  1. The Houston Geocaching Society is hosting a baby shower for our resident TB/crazy/all-around-great-guy.... Snoogans and his lovely bride Snoogstress. I don't know how to hyperlink so here is the location.. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e4-d4a2904e6ba4 It is GC16X0H. Please join us in celebrating the impending arrival of Connor. He will be much loved and coddled throughout the lands. If you have any questions, please email me. Thanks Diane aka gsguru8306
  2. I am scheduled to be there Friday evening. I am taking most of the day off and heading up. Just let me know whatcha need and I'll help.
  3. OK, here's my way that I PLAY MY game. I generally cache alone and, depending on my mood, will do the woodsy, bushwaching ones early in the day. If I am itching to get outside but not too thrilled to be covered in leaves and bug spray, then I concentrate on PNG's or easy-to-finds. If I don't have kids and am not going on a weekender trip, then I generally will cache. On the weekends that I DO have the kids, then I will limit my caching... (sometimes, with two teenagers, ya just gotta get outta da house!! ) I log ALL of my DNF's. That way, I can come back to it or keep an eye on it. I love travel bugs. I have 8 of my own and will be concentrating on getting a whole lot more before GW4. Having read Snoogans thread on the TB forum about the way they are going to be handled intrigued me and now I want to get 100's of my own to send out into the world. I have lots of ideas on hiding caches. I have only hid two. One day, I want to become more if a hider. Events, wow, I have only been to three and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I feel like they are another extension of my family. I even meet scouters who share my love of scouting and caching. What could be more perfect??? Puzzles, not really into them. I don't want to take the time to do them. But, I am going to try to get my 16YO son to "help" me and hopefully he will get a bit excited about going to find the cache after the work he puts into the puzzles. We'll see. That's it for now. gsguru
  4. Want to invite you to a get-together this weekend. Weekend update..... Here is some info for this Saturday-> As their has been no suggestions for a different park, we'll be doing this at Bane Park, link here http://www.hcp4.net/parks/bane/index.htm. Unfortunately there is a rule against alcoholic beverages as this is a family oriented park(sorry tx secsy). Doesn't mean they won't know the difference if your careful but there will likely be posted signs just so you know ahead of time. As wild as 5SH is, I don't think I'll need any alcohol to have a good time(some of you may know what I mean). This park has a pavilion, picnic tables and a pit, if anyone wants to bring some hot dogs for themselves. We however don't have to pay anything at this park, and make no reservations, versus Spring Creek Park where we could have alcohol if we pay 125 bucks and make reservations. It is also quite a bit further out. Anyway as far as times go 5SH and I talked about starting around 2PM and going until whenever. There is a good chance this will go all the way to dark and may spawn some night caching, who knows. So as far as flexibility goes, people can come anytime from 2 till sunset. Hit it after the game, or before Renfest, or whatever works best for you individually. I plan to be around as long as there are cachers around to hang out with. 5SH undoubtedly has tricks up his sleeve, as others may, for this event. There is no required reading however and no massive planning on this one so mostly it will be what everyone is looking for, a get together and chat event. Please let me know if anybody needs anymore details or if I have left anything out. Hope to see you there. Everyone that can, please come out and have a no frills get together and meet some legends, some not so legendary, and definitely those who are legends in their own mind!!!!!! Let me or RedEyeRebels know if you plan on hangin' out with the coolest group of cachers in the state! gsguru
  5. WOW, it's been a while since I bought mine, didn't know they were this expensive.... gsguru
  6. Woohoo. Made my reservation today. I am SOOOOO excited. Not sure if the kids will come (they ARE teenagers.... ) but I will definately be there. Trying to get more people to come with me.... I hate to set up my camp for ONLY one person... Snoog, if you need any help with anything, let me know. I am more than willing to do any legwork you need done. gsguru
  7. Everyone has great ideas, keep em coming. Our Service Unit last night was great, the reception to the idea went over well. Hopefully, this will be an event that will get a few more people into caching. Thanks again gsguru
  8. Good afternoon, As many of you already know, I bleed GS green... I am organizing an Older Girl event within our Service Unit that pertains to geocaching, map reading and compass reading. This is probably going to be an overnight event at one of the local (Willis, Tx) camps and is geared towards girls ages 11 and up. Now, to my need for help... I need input from the geocaching community as to the easiest and funnest way to present this. Look forward to your suggestions. gsguru
  9. OK, I DNF'd a cache (probably missing) and was wondering if anyone who uses personal TB's log there visit? I (and my TB) visited the site, looked and looked, I logged a DNF but didn't log my personal TB. Was wondering what others with personal TB's do in this case. Thanks for your input. gsguru8306
  10. As you have probably already heard, Houston Astrodome will be the "new home" for 30-50,000 people being evacuated from New Orleans Superdome and other shelters. Any and all supplies are needed. As a Girl Scout Leader, we are starting a collection of the usual items needed and will transport to our local Girl Scout Council. In addition to the usual collections, we have a girl scout who is personally affected by this. Many organizations are needing your help. Please, let's show our Texas Pride and Hospitality and help. Thanks so much. My heart goes out to the thousands of people affected by this tragedy. They are looking toward a long time of heartache and sorrow while they recover. Let's help. Thanks again gsguru
  11. I own 8 bugs. One of them is my personal TB that is logged in and out of everything I do. I currently have 4 in my possession that I picked up at an event this weekend. I will drop those this week sometime. gsguru
  12. OK, going to add my 2 cents worth.. After packing and moving over the last 3 weeks and unable to cache, I am FINALLY going to an event this Saturday and cache on Sunday. I am so excited I can hardly wait. I have 12 different caches I want to attempt, reach for the sky baybee.. gsguru
  13. Kudos to you. Congratulations on your first find. That's is where the fun begins....then becomes an obsession for some of us... Enjoy the time outdoors with loved ones. Nothing is better. gsguru
  14. Congratulations.... we don't often hear about the TB's that have completed (or even achieved) their journey. gsguru
  15. Jumping on the band wagon. Congratulations on your first day. This is a fabulous sport, hobby, obsession. Just be sure to hang on for the ride..... life as you know it will never be the same. heehee
  16. Searching past posts pays off. I tried to use my Sportrak this morning and received the EXACT same message. I don't have MapSend or anything like that so I went online and requested a tech to contact me to correct the problem.... I am still waiting. I have (or HAD) a big caching trip planned this weekend that I am afraid I am going to have to cancel.. So, if anyone has any other ideas or updated suggestions...PLEASE post. Thanks in advance gsguru
  17. OK, I have an activated travel bug that I am going to use as my personal travel bug (thanks WH ) and I tried to put it in the first cache I found. It is NOW showing as unknown location. When I try to find it (in my bug list of unreleased but activated bugs) I can't find it. What did I do and how do I fix this.... As always, thanks in advance. I know the great cachers out there are going to guide me in the right direction. gsguru
  18. Not sure if this qualifies, but my ex introduced me to caching so we could traipse around the woods together. After a year, he's gone and I'm still doing it. I tell everyone I know about it but, so far, no one is silly enough to go with me.. Oh well. heehee gsguru
  19. What about archived or temporarily archived caches? Will it still work? and what date to I put on the note? The date I found the cache or today's date? TIA
  20. Thanks WH. Actually it was one of YOUR postings that gave me the incentive to start one of my own...
  21. I would like to start my own personal TB to see how far I go with my adventures. Is there a way to log my TB in previous caches that I have done? I am up to 81 now and have done a couple of major-minor trips in the last month. Any input is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance for your help. gsguru
  22. You can meet at a local buffet (i.e. Golden Corral, Ryan's). Doesn't have to involve alcohol.
  23. Thanks so much for all of the information. I will retrieve the cache tomorrow and place it in another location and keep an eye out for the site to be open again (cache-wise). I see this as a tremendous learning experience and will be more careful in the future.
