it first. On this one, I was about 6 feet away looking over an edge, and Mike *jumped up* vertically, looked down and saw it right below him. It was a fun trip, and Mike does his columns on many subjects...most recently the changes in a women's prison unit near Stockton. He's interesting to talk to about a lot of topics. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  18. ...who don't read the CVC forum. Hide and Seek Goes High Tech. The reporter and photographer gave away a bit more than they should, but overall this should be a plus for the central valley caching scene. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.

  20. ....what I expected. Proving once again that there is something for everyone in geocaching, and that there are MANY opinions about a given topic. The fact is that geocaching's *rules* are broken on a regular basis by any number of people. A true *purist* would seek permission for almost all caches placed. In my opinion, MOST, repeat MOST, people don't. If YOU seek permission, more power to you. Newspaper vending machines, soft-drink machines (and their enclosures), pay-phones, electrical, phone, plumbing enclosures...all provide spots for placing magnetic caches in my neck of the woods...central California...and I'm sure in other parts of the world too. The likelihood is that 99% of these caches are placed without permission. Aside from the newspaper vending machines, I have placed some of these myself. Enough about that. Now *off topic*. If you don't want to follow the link below, DON'T. *********** I took a reporter on a geocache hunt earlier this week. Here is an accounting of that search Hide and Seek Goes High Tech. Though the reporter gave away a bit too much, this hopefully will spur some new cachers to join our *sport*. Please, until you hunt these caches, don't be judgemental. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  21. ...the story can be read at Hide and Seek Goes Hi-Tech. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  22. ....in the Meet Larry cache to accomodate those folks (like myself) who use PDA's. The cache has moved about 200 feet. It's physical. It still requires answers to questions, but the questions are on the page now. This saves the PDA users who travel 1,000 miles to find this cache...thanks for that effort! Also, (though *off topic*) readers of this thread *may* enjoy reading Hide and Seek Goes Hi-Tech. The reporter and photographer gave away more than they should, but until you make the trip to these caches, I hope you won't *rush to judgement*. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  23. ....I resemble those remarks! The article came out pretty good. Fitzgerald and the photographer gave away a bit more than they should, but two of the caches are fairly easy and will be good introductions to any newcomers. The third one this team placed *A Toast To Marky and Joanie* would be harder...stumped me for a bit...and wasn't part of the newspaper hunt or story. They are all in Weston Ranch in the southern part of Stockton. As Jaimee said, you can check it out at Hide and Seek Goes High Tech Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  24. ...The Record on Wednesday the 5th. Mike Fitzgerald accompanied me on a hunt for 4 caches on Monday. We grabbed two new ones in Stockton and two older ones in Tracy. Hopefully it will be a good story and encourage some new folks in Stockton to take up our *sport*. I'll post the internet link on Wednesday for out-of-towners who might want to take a look. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  25. ...I have made some changes in the Meet Larry cache which address the issues originally raised. The folks who found this one are free to log it again if they choose to go for the new physical version of Larry and if they provide the new set of answers. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
