  5. Greetings. I just got the magellan directroute while i purchased my explorist 600. Now the directroute program wont start till you put in the CD-1 disk in the computer and it gets the data off of that. Is there a way to install that disk to my hard drive so I dont have to put in that disk everytime I want to use the program? Smokey

  7. I tried to do some experiminting last night with waypoint to the 600. Found that I have to convert waypoints using GPSBabel and then it would load to directroute. Now I did forget about the conversion program and tried to connect to the GPS right from directroute and was unsuccessfull. This is very fustrating and hopefully Magellan will fix these issues with a patch.
  8. Can you help me with the GPSBabel. I have that program, but alittle instruction would help out alot. Smokey
  9. Ok Gang. I just got my 600 in yesterday from www.thegpsstore.com Now Im having difficulties and am looking for help. 1. I just got my 600 in yesterday and allready am having difficuties and hoping you can help. Ive been trying to use the Magellan Geocache program. When I try to load a Geocache querry of 500 caches, the program wont load all the caches to the unit. Ive tried both sending to the SD card and also internal memory. I do have EasyGPS, but wont work with this new unit and there is no upgrade yet. 2. Ive got my maps on the SD card with no problem, but while in the map, the caches that did load wont show up on the maps. I do have the unit map detail settings set to highest. 3. The electric compass. I did do the calibration as directed in the directions. But it seems to not be acurate as compared to my friends unit. Seems like 20 degrees off of his. I did redo the calibration and will see what happens. If you have any more tricks or ideas, Please, Please send them. This is one cool unit, but alot of training involved. I did find the full instruction book in PDF off the magellan site. I can be emailed at smokeyandteacher at charter . net Thanks again. Smokey & the teacher Sparta, WI.
  10. Clyde. I am new to GSAK so, question is the new Magellan Explorist series such as the 600 compatible? Smokey
  11. I called REI last night at my nearest store and they didnt have any. Asked about other stores and they found some in the Colorado stores. Said you can order over the phone through them. But I didnt want to go through that hassel so I just ordered last night a 600 from www.thegpsstore.com I called to confirm order this AM and was told they have many in stock and I hopefully will have mine tomarrow as I did the overnight shipping. Couldnt wait! gpsstore has a combo package deal where you can buy the unit, mapping program (TOPO or STREET) and a 64 meg. SD Card. Or you can just order the unit.

  14. looking for Milwaukee WI?? Might want to refer this question to the Wisconsin Geocaching Association forum. www.wi-geocaching.com Someone from that area should have the coords.
  15. Ive did a cache that used a very large plastic pickle jar that was buried to the lid of the jar. So the only thing sticking out of the ground is the lid which was painted and camo'd very well. This cache took us over a hour to finually find and when we did hit it we loved the idea! But there is no digging required here! leave the shovels at home.
  16. do we know if its still for sale.?? I might be interested. do you have a email for this person? I dont want to register for the other forum that he is on.. you can email me at my geocache name of smokey & the teacher if you like to keep private. thank you.
  17. I too added our email that is just strictly used for Geocaching. I put it on the Geocache sheet in the cache and also stensiled on the outside of the cache with the propper markings. I did this to hopefully deture any law inforcement blowing up my cache thinking it was otherwise!
  18. Well we probubally carry more then we should...but here it goes trade items, our signature trade items, first aid kit (just never know), a flashlight, bottled water for 2 on the long caches, our PDA, bug repellant (A must in Wisconsin), and some various cache supplies such as pencils, baggies, ect.. thats about it!
  19. Price lowered down to $225 after doing some price searching on the net. If interested please email me.
