...for someone to post a pic of the REAL Chobe! Illegitimus non carborundum!
  2. Greg, I think what you place in it depends alot on where and what the cache is. Obviously, a larger cache can have larger items then a micro or a mini. More important, I think, is the rating of the cache. A simple 1/1-2/2 cache is likely to attract families, so the cache should have something that will appeal to kids. A 4/4 and up cache is most likely going to be hunted by people that are in it for the challenge, not the toys. You can put fewer, more adult things, since chances are those people are there for the log book. A nice trinket or even a wheresgeorge.com bill is just a nice bonus. I don't think I would fill the cache with all identical things in any event, (unless its the Enduring Freedom cache!) variety is nice. : Illegitimus non carborundum!

  4. quote:Originally posted by gmaxis: New 1/1-star cache posted at a popular regional park. The weekend morning it was posted, I go to the park and find several cars at the parking lot. Now if you were there too, how can I tell which vehicles are owned by a fellow geocacher? What are the indications that your automobile is a Well, I don't normally jump for those 1/1 caches, but if I did, my car would be easy to find. It would be the car parked right behind Stayfloopy and BassoonPilot's cars. Oh, and the geocaching.com sticker across the back window, right under the "Work sucks, go jetskiing!" one. 8. I'll give Pellinore another vote for the Teddy R.! As for Wheretogo?Vertigo! That wasn't so much hard, as it was TERRIFYING! (btw, I'm pretty much afraid of heights, and dying, and that one has both elements!) Add Muskrats, Mosquitos & Muck by Marty621 onto that list as well. I'm willing to bet as soon as my gonads get big enough to try Marty's Melvin's Multiple Madness I'll be adding that to my list as well. After M,M&M, I have so far refused to attempt one like this solo, hehehehe Illegitimus non carborundum!
  9. South Plainfield checking in. Illegitimus non carborundum!
  10. quote:Originally posted by Exocet: what would be really nice would be the ability to download one big file with all the caches for a county or state, updated ...say, daily. That would be nice too, but would I wouldnt want to have to go thru those 500 caches and comment them, manually enter parking locations, change icons for found, not found, vituals, etc, every day! Especially since 495 of those 500 caches havent changed. If I had a list/email of changed and archived caches, I could just make the changes in EasyGPS and update the waypoints in the GPS. 11. I'm right there with Prime Suspect. Spare ziplocks, pens, logbooks, AND welcome sheets. Also usually have some camo duct tape that can be used to temp patch a cracked cache. Anything more then that, and your not repairing so much as replacing. Illegitimus non carborundum!

  13. quote:Originally posted by BassoonPilot: .... the high number of pages of FOUND caches some of us have to go past to get to the distant caches we haven't gotten to. Is there a way to skip those that I'm unaware of? Maybe it hasn't been brought up 'cause most of us don't have that kind of problem. Illegitimus non carborundum!

I've used my friend's V alot, and while its great, its just not as rugged as my GPS76. Fine for in the car or caching, but I would be leary of mounting it to the handlebars of my waverunner. If I had a cache find for every time I've kicked myself in the *** for not spending the extra $100 for the MAP76, I'd be higher up the list then Stayfloopy! Besides, it would give me incentive to hit some of those great sounding caches you got up your way. Illegitimus non carborundum!

  18. quote:Originally posted by macro: Well, I had my NRA hat sitting in the window and that meant nothing to the thief. I tend to agree that advertising that you own a weapon is just an invite to have it stolen, at least around here. (unless of course you are carrying it, then advertising it work just fine!) Yes, but did they steal the hat too? Illegitimus non carborundum!

  20. We all agree geocaching is growing by leaps and bounds. This is a good thing, of course, but as the number of local caches grow, waypoint management is getting harder. I have close to 650 active caches within 100 miles, and over 525 within 75 miles. I often do caches spur of the moment, just because I happen to be in the area, so I keep as many caches as possible loaded in my GPS. I'm constantly bumping up against my 500 waypoint limit. Its just impossible to notice looking at the local caches list if a cache that was on there last week has been archived, or been edited. There has been plenty of talk over the last year about ensuring the freshness of the cache database, but once that data gets moved to my GPS, it's very hard to maintain that freshness. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's hunted a cache, only to find it had been archived since adding the waypoint. Presently, deleting all my cache waypoints every week, and then getting a fresh list is the only solution to this. Editing 500 comment fields and icons every week is too time consuming to really be a viable option. A way to search for archived/edited caches would be ideal. At the very least, how about including a list of newly archived and edited caches along with the new caches in my weekly cache notification email. Illegitimus non carborundum!

  23. I came across this earlier today while looking up trademark info for the What IS A Geocoin? thread. Looks like someone other then Jeremy/Grounded/Groundspeak has applied for a trademark on the term "Geocache". Illegitimus non carborundum!

Didnt get them to work, and I dont have time to play right now. Interesting thing, I *DID see a trademark for "Geocache" and it's not Jeremy Irish's. Illegitimus non carborundum!
