  1. I got mine too! Here's a picture for everyone that's looking for one. I can't wait to send it out!
  2. I have a few caches out there and a few travel bugs have appeared in them. I haven't ever found or moved a travel bug yet because I'm relatively new to geocaching. Is it poor Geo-Etiquette to retrieve travel bugs from my own cache and move them along? Thanks.
  3. What constitutes 'most'? I have a Magellan eXplorist 210. Will that work? If not, are there any free maps out there for Magellan units? Thanks!
  4. In short, I was wondering how you get the coordinates of an address. It seems like it would be possible with Google Maps or Google Earth, but I haven't quite found out how. I just need them to be relatively precise, and I can input them to my GPS easily. Thanks!
  5. Ok... that's good to know. And how would one request a PQ to arrive that day? Is it possible? I guess I really need to get more familiar with GSAK.
  6. I was wondering what seems to be the best cache containers. What works well? What doesn't? And where can I get some of the things that work well? Is there a designated store or place I can get some? I don't want to be limited to film canisters and tupperware... other kinds seem to hold up better and camouflage into their surroundings.
  7. I'm still quite new to geocaching, but decided to hit it hard over this summer and signed up for the Premium membership. You know, family vacations and all, and it might be fun to have along a GPS with caches along a route and other fun things. I also wanted to go paperless... anyways... I have a small suggestion. I noticed that you can download the .loc file for all the 20 or so caches that are displayed on one search page, or you can download each individual .loc or .gpx file from within the cache. And, with Pocket Queries, I guess they email you a file with all the .gpx files in it for your caches. But why can't you select all the boxes on the search page and download as .gpx right there? Or is that the complicated part of Pocket Queries? One more suggestion woudl be to have an option to display a varying number of caches on a page, like up to 100 or something, for both basic and premium members. Other than that, things are just fantastic here. I can't wait to get started!
  8. I have a Magellan eXplorist which I used to hike a mountain in my area recently, and I had it create a track log all along the way. I heard you can import these (or routes) into Google Earth, and I was wondering how to do it, if it was possible. Thanks!
  9. That's interesting... I was reading reviews of the Magellan eXplorist 400 from Amazon.com, and it says this there... "The extras here I like are the optional SD card for adding more detailed maps and most of all the NMEA output so you can use it with Microsoft steet and trips or any other preferred software." Just curious.
  10. I have Microsoft Streets and Trips on my laptop... is there any way to put maps from it onto a GPS unit? That would be exceedingly nice so I wouldn't have to spend $100 for map software for my laptop and for a GPS. If not, that's ok, I'm just wondering if anyone has figured out how to do it, or if it's possible. Thanks!
  11. Yeah, the Legend was in there a little bit ago, but I kind of liked the Geocaching software that Magellan has, and the extra memory. For just what they come with, nothing more, what do you think is best, the Legend or the 210? (I'm trying to round up as many opinions as possible.) Thanks a lot!
  12. I'm looking for the best GPS to go geocaching with, specifically using geocaching.com to do it. I don't necessarily need the extra mapping software, but the Lowrance one looked like a good deal for a unit, the software, and all the extras. I'll probably either buy the Lowrance one from REI with maps, or the 210 from Amazon without maps. They'd be nice to have, but I'm trying to spend as little as possible, because the uses would be mostly for geocaching and hiking, and not for driving. (Streets and Trips on my laptop with a GPS for that does the trick). Thanks for all that info. Any other advice?
  13. What features does this unit have? Would it work well for geocaching? It's available now for around $130 in the Outlet section I've noticed, but I can't find any reviews or detailed product specs about it anywhere.
  14. I can't seem to find any detailed specs about the Lowrance iFinder Pro Plus GPS, but I found one for crazy cheap. I can't find a website to compare this GPS with the Magellan eXplorist 210 I want to buy from Amazon, (as cheap as I've seen). Any advice, previous owner experience, or suggestions? Thanks a million! 15. I didn't buy my Palm TX for geocaching, I bought it mostly to keep track of my school and work stuff (and all other indoor activities.) Good point... I can't afford to have it broken. I'll probably use a really old Palm we have. Thanks for all the help!
  16. How do you do paperless caching? I have a Palm TX, would that work? What programs would I have to get (are there any free ones that work well?), and what is the information you put on it to go 'paperless'? Can you get it from geocaching.com? One more thing... I'm going to buy a Magellan eXplorist 210. How would I go about downloading the .loc files from geocaching.com onto it? Thanks!
  17. Hey, I'm trying to figure out the best way to search for caches near me. Do I just type in my zipcode? And what if I'm going on vacation, and want to hit caches there and along the way? Is there any easy way to do that? I'm very new to this, and I'm still in the process of actually purchasing a GPS. Also, do you have to actually visit a cache and see what's in it to see if there is a theme to it, or can you figure out the theme before you go find it so you know what to bring? When you find a cache, how do you log it on the website so it will add to your 'found' list? There may be more questions following this tremendous list. I'm incredibly new to this and I'm excited to get going. Thanks! Bugler921
  18. I'm looking to buy a GPS, and I'm pulled between the Garmin eTrex Legend and the Magellan eXplorist 210. What are the advantages over Garmin? Thanks! Bugler921
  19. Wow, all this help has been fantastic! I've done a whole bunch of research, I decided that the PC connectivity would be a good idea, and now I'm thinking about either the Magellan eXplorist 210 or the Garmin eTrex Legend. Amazon has some good prices (compared to other places I've seen). Any other recommendations or ideas? Thanks a million! Bugler921
  20. Hey, I'm pretty much totally new here. I've been geocaching with a few people I know and it's a blast. I figure it's time to get my own GPS and get out and have some fun. I need a GPS that isn't too expensive, but will serve its purpose (mostly for hiking around and geocaching). What is my best bet? I'd preferably like to find something under $150 or so. I don't know too much about GPS units, their features, and the pricing, so any help I could get would be absolutely great! Thanks! Bugler921
