  1. I work in Medina and live in Smithville... we only have one vehicle so the wife and kids bring me to work and back (im a truck driver and only go once a week...lol anyways on the way home they discovered the park and we've watched the videos... they want to sneak in to wander around!! Sean
  2. have it come up & set it to where you have to watch it to log your first find? I'm sure it can be done somehow....
  3. is there a way to make it a requirement to view a short video on logging trackables and what they are before someone could log their first find? I see so many stories about missing items and I've seen one of the few I've picked up... Someone logged in the cache that they grabbed it but never on the TB page... I sent a nice email reminding them to not forget & got a grumpy... I did it already... One back... They put it in the cache log bur neve entered the track code... Maybe some people just aren't sure what or how to do it?????? ( I am by no means perfect... I just returned a coin that I had for a Long long time... With great apologies) just a thought, Sean
  4. welcome! I just got my 50th I think... I need to log it... I'm using a palm pre to geocache with & we actually stopped for a while cause the app was horribble... They did alot of updates in 2 years I was gone! almost time for a new phone... Somekind of a droid I'm sure... But I'd like to get a GPSr too well good luck finding many caches! sean
  5. I'm sure you have an idea of kids swag to bring by now but some of my kids favorites are sillybands, fancy pencils, decorative erasers, "pretty rings" , hot wheels... McDonalds toys we also have bigger items such as build kits from Lowes, jean locking diaries, stamp kits, sticker sets, keychains.... kids love it! also another idea to keep in Mind... It feels GREAT to yell out you found it! .... But remember it's even better when they yell it out! So little clues to help them find stuff... Like telling them... You look at that tree stump I'll look in the bush... (when you know it's in the stump)... My kids (8 & 9 ) usually find it before I do anyhow now! Lol happy caching! sean
  6. I'm of no help... Just wondering Chippewa Lake?
  7. did you want 100 smilies or an arrangement such as 1 :-) :-) if that even works lol
  8. any new info out? I'm looking to buy my 1st GPSr and seriously thinking of the 550. screen? chipset? accuracy? sean
  9. once I buy the GPSr and have a computer.... what else will I need? I would like to do paperless caching (once I have a unit I'm going to become a premium member) I would also like to place track logs onto the computer overlaying maps (so the kids can see where we've been) I also see a number of different programs on here and wonder what's the best one to use? cost ? and where to get them? thanks sean
  10. well its kinda cool that the pictures are tagged with the coordinates... I probably will get the 550 and not the t.... the pic feature will be nice and I can leave my Cannon 30D at home... also the bicycle features look pretty cool with the cadence/speed and the heart rate monitor... sold seperately of course....
  11. I was reading the post and was excited to tell you it was on sale at Dicks .... but you found it so that's great! hope you like you're new GPSr! and it leads you to many finds! how do you like it so far? does it find the satelites quickly? sean

  13. I am looking to purchase my first GPSr. I am really interested in getting the Oregon 550. (its release is scheduled for July 24th) from what I've read it has more memory, brighter screen, and a "faster chip?" oh and the built in 3.2mp digital camera I was wondering if anyone has read or seen anything on this? or can look at the name of the chip and is it different/better/worse then the 400's? also should I look at the 550 or 550t? if Garmin is updating their topos to 24k would I be better to save the $100 and buy the 24k topos when they are released? is the freeware (ive never used freeware before) safe and good quality? or is it you get what you pay for? I will try to find the info on the 550 again and post. I tried to search this forum but it said error.... thanks for your help and sharing your info and opinions sean
  14. we are really new to this too. we found our first cache on 6-26. sor far we have found 7. my wife has gotten a hardbound journal that sh is writting down some information about each cach and what we traded for and who found it.... we have our 6 & 7 year olds with us too. she's also leaving room for pictures we have taken and maybe items we have collected. kinda like a geoscrapbook I guess. we are also going to try to pick up a large map of the US so we can track any TB's or Geocoins we find or let loose...thinking of using different colored thread and pins to mark each spot. sean
  15. from what I have been reading the oregon 550t is supposed to have a brighter screen, more accurate chip (although I have heard that if you do the updates on the older model it greatly improves accuracy) more memory and a 3.1 mp digital camera.... but from what I've seen it doesn't come out tull mid July. I haven't read anything on the "Dakota" yet..... off to research because as of now we are GPSrless geocaching..... sean
  16. sorry for above! my cell said it wasn't connecting but apperantly it did! anyways the one cache we found had the plastic parts for a push up popsicle in it and other "trash" is it ok for us to remove these items? or if we remove should we trade ... up for them? also we like the CITO program. its something we try to practice anyways.... sean & family
  17. Sheesh! But let me welcome you to geocaching. It's a lotta fun...and even cemeteries can be interesting if you really look around instead of just logging the cache and darting off to the next one. Most "good" caches have a story to tell. Let the adventures begin[][][] thanks for the replies and the warm welcome and the "im not sure what that was all about" mini rant! I won't be discouraged! I wanted to buy a GPS for hunting... so doing research on GPSr's I stumbled upon this website looking at reviews.... anyways I thought it would be fun to try. my wife wanted nothing to do with it.... I dragged her to a local small cemetary and we actually left and came back to look again.... she ended up finding it and now we are hooked! we are still GPSrless. (i think were going to wait till the Oregon 550t comes out and see how that is... supposed to have a brighter screen, faster more accurate chip, larger memmory!) we found a couple of caches with toys in them and the kids had toys to trade so they loved it! we went to borders today and bought some "swag" for the adults... like a survival book, nice bookmarks, a couple of nece journals.... if we find a cache with trash can we use our discretion and remove the junk or should you always trade for it?
  18. on the posts and in the logs I am seeing al the different abbreviations... I went to the getting started links and all the links are bad!! anyone have a list for what most of these stand for? Thanks, Sean
  19. Kinda little off the topic but I have been looking at getting an Oregon 550t... it comes out in July and says ... "new brighter screen" and higher sensitivity reciever and a built in Camera.... any opinions? I would probably stick with the delemore or a garmin... they bot have pretty good ratings from alot of people... there is alot of free stuff available for the garmins as far as maps.. etc Sean
