  1. Just downloaded GSAK, unfortunately it doesn't work with eTrex 20 yet. Not a problem actually. The thing I really want to do right now is get that cemetery list by distance. Thank you.
  2. Thank you! That is a big help! My only other problem is that I would like to be able to sort that for distance from my home. I have made a pocket query and loaded it to my receiver. So I can see it by distance on there, however I would like to be able to view it by distance on the computer so that I can most easily go through the list and look at details of each cache. It seems there is no way to sort/search by both distance and keyword on the site. I guess it's not a combination that many people would use. Seems the only way to really do it is to sit with my receiver and plug the GC code in to my computer one by one and take notes of the ones I want to try to hit some day. Thanks so much for your tip!
  3. I like cemetery caches. There is a great list of Wisconsin cemetery caches. Almost all of them have WSQ in the name. I would like to do a search using WSQ as the keyword and have it sort by distance from my home. When I use WSQ as the keyword I get no results. Is it possible for me to do this search? Is it possible to sort the list for distance from my home?
  4. My link PICTURES!! The above link (My link)goes to an album on photo bucket where I have put some screenshots of the eTrex 20. I was not able to take it out on the day that I took these pics. I hope the pics help to answer some of your questions.
  5. Unfortunately I am not really qualified to give a real review. I wasn't able to get outside with it today, trying to get caught up on some homework. I will try to get out with it tomorrow and hit a couple and see how it feels. My old unit is an eTrex Legend h. I do like the feel of the 20. The buttons felt better than the legend and I like that it made a noise with each button press. I also like the shape better. I can try to get some screen shots tonight. I am going to love going paperless with one unit! If I get out tomorrow I will take both units with me to compare.
  6. I got it going with EasyGPS. I don't know how I missed it the first time I looked through the list.
  7. Update again! I just went and picked it up at my local REI, I had not ordered it. Their site said they had them at that location. When I got there they were not in the case and I asked about them and the guy said they never got them in. At the register I asked her to check the next closest store. Low and behold, they did indeed have them at the one I was at but they were not unpacked yet from the truck. They went in back and got me one! Yay!! Now I just have to figure out how to get a pocket query to it because it doesn't seem that EasyGPS is ready for the 20.
  8. Update I was just looking around and saw that there was another retailer on amazon that claimed to have 8 of these at $199. I put in the order. Then I googled the company for reviews of the company. I found some pretty bad reviews saying that they lied about what they have in stock. I have since cancelled the order. The company is Mountain Gear. It's a real shame that someone would do business in this manner. A quick google search for a review for them has saved me another disappointment. I would hate for someone to fall for it.
  9. Just thought there might be others out there that would be interested in this info. I had an eTrex 20 on pre-order with Amazon. The release date had been through Sept 23 or 24. Late yesterday I got this email from amazon. Hello, We're writing about the order you placed on August 23 2011 (Order# xxx-xxx). Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the item(s) as soon as we expected and need to provide you with a new estimate of when the item(s) may be delivered: "Garmin 010-00970-10 eTrex 20, Worldwide" Estimated arrival date: October 24 2011 - December 14 2011 If you still want us to ship the delayed items when they do become available (though they may arrive later than expected) please visit this address to approve the delay: So I cancelled the order. If it gets to me as late as December I would no longer be able to use it this season. I will wait until next spring and see if I still feel the need for an upgrade. Perhaps the early bugs will be worked out by then anyhow. I'm pretty disappointed and if there was another brand that I felt as good about I would just get a different unit. I guess I can only hope that the delay is so they have time to make it perfect.
  10. I had pre-ordered an etrex 20 on amazon. Late yesterday I got an email from amazon saying that the release has been pushed back. The delivery date was changed to Oct 24- Dec 14. I cancelled the order. If it delivered that late I probably wouldn't even use it this season anymore. I will wait until spring and see if I still feel like I need the upgrade. I would imagine that the 10 and 30 will have similar dates. I'm pretty disappointed. I was really looking forward to getting out and using it now that my son is in school during the day.
  11. I hope they are out soon. I have pre-ordered a 20 and I can't wait to be able to get out and use it.
  12. I live north of you in Milwaukee. I am going to spend some time going through the lists of caches in nearby suburbs that I frequent for ones that I might be able to get in the winter. I hate to go all winter without finding any. I will probably go for ones in parking lots and park and rides.
  13. WooHoo!! That was it, thank you so very very much!! You have just made my day much better! Thank you!
  14. I am trying to load caches for our trip to the cottage today. I am trying to send to GPS from cache page, it sees the device and says that it was successfully written to device. However, they are not showing up on the device. What could have happend? This is not the first time I have done this, but it is certainly the first time that I am having problems finding my caches. It's just not working correctly. Any quick ideas as to what the problem is? I have restarted my computer and the receiver several times.
  15. Happy Thanksgiving all! We are about to head up to the cottage, it is 3 hours north of us. I have generated a query along the route and have come up with 147 caches, great results! However, Iwould like to pick through them and choose 10-20 to try to hit. It would be easiest to do this if I could view them in order of the route, starting at home and ending at the cottage. Is there any way for me to view these in order, they seem to be all over the place on the results? Thank you.
  16. I live in Milwaukee. We have many small suburbs that surround us. I would like to do PQ for many of these suburbs. If I do a PQ using the zip code and put within radius of 5 miles for example, do my results start at the center of the zip code and go in a 5 mile radius from the center? Or does it do the whole zip code and then a 5 mile radius out of the zip code boundry? If I want to include the whole zip code should I take 1/2 of the widest part of the zip code and use that for my "within radius"? TIA Janine
  17. Hello from Milwaukee. I don't think I have gotten into this thread yet. I started caching this summer, I think my first one was in June. I just spent the weekend in Madison, West side almost Middleton. I was able to hit 13 in one day which is far far more then I have done before. All of them were within about 1.5 miles of my hotel. It was a great caching weekend. I hear that West Bend has many of them. I will have to plan a full day there soon. Happy hunting.
  18. Sorry this isn't quite the right forum for this question but I am about to run out the door. Is there a way to see what chaches in my area are part of the 250,000 factory loaded caches? I am an impulse buyer and I may like to use it this weekend, but I don't know if I can get the update kit at my local REI right now. I have an eTrex Legend H, but I have given it to a friend to use for a week or so. I am thinking of letting her keep it and use the geomate jr instead. However, if feels kind of silly to make a down grade. I should add that I also always have my iPhone with me and have the geocaching app on it.
  19. As of October 25, 2009 it is not possible to get activation codes for these. The site to receive the codes is reporting an error in a file making in impossible to get codes for Cachekinz. Please address this. I also notice from another post that it hasn't been possible since at least 10/19/2009.
  20. Ugh, that bites. I just came here to see if there were any posts about this error message on coincodes because I just tried to activate. They should stop selling them until it is possible to activate them. Disappointing that the codes haven't been available for at least six days now. Certainly wouldn't have bought them if I knew I wouldn't be able to use them.
  21. REI has a Garmin hand held starting at $109. They also have a Magellan under $100 but that one got pretty bad reviews.
  22. I've run across that once. I basically left for 5 min and came back... just in case they were waiting on me to leave so they could find the cache. They weren't. I have no idea what they were doing. I am on a local moms forum and we said that we needed some way of knowing if someone at the park was a fellow member. I suggested that we use the hand jive as a signal but they wouldn't go for it, lol. Guess they didn't think sitting on a park bench doing the hand jive looked real sane or something like that.
  23. I am an instant gratification kind of girl, and while I have ordered many things on line, I prefer to be able to drive somewhere to pick things up and get it into my greedy little hands. Anyone know of any kind of stores that sell trackables? I am very close to an REI, but when I went for a receiver there, I didn't really see any other caching supplies. Am I going to have to order one online? There are some other outdoor stores around me as well. I am in Milwaukee, but will drive an hour to find a place. TIA Janine
  24. My eTrek H does not have a serial cable. Just the USB on one end and the smaller USB looking other end.
  25. Yup, good directions. It took me a few days of looking at the receiver for me to figure that out too. I also have the H. I have found that the easiest way to load multiple caches is to do it from the Garmin site. But I am very new to this.
