  1. Just off to bed - will check back tomorrow. Thanks!
  2. This has probably been asked before but I couldn't find it.... One of my TBs has been logged as being picked up from a cache BEFORE the person who put it there was able to log the drop. It has therefore missed out a complete stage in it's journey. Can this be added now (by me or anyone?) retrospectively, or has that stage simply been lost from it's history just because a cacher was either a bit slow, or a bit quick - depending on how you view things?!
  3. Thanks strumble I think I'll have a look at CityNavigator then. Are you able to update this, or does it too go out of date when new roads are built etc?
  4. I have all my maps enabled all the time - I say 'all', but it's only three in fact. That base maps that came pre-loaded, some free maps I got from t'internet and Garmin's Discovery GB maps. Is that OK, or should I only have one mapset enabled at a time?
  5. Yes, there are four or five caches near where I will be. That was my intention - to take them with me and give them some more miles!
  6. That's a good idea - thanks!
  7. Hi there! I picked up my first two trackables today. I was wondering what the etiquette is regards moving them on? I am off on holiday (somewhere quite remote) in May. Is it acceptable to keep them until then, or should I move them on locally a bit sooner? Sorry if this is covered elsewhere? Cheers!
  8. Are you sure you weren't at Fratton Park?!! Nice pics btw. My favourite so far is the first one - I'm fascinated by the Severn Bore! Hope to add some of my own soon - when I get the hang of all this!
  9. Good advice Splashy - thanks, I think... (Going by your name, I guess you learned the hard way?!! Lol) Please remember I'm very new to all this stuff. I've searched through the manual but it's not the best written document ever as far as I can tell. Do I have to go to profiles and select 'automotive' or is it sufficient just to select 'Go To' and tick the 'Recalculate On Road' option? Also, do I have to select 'Car/Motorcycle' even if in Automotive mode? Doesn't selecting that mode already tell the GPS I'm in a car and not walking? Daft questions probably, and hopefully soon I will understand why?!
  10. It's set for car/motorcycle. Isn't there another setting for walking/automotive that I have to do first though? I can't find it right now, but if it's set for walking will that override the car/motorcycle setting above?
  11. I don't think so.... It came with just base maps and I loaded Garmin GB Discoverer maps for my part of the UK. These come with street level maps of the whole of the UK I understand.
  12. I am slowly learning how to use my GPS.... Only had it a year now! I was using it in the car today and it tried to take me the wrong way along a one way street, then down a pedestrian only road! It is probably just a setting I've not found yet, but should it be doing this? Is it because it's not really designed for use in a car? I hope the answer is obvious and easy to correct! Thank you.
  13. I have the Oregon 300 with Garmin's OS maps, 1:50 for the country and 1:25 for my local area. I don't have experience of anything else I'm afraid, so can't compare, but they seem pretty good to me! Only think is, it gets quite fuzzy if you zoom in close - although this could be something I'm doing wrong? I read somewhere about downloading updated firmware? One question - When you have more that one type of mapping installed, do you select them both in the GPS preferences or just the best one or one you want to use?
  14. On a similar subject, how to convert lat/long to grid reference to co-ordinates (old money & decimal) would be useful for this noob!
  15. I am now! I was working last night, so couldn't have made it anyway - thanks for looking it up for me though! I'm registered on the local forum now, so should get to hear what's going on directly - so long as I remember to log in!!
  16. Hi there! I've struggled with my GPS for some months now, but last week actually made some progress and found six out of my first seven attempted caches! Unfortunately, the one I missed was the biggy bonus at the end of a series of traditionals.... Whilst I like the solitude of going out alone, I think it would be good to meet up with fellow geocachers to share stories and tips etc - I know there is so much about my Garmin that I just don't understand! I'm in N Norfolk. J.
