  1. What everyone else said. However, you are not allowed to hide a geocache without a GPS.

    Lemme guess; Patriots fan?
  3. I have no information and the assumption was clearly stated in the OP, which began with the line "Now I may be totally off base here, but it's beginning to bug me that the geocaching.com site still gets bogged down, yet Groundspeak is evidently spending money on Wherigo and Waymarking.com." The word "evidently" makes my assumption perfectly clear, and unless some reliable source can state that assumption to be unfounded I believe it to be valid - some of our geocaching.com geocache listing service membership fee is going to projects that are not directly related to the listing service, i.e. Waymarking and Wherigo. The geocaching.com geocache listing site continues to evolve and improve and I want my membership dollars to go into that process, not into the development of what I feel to be unrelated projects. My post covers no more territory than that. You also assume (you know the old saying about that word) that resources spent on Waymarking and Wherigo do not help geocaching. It's long been said that GC.com V2.0 will integrate fully with Waymarking. That tells me that software developed for Waymarking is also intended for geocaching, and vice versa. And if you are to assume (there's that word again) that income from the geocaching side helps fund Waymarking and Wherigo, then isn't it safe to assume income from those ventures helps fund the site that costs the most to run, gc.com? I mean, ya gotta wonder what sort of deal was made with Garmin to have the Wherigo stuff built into their new high end GPSrs. And what about Jeep and TBs? Surely the money derived from TB and geocoin sales and promotions like Jeep should only fund the TB aspect of the site, not geocaching as a whole. You pay your money to Groundspeak, and they use the money as needed to keep the company viable. Really, it really doesn't matter if the "Trackables" division has plenty of extra money if the "geocaching dept" goes belly up. Really, this is like complaining because General Motors uses money from SUV sales to fund hybrid car development. That's the way companies work. They use profits from one product to fund development of other products. Business 101, remember?
  4. Except that PQs ran today. So he even got his 2 cents worth.
  5. Who says ANY of your 8 cents a day is going to other Groundspeak products? Did Groundspeak go public without giving me the chance to get in on the IPO? I must have missed the finacial statements being made public that shows where the money goes or doesn't go.

Hm..some poeople think that for $2.5 per month will have support like from Oracle. I hear a lot of this "It's only $3 a month" used as some sort of excuse or justification for years of unstable service. Sorry, that doesn't work! Groundspeak sets the membership price... If Groundspeak isn't making enough money to build out its infrastructure at their charged price then they need to raise that price! That's simple Business 101. It's also simple Business 101 that if people don't feel they are getting value for what they pay they go elsewhere and you don't make a profit. The correlation to that is if most of your customers feel they are getting a fair return on what they spend they will stay, and your business will grow. Looking around at all the various gps game sites, I think it's obvious which one paid the most attention during Business 101.
  7. I can't see your profile to see if your job is listed cause the servers are acting up, but I'll make a leap of faith and guess that you DON'T work 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. Neither do Groundspeak employees. Just some perspective you know.
  8. Bluntly, don't let the door hit you in the bum on the way out. It's a small company, with a website devoted to a GAME! GEEEZE! If your new $30,000 car started acting up in the middle of a Saturday night, would you consider it unacceptable that the dealership didn't call in it's mechanics at midnight to fix you right up? Would you find it unacceptable if the stove in your new $300,000 home stopped working and the builder didn't rush right out at 4am Sunday morning to fix it? Yet it's unacceptable to you that some of the services you pay 8 cents a day for to help you play a GAME are not working to your satisfaction overnight on a weekend? A site that hasn't had any real downtime or slowdowns in months? If so, you need more help then fixing a website can provide.
  9. It violates the spirit and the intent. I have to say, if that method of hide were to show up in a park I managed, we would go to full permission required. I suspect if I wasn't also a cacher I would probably ban caches outright based on a buried cache and it wouldnt matter to me the land manager if you used a shovel or a hammer.
  10. Without going too far off the original topic.... Read the guidelines, Kid. If you need to dig a hole to find it or to hide it that's not allowed.

It's late Saturday night. Why aren't all you people in work? What? You don't work Saturday nights? You are home with your family? Hmmmmmm.....
  12. 'casue half the people in Northen Virginia are from New Jersey anyway! I guess the real reason is that the forums where created by a west coaster. Although, I've seen NJ, PA, Del, MD, DC and VA categorized as Mid-Atlantic before, but never as NE. Perhaps this is the *new* language of location! Actually, the creator of the forums is from Virginia. I believe Jeremy has posted before that he grew up in VA and has also lived in MD.
  13. Can ya move the other 15 identical posts here too?
  14. I learned that CTD is a good judge of people.
  15. If he is, he's almost 81yrs old. Oh, and dead.
  16. I gotta agree with 'Snat. Isn't that the appropriate response to "He's not playing the way I do! He's cheating!" posts? What's the difference between this and all the other complaints in this genre?
  17. I've searched before posting, I swear it! I know this question is now OT, but... HOW can I move "dead" TBs away from my caches? Thank you. Oppps, you replied while I was editing my original post to show that info.
  18. Yup, it would be useful. That's why that feature already exists, and has for years. Here is what the TB page looks like if the TB is in a cache you own:
  19. You can link to the caches. How do you plan to keep the cache list up to date? Pssst. You can't use PQs or automated scripts to scrape the data without direct permission from Groundspeak. You probably should also make it an opt-in only list, since many cache owners may not want their caches listed on another website, especially not one for rating caches.
  20. Looks like my profile and sig line links are broke.
  21. You would have to assume Groundspeak has no facilities for testing changes to the site other then live implementation. It's been stated before they have servers for beta testing code before it goes live. Adjusting PQ parameters and measuring the effects on a offline version of the database would be a trivial task you can be sure has probably been done many times over while trying to optimize site performance.
  22. That woodsman's pal has been on my "to buy" list for some time. My EDC knife is also a Kershaw Ken Onion (a Leek smoke). The Ken Onion spring assists are about as close to a switchblade as you can get and still be legal. I usually pack a SWA and a no-name multitool for caching as well. For camping or long hikes I also have a Cold Steel machete. I heard good thinks about the Glock straight blades, think I'm gonna look into one of those next.
  23. Thank you for finding that for me. But.......... I don't want to change my name, I want to have a new name linked to my current account. That page looked like it was for changing your name and not for creating a new name link to your current name and account. I know many people have more than one name linked to their account but I never saw the need to do it until recently. If I read that link page wrong please correct me. This really isn't that important but if I use initials, and the owner does go through the cache log with a fine tooth comb, the shorter name linked to my account might avoid some confusion and a possible deletion of a find. I've only been caching since 2001, but in that time I've never seen Groundspeak link 2 or more names to the same profile. Care to link us to some of the "many people have more than one name linked to their account"?
  24. I snapped a pic of Jeremy's office last time I was out there.
