  1. Thank you to everyone who has taken an interest and replied to my original post. I will try all of the ideas, solutions, offered in due course. Sadly I will not be able to respond or reply to any further posts for about 10/12 days. "She-Who-Must-Go-Shopping" (My Wife) has developed a third sarcoma and will be hospitalised in Paris for a serious operation. Because my Wife is heavily disabled and I am what is termed the "Tierce Personne" I have to accompany her to see to her every need. We should return home soon and of course I will then respond and thank all of you at that time... Captain Spherical.
  2. Thank you shutle64. I will try your advice and see what happens.. I'm busy in the shop for a few days (French holiday period) so will post with a further update in a few days... Thanks to all of you who replied - I appreciate your advice.. Captain Spherical.
  3. Thank you Red90. The following are the setting as of now:- Map Set up (General) "Lock on Road" = Off Routing (Guidance Method) "Follow Road" = On "Road Method" = Faster Time "Next Turn Pop-Up" =On These setting have been used by me since day one ! I have of course tried variations of the above whilst using my bike, in a car and once on a bus (using the bus route - pre entered into the 60CSX) All to no avail - The unit freezes after the turn has been made, and does not resume in any fashion whatsoever - until I recalculate - then the same thing will happen after the next turn. I have no problem at all if I select "Follow Road" =Off - but by then I am not on a road anyway !!! Hair-loss and stress related alchohol consumption situation arising.... Captain Spherical.
  4. Thank you Webscouter, I understand your response, but I have selected "Lock on Road" because I am on a road... For each cache that I look for here in France, it is necessary for me to first travel on a public highway (Road) then when in the vicinity of the cache, I switch the GPSr to "Off Road" recalculate and then continue either Off Road or in the forest or whatever is not considered a road to reach the cache area. The problem is, my 60CSX does not calculate anything after the point reached for the next turn - whilst I am "On Road" - long before I am near to the cache - it simply freezes... Captain Spherical
  5. Hello to all Can somebody please help me with my small problem... I have a new 60CSX with latest software upgrade and recently (Both before and after the upgrade) when I use the "Follow Road" method to locate a cache, the following occurs. On the normal map page everything performs perfectly - but when I "page" up to the next screen (section that has the directions to go to next - in small boxes) things start to deteriorate... I can see the distance to the next turn reducing as normal, then after that turn has been made (I am on a bicycle) that particular indication does not dissapear and no further indication of either distance or next turn to make, is activated. In effect the 60CSX has frozen in place. I have to step back to the map page (which itself has now frozen) and recalculate to continue..... I have tried the recalculate route command, when stationary and when peddaling like fury... both methods result in the same thing re-occuring. Ideas please Captain Spherical.
  6. Hello to all, I found a bird-house cache yesterday........ But - because I am older than Methuselah, weigh more than your average SUV, and am not 9 meters tall............. I had to gaze wistfully upon this unreachable cache, heave a sigh of frustration and leave it for the more agile of the caching community. Still all part of the fun.... Captain Spherical

  8. Thank you BlueDeuce for your quick and informative reply. We will be leaving in about 20 minutes to look for the cache. It`s good to be a small part of this great community. Captain Spherical...
  9. Hello to all, Please can you advise a Noobie (So new, that the wrapper is still on the GPSr) My three questions are on TB`s and concern the correct (or - accepted etiquette) for the movement of a TB. Our aim is to find Geocaches in our region of France, that contain (if any) TB`s. First, some background information - We live and work in France, and have the opportunity to travel throughout Asia two times every year. A total period of four months. The Countries visited (Business and/or Pleasure) are, Thailand, Tibet, Nepal, Bali, and India. I have extensively read this forum, (Midnight-Oil replenished many times) and all associated FAQ`s, I have tried following the logic and spirit concerning TB`s - but still have been unable to find a definitive answer to my questions. Q1: If I find and do not remove a TB and after researching/reading it`s history and mission - Can I return later and remove it ? - (Of course I will contact the owner and follow his/her instructions upon removal) Q2; If so, how do I log this second visit to the cache, with subsequent removal of the TB ?. Q3: Is it permissible to log and take a TB to one of the above Countries - Knowing that by doing so I have reduced the chance of that TB being moved further on it`s journey, within a reasonable period of time ?. Sorry to be so long winded, but I do not wish to upset anyone within the Geocaching community, if at all possible. Captain Spherical...
  10. Hello to all, This as you can see is my first post (but hopefully, not my last) After reading the first five, and the last four pages of this thread, I went straight to my first log and edited the entry. When someone takes the time, effort and expense to find a location for a cache, and asks for no reward, other than a response from the seeker - then a few words of praise and encouragement are a small price to pay. I would like to thank the whole Geocaching community for introducing my Wife and I to an exciting new experience. Our first day started with a new GPS, resulted in a find, and ended with a resolution to be a participating member of this great community. I will not be party to the "So long - and thank you for the fish" school of appreciation. Captain Spherical.....
