  1. Your right! Maybe this idea is feasible after all, Groundspeak could get rid of that silly no vacation cache guideline and as long as you are properly insured, you get a paid trip to Hawaii.
  2. That is true and it was originally started in the off-topic section as kind of a fun joke but maybe it was taken seriously? To be clear, I don't think it would be a good idea to sell insurance on film canister or even ammo boxes. Travel bugs on the other hand... Or maybe I was just informed it is a platinum member feature and I have been paid off to shut up.
  3. No, take this seriously. This is about providing important financial coverage in the event of the destruction of a geocache. This feature is not for the people it’s for the container. Every day, hundreds of caches are ruined and there is currently no procedure in place to try to restore the financial loss to the owners. This could be it. Never again will geocachers have to worry about financial ruin if their film canister gets lost or stolen. This is about peace of mind; this is about helping the common cacher. This will also solve ALL problems associated with owner maintenance. Because the financial burden is taken care of, all those caches slated for archival and will be fixed promptly by their owners. With wet log protection, you will NEVER have to endure the cost of buying a new log again. With this new proposed feature we can help eliminate probably 3/8 to 9/17 of all current problems associated with geocaching today.
  4. People with CWI will not be dropped and neither with pre-existing muggled conditions, but there may be an increase in your deductible. Furthermore, I don’t think there should be a discount for multiple types of caches. Also Cache owners under the age of 26 can remain on their parent’s cache insurance plan.
  5. That could be another plan- multiple cache discounts. Multi caches would have to have an extra charge based on the number of stages. But just think, this could be balanced out on the low rate you would get on virtual and earth caches. There would probably be a significant discount for power trails because people sometimes replace the containers anyway.
  6. I guess there would just have to be many different levels of coverage. We could have a bottom of the barrel-just covers the container level as well as a top of the line insure all expenses associated with hiding and maintaining a cache plan. As far as the prices go, you can't put a value on piece of mind and a good night's sleep knowing your ammo box is protected in the case of a disaster.
  7. Sorry, I didn't quite finish that so excuse the possible grammar mistakes. Anyway, I know there may be problems. For one thing, people may try to milk the system. The street value of a bison tube O-ring is only going up so it may tempt people to abuse this service. Therefore, the company would need a claims investigation and fraud detection department. Also not everyone would want this service so we would need to make it pretty cheap and offer other benefits too. But I think it has potential. Any thoughts for a name. Edit for spelling
  8. After reading a recent thread about a damaged series, an idea (original or not) popped into my head- a company with the goal of insuring geocaches. This could be an off-shoot of Groundspeak or I will start it if they don’t want to. Just think, for a small monthly payment your cache could be protected from natural disasters, acts of God, and most importantly mugglings. That otter-box that got swept down the river because it wasn't secured- replaced for free (well depending on your deductible), that missing film canister (most likely muggled for its street value)- you will receive a check for its value in the mail no questions asked, and the threads on that special container that were stripped due to cacher mis- conduct- they will be repaired as long as the cost of the repair does not equal more than 75% of the value of the container. (edit for spelling I hate this keyboard) Third Times the charm
  9. Raider of the Lost cache, you should try my cache: Raiders of the Lost Cache: GC2HN2H
  10. mothballs will keep landowners away
  11. Mothballs, because no one will muggle them.
  12. I love finding caches anywhere, be it in a parking lot ect. Don't diss micky d's,I dont remember the last time I ate there put the food tastes good none the less. A series like this would be great, I'd probably eat at yummy mcdonalds and not expensive restraunts more often.
  13. Those white wavy lines are fake spider webs I bought at Halloween. I might take them down because they are strating to get a little dirty. Those are not wires, they are real live vines. The container is made out of plywood. I reenforced it with wooden struts on the inside. It is edged with a gold leaf plaster molding. It was found in the basement of an an old building. Thier are broom handles with brackets attatched to the sides to represent the sticks. The lid is painted old. I lined the inside with blue fabric. I also collected a bunch of large limestone rocks and painted them gold and placed them inside. In the picture below someone's dog is inside the cache.
  14. I put out a cache in a neat unexplored cave I found. It was themed around Indiana Jones and The Raiders Of The Lost Ark. The cave is pretty big. 25 feet deep and 5 feet wide and 25-30 feet long. We had to lower the cache in from the roof with a rope. There are a few ways in.

  16. Our new cache that has yet to be put out is "Raiders of the Lost Cache", or something like that, I have not come up with a good name. It is themed around Indiana Jones and the the Raiders of the Lost Ark. It is made to look similar to the Ark of the Covenant. It is made of some ply-wood, some really old crown molding we found in our basement, and some broom sticks. I need to decorate the lid. The real Ark has angels with spread wings on top and we are trying to figure out how to make those. Like in the movie, this will be hidden in a large cave. This cave is pretty much undiscovered so there won't be any chance of muggling. We have permission from the park. More pictures to come.
  17. Is there any way to purchase a travel bug through the Groundspeak store using paypal?
  18. Is there any way to buy a travel bug from the Groundspeak store using paypal? I'm trying to buy one but I can't find the option.
  19. One morning i found some lunchmeat in a cache. It was a long day.
  20. Back when I was in eighth grade (7 years ago) our class made mummified apples..... The process took forever we had to put the apples in extremely dry powder for 5 months. Before I mummified my apple, i carved a face into it and shoves erasers in the eyes. 5 months later It was completely mummified and very dry. I hope to make a travel bug out of it and have it travel to Egypt. But it will take alot of guts to transport or even pick up a mummified apple.
  21. it really isnt hard to free climb a 20 ft chain link fence....and hold there and sign the log.... ive done it before for a similar cache and it really wasnt all that hard or dangerous. But i suppose thats my opinion. If youve ever done bouldering this wouldnt really be hard to do.
