  3. Do you have routeable street maps (e.g. City Navigator) loaded on your Colorado?

The basemap does not have routing information, so if you haven't loaded a routeable map you'll only get "crow" routing.

That is exactly what Garman said when I called their Tech support.

So, I have to purchase City Navigator NT and place it on my Colorado.

    Thanks one, Thanks all.

  4. I have a problem with the Colorado 300 that I did not have with my Garmin 76map.

    SITUATION:

I go to MapSource, Mark two locations, Create Route. I get a route with turn by turn, following the streets.

When I download to Garmin 76, the route is turn by torn, following the streets.

When I download to the Colorado 300, I get a line of sight, as the bird flys, route.

    QUESTION:

What am I doing wrong? Maybe a setting is set somewhere incorrect?

  5. I've often thought that GC should add more value to caches that require more than just lifting a lamp post cover. There should be a better way to rate caches. For those of us in the Southwest, I've found a better way. There is a site called DGP.com that takes all your caches and scores them based on difficulty. If you go to the site and click on ABOUT, it will explain everything.

DGP.com takes me to a NON-GPS related commercial site.

Perhaps the poster should research and re-post this information.

  6. The main thing I would worry about are the flash-in-the-pan types that get excited about geocaching but three months later they are off doing "the next big thing" that they are excited about. Six months later, they've forgotten all about it and meanwhile the rest of us suffer for their negligence.

I have seen this many times. The Admin. gets real excited and over react then a few months later, seem to forget about the issue.

This is the primary reason for so many 'blue laws' in this country. My favorite is: "You are not permitted to wear cowboy boots unless you already own at least two cows." ( Blythe, CA )

  7. the words "Bunny Busters" into spanish (or something that means the equivalent of that)?

Perhaps - Could you tell me ( In English ) what you think it means. (In particular ) any 'slang' meanings.

Because if you mean what I recall it to mean. Then try "arrebato de virgen" or eliminador de virgin"

  8. What I do - Is when I find a cache, I take the GC1234 number and change the First 'G' into an 'F' ( Found ) .

After I log the find, I sometimes delete the found 'FC1234' type entries

Also, I have learned through bitter experience, to make a 'MOB' entry when I leave the car.

  9. Without giving too much away, the location I'd like people to visit is somewhere that people would ordinarily just zip right by without a second thought but acutally has some very interesting scientific significance. I figured I'd include in my cache a little background about the spot and, as stated above, directions and/or coordinates to the actual spot of interest.

Sounds like an excellent location for an EarthCache. Look at: http://www.geosociety.org/earthcache/

  10. I just started looking for caches here in my area the other day and still havent found any. I'd like to meet up with some locals so I can go out and see how its done and learn a bit. Is anyone interested? I am in Chula Vista. Zip is 91913.

I also have a few questions:

    1. When you send the caches to your GPS what name to you give them? The actual or the one the site gives it? The GCXXX name ect. I have an app for my mac called geocaching menu that will take them right off the site and send them to the unit. It will let me select any of the names.

    2. Does anyone recommend a good app for the Mac? I have a Garmin Legend CX and use it with GuestPC and some PC apps now as well as with the above mentioned Mac app.

    3. Any other advice welcome

    1) Welcome to the sport

    2) I work nights and generally cache in the morning - If this is OK with you, we can go sometime this week.

    3) Email me privately for phone numbers etc.

  11. As an owner of one of a Homer cache, I speak.

    1) There is nothing commercial in my listing of my cache.

    2) I used the HD location to exploit a different kind of camo.

    3) Is no where related to HD except for name.

    4) If I get a nasty gram from GeoGOD, my Homer will remain, I will just change the name.

  12. I would not put in the note that finds will be deleted once a cacher gets over 100 finds.

Maybe what I should do is change the note to read, you will not get credit for this cache is you already have 20/50/100 finds.

I agree, once found and logged, the finder should get credit, for all time, for the find.

  13. I have thought reciently, that it would be nice to have a class of cache for NOVICES only.

Suggest the name start with 'NOVICE' ie: 'NOVICE - Under the mail box'

Suggest that it be limited to D1/T1 types.

Suggest it be limited to those with less than 20/50/100 finds.

Suggest the HINTS be in the open.

Suggest the cache description, indicate that if you want a bit more challenge go to the adjacent cache 'GC12345' and post the coords to the next nearest cache.

An example is Novice - Garlic Cache

    Something like that.

What say you one, What say you all?
