  1. Just wanted to mention that I got this to work in vi/vim. If you have no idea what that or even what unix is just ignore this and continue to use something like notepad+ as suggested above. # vim FieldNotes.txt :set fileencoding=UCS-2LE :set fileencoding (To make sure it shows as UCS-2LE not utf-8, etc) i (To begin insert mode.) <GC code>,<date year-month-day>T<time>Z,<log type>,"<message>" esc (To exit insert mode.) :wq (Save and quit.) Go to http://www.geocaching.com/my/uploadfieldnotes.aspx Select your file and upload. Now that I've read the rest of the thread I see that ascii files are accepted now, but strangely when I didn't have my encoding correct the site didn't accept the upload.
  2. We always have a camera with us at every cache we visit. Usually just our cell phones, but anytime we're travelling we've got the real camera. I'd say about 75% of the cache sites we visit end up with pictures taken (yes even those lampskirts are occasionally picture worthy!), but I'm not so good at remembering to upload them. Right now I'm about 3 months behind on uploads, but I'll get there someday!
  3. No I don't think you should be able to log your own cache. At the same time I don't feel you should log your own event either for the same reason as GOF and Bacall gave for logging your own cache. If you are hosting an event it is already assumed that you are attending and you got credit for your attendance on your Geocaches Owned list I have hosted an event that I didn't get to attend. The person who host our monthly breakfast hasn't attended several of his events. Your assumption that you attend you own events is false. That is why I "attend" my own events. Same here, I've hosted events and not attended. I also wish that we could DNF events. I happens. I almost DNFed the first event we attended. Upstairs in the basement is kinda confusing unless you bravely forge ahead.
  4. It's not worded very well, since "this geocache" is location specific, but the challenge guidelines do appear to frown upon challenges that require people to "find this geocache" or "find a geocache." In any case, the challenge described above would appear to violate the "location-specific" guideline for non-global challenges. You are talking about "Challenges". The OP is talking about "challenge caches". Two different things entirely.
  5. Dude. This would be so sweet. Please complete this. Please. You would be my forever hero. Also if you need a cache to find for 1337 and you're in Nebraska...please... http://coord.info/GC300C3 We would be honored!

  7. I would have done 367, a leap year +1, that was my goal, but stuff happens, congrats on the year, not an easy thing to do. But it wasn't a leap year! We would have had to have kept going for like 2 full years or something and there weren't enough nearby caches for that. It was a stop now on this cool number thing or have a weird obsession to never quit thing. We skipped one day and then the second day we went and 'found' some caches I hadn't found yet that he had.
  8. At 365 days, because we wanted to stop.
  9. Wow. That's something you can't do, and it doesn't even matter the reason why someone logs late. In our case most of our caching is done in spurts on trips away from home. We'll find the caches, upload the field notes and try to log a note dropping off any trackables moved, but the real found-it logs lag a bit behind. Why? We like to write descriptive nice logs. I can log a few of those a night sometimes, but I don't want to rush them. I hate TFTC and want to write something different and meaningful for each, which can take a bit of time. I apologize that my logging habits aren't your cup of tea, but that's why we have many flavors of ice cream to choose from here! Just checked my field notes...oops I've got 15 to log. From September 10th, 15th and 21st. I'll get to it!

  11. He contacted us when we mentioned that this smelled of an ALR on another of his caches, in reply he sent us a two page all caps e-mail, expressing his feelings that there is only one true ftf and we are tainting the game when we share ftf's. Then this cache again with the same paragraph was published. Another cacher posted on this cache (that note has been deleted) that he thought it was an ALR and the CO should lighten up. So yes the CO knows how people feel about it and he just doesn't give a darn. I think imo the reviewer feels that he can have that statement on there, but he's not going to be able to enforce it. I on the other hand don't think that statement should even be allowed on there whether it's enforced or not. I definitely feel the "get off my lawn" sentiment around this CO. Would love to have an ignore all by cacher feature at this point. We didn't even know it was his cache until we thought about going for FTF on it and then decided we didn't want the hassle. It bothers me that I have to worry about who owns a cache before running out the door on a first to find and if our log is just going to be deleted and we waste the trip out there.
  12. Here's a cache that was recently published. http://coord.info/GC343QA This is the third cache the CO has published with the 'ftf logging requirement'. 1)I understand completely that FTF's/Co-FTF's/50thTF's/etc. are completely a side game and anyone can play it how they like and it doesn't matter. Claim what you want/don't claim, it doesn't bother me. 2)Is this an ALR? Yes I understand I can ignore it, but the entire reason I'm asking is twice now this CO has made his cache page into a discussion forum, the one I link to even had a note from an out of area cacher saying how he didn't think think the above paragraph was kosher (the note has been deleted), and the CO has sent us a 2 page e-mail (in all caps) about how we can and can't play the game. He thinks there is 'only one true FTF' and it taints the game to have Co-FTF's. The issue at hand is...can the CO actually delete peoples logs based on FTF/Co-FTF claims?
  13. Hint is not okay if you encrypt/decrypt repeatedly. Stage One - Bowl of Tree&nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;yg;br&nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;nzc;amp;tg;Final - Stickoflage. Mind the Gorse. Yes I have clicky fingers.
  14. Please don't do this. Only submit it for review after the cache is in place.
  15. Surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but if saw a log in a stage of a multi-cache, I personally would probably get a little confused and think I'd finished it. Sign the "log" and call it a find at stage one and never find the rest...
  16. Yup, I like this too. Also seems to be a good compromise, very visible on the Challenge number, but separate.
  17. I found a parking lot today and not only did it not have a lampskirt lifter in it (out of the multitude of choices) there was no other cache blocking the placement of one! This thread is tempting me to go hide one there tomorrow... It might be a better location for a challenge though.
  18. Question: Will you do Challenges? Probably at some point, I kinda like the ones we have nearby, very reminiscent of virtuals. So if I see one that appeals to me, I'll do it, just like any other cache that looks interesting. If it's one of those locationless "post a photo of a fuzzy animal" type things I'll flag it and not touch it. Before we do any Challenges though I'd really like to know how they work with milestones. Do they add to my total and change where my milestones are or not? It's a little confusing to me since it says total, but also separates it out.
  19. I agree, thanks for listening to your users on at least one aspect of the recent changes.
  20. I dislike every single change to cache pages. Yes I already voted on the active feedback thread. Ick. Seriously ick.
  21. One of my favorite movies for a long time. Watched it like 15 times growing up. No idea why.
  22. Not sure why you can't just do both. To answer the question though, I'd personally sort it by favorite points and start picking out some of the top rated caches. I'd also go for ones in nice parks, not suburban/urban micros.
  23. I just realized that we made one of those l33t caches... http://coord.info/GC300C3 ...and yes it is elitist to the extreme.
  24. We geocache on all our road trips, getting every county along the way, plus any extra awesome looking caches. To do this I usually make a bookmark list of the route I want to take and we run a pocket query of it and load it onto our iPhone. Sometimes I keep track of what we're finding on a paper list to make sure we get all the counties, but mostly I forget to do that and just wait and see when we log it, if I missed any or not.
