  1. Friend of my parents sent them this: Would you continue looking for the cache?
  2. Since the OP decided to omit his initial statements and new thread readers have to scroll down to read these comments in other responders' quoted comments, I think this thread should just be locked. But hey, that's my opinion.
  3. How about accomplishing this in C:Geo? Mrs. Fingers has this app on her phone even though I use a GPS. It helps with finding caches local to the area we are in. And is much more portable than a laptop.
  4. I haven't even attempted to find out what they were. But, now I want to investigate further and possibly try one or two! Thanks Got_4by4!
  5. Law & Order: CI "The Unblinking Eye" I even found a forum discussing it where Jeremy chimes in on it. I saw the episode before reading the forum much later on. I knew I had a half working Garmin GPS+ IV and took it for a spin and found my first cache a week later when I figured out how to follow the drunken arrow.
  6. My Garmin has a feature to update or refresh the coords when you are trying to save a waypoint. I usually click on it three to five times depending on how jumpy the reception is. By doing this most of my hides get kudos for spot on coords. I use a Garmin iQue 3600 running Cachemate.
  7. The same has happened in my area. There is a long established cache placed in the welcome center of this town and recently another state agency sponsored cache was placed 157 feet away with no physical boundaries and literally across the street from each other. I refer to: Some fun in Dahlonega and Dahlonega Gold Museum I just accepted it as possibly an intentional "guideline" call since one is a 4 year old cache with near 400 finds and the other is a state historic site giving more visibility to the sight and to geocaching. Bottom line: It doesn't bother me all that much, but it is still there for people to nit pick about.
  8. Just to touch on a part of the original post. If a person is the cache owner with their geonick on a cache page and that cache is needing maintenance, then their geonick is viewable by all (or at least PMs if it is such,) and as such email to them is NOT unsolicited. If they do not want to receive electronic correspondence regarding THEIR caches then they may want to adopt them out to a cacher with a little more time to maintain them. Just my 2 cents.
  9. There is one in our area that is fun challenge in more ways than one. It is on the second level and this can only be determined by being there and comparing the view to the picture included with the cache page. The building is made of reinforced concrete and steel but you can still get sats when standing next to the side walls since it is open air. The best part is that the first level is predominantly occupied by the Sheriff's Court Services vehicles and reserved spots for transport and Deputies attending court as witnesses. Plus the US Marshal Service has spaces reserved for them on the first level also because the District Federal Building is across the street. For some cachers this may seem like too much LE action to be skulking around a dark parking garage sticking your hand in unusual places. But, there always are Sundays where it becomes a challenge for your geo-instinct and way to hone your geo-skills.
  10. Oh well. I guess this will just roll off the page quick, as it was meant for the ppl that AREN'T familiar with non-US Earthcaches.
  11. Door To Hell Unfortunately the video link at Yahoo! was broken, but you can find more videos if you Google "Door To Hell" or "Derweze." Unfortunately it is WAAAAY out of the way for me, but I know there are some that read these forums that get around.
  12. Remember to be like Sheen: Whatever you do, you are WINNING
  13. After the latest site maintenance I have found that I can't log a using the Google Chrome browser. I had to go to my Internet Explorer to log my latest two from yesterday. Are there any other issues with other browsers like Safari or Firefox? Does anyone know if there are any fixes on the way? Also, my Greasemonkeys and GC Tidy aren't working in Chrome anymore.
  14. From experience as a CO you will get those that do what I call "Caching by the seat of your pants" where they go out with just the coordinates and get to the location to find that other necessary information was needed. Don't be surprised if you get comments like "Why was it locked?"
  15. I think the 528 foot area is reserved for you until someone else tries to publish a cache within that area and the reviewer has to notify the person(s) that have not enabled but have a cache interest in the same area. I had one that I had finished the page and had the location entered. I was researching the property owner for almost a month and was notified that another person wanted to enable a cache that was within the area of mine. He asked if I was going to enable the cache soon or could the other person go ahead and enable, it was my choice. Luckily I was within a day of getting placement permission and had to claim the area. The reviewer notified the other person and he happened to be a friend and we found a better location nearby for the first stage of his multi. Basically, the answer is it yours until someone else is interested and then you have a limited time to place and enable.
  16. It took me about 10 minutes after I found the correct program that would print it in grid form for me. This is an excellent beginners puzzle cache and also an excellent intro to Sudoku. I have a ten part series in north Georgia that is a Sudoku challenge. I wish I would have thought about this type using 0 through 8 instead of the regular 1 through 9. It would have made some of the placements a LOT easier. But, it is almost through now, my puzzles have been chosen, and the final has been placed. All I can say is that the hint is in the narrative and look for numbers similar to the given coordinates.

  20. I have one in front a local package store that has some impressive landscaping and is plain view of a nearby major highway that feeds into and out of Atlanta. When myself and the other handful of Fingers (pun intended) were returning from a Sunday shopping run I saw a min van and what appeared to be a family milling around the cache location. I pulled up and stuck my head out and asked "Do you know what you are looking for?" the dad stuttered some and I admitted that I was cache owner and gave them an extra hint on the location. One of the kids found it and we had a short conversation about some of the other caches in the area since they were from southern Georgia and there are limited wi-fi hot spots in the area. (Yes, we are one of the few areas that does not have a Starbucks on every corner.)
  21. A note I left on one of my stolen caches. "Well, someone liked my Waffle House water bottle more than they like geocaching. I found a smoke colored water bottle with the Waffle House logo on it and thought that it was perfect for what else? A W.H. cache. I placed it and not a week later some jack wagon (edited for content) stole the bottle, BUT left the log. Ain't that sweet?"
  22. I am working on a series based on the many towers of Tolkien's Middle Earth. The first two of course will be the Two Towers: Barad-Dur and Orthanc. They will all be associated with cell phone and communication towers. If you ask "What other towers are there?" I will point out White Tower of Ecthelion within Minas Tirith, Minas Ithil later to become Minas Morgul, Cirith Ungol, The Hornburg, and Deeping Tower. Narchost and Carchost defend the entrance to Mordor. I have a lot of typing to do.
  23. Place a special cache to honor his birthday and let him be First To Find while a birthday present is waiting inside. THEN publish it as real geocache as a tribute to your love. Mushy but special
