  1. I got it working now. I dont' know if all the steps were required, but it works. I installed CB 2.0.0 and the GPS worked. I then re-installed 2.1.7 and once again, do not get a GPS lock. I went back to 2.0, it worked. I then went to 2.1.1, and it worked. I looked at the GPS options, and noticed that they were set to INTERNAL !! I changed it to Bluetooth, and lost the gps function. Went back to Internal, and it worked again. I am now running 2.1.7, with GPS still set to INTERNAL, and it is working. *note * The 8320 does NOT have an internal GPS. Though somehow CB will only read the Bluetooth GPSr as an internal GPS. geojim Posts: 1 Joined: Sat Sep 19, 2009 6:06 pm
  2. I can get GPS functionality with BB maps Google Maps BB tracker Blackstar GPS tracker Amaze Navfun Mobile Gmaps, and others, using a keychaing GPSr, but can not get cacheberry GPS functionality to work. I have the newest version, 2.1.7 of cacheberry and OS 4.5.0.81 on my 8320. On Rogers Wireless. I of course have made sure that Cacheberry has all of the permissions enabled. I can go to advanced options and refresh, and save the GPS but that doesn't help. I can open up blackstar, for instance, while running cacheberry, and get a sat lock in 2 seconds. (blackstar does not like to "share" the GPS, and will not get a lock if I am using GPS with Navfun, for example) I have uninstalled googlemaps. (it is known for having problems, including uninstalling other GPS software, such as mobile Gmaps) I then re-installed cacheberry. I like Cacheberry, and would really like to be able to use sort by current location, and the compass feature. Has anyone had any experience with it, using a bluetooth GPSr? PS. I have tried to find help on the cacheberry forums. There are a lot of threads covering how to unlock GPS functionality on certain providers' phones, but can find nothing that resembles my issue there. I have so far been unable to get them to send me an activation email, so that I can post there.
  3. Don't be so sure. I saw a lady on tv who could carve the statue of liberty on a grain of rice. Of course, a grain of rice would end up in the moldy mush in the bottom. Any etching on a steel shot might soon rust away, but maybe a plated, or stainless shot could be micro etched by someone with a jewelers loop and a steady hand.
  4. I picked up a dynamo/solar powered flashlight/radio/USB cellphone charger at the electronics gaget shop. The unit has a URL imprinted right into the handle www.etoncorp.com I tried it out, but haven't needed it yet. If you're gonna bring a flashlight, might as well bring one that can charge up your devices in an emergency.
  5. If you are in a wilderness area, bring an old fashioned magnetic compass. Batteries and electronics can fail unexpectedly. I recently took my brother, a scout leader, on a hike, to show off my new GPS phone, and place my first cache. The terrain was tricky, and kept turning us away from our intended direction. Several times, we walked 100s of yards before finding that we had to retrace our steps. Without the GPS, we could easily have strayed far from the road, and possibly had to wait for clear skies to navigate our way back.
