  1. Good thoughts here BFJ. 👍😀 I've just added a 4th goal to my list...... 4. Complete more barefootjeff caches!!! 👍😀👍
  2. I've decided to add a 4th goal...... 4. Complete more barefootjeff caches!!! 👍😀👍 The caches I've done of his have been fantastic. They are well maintained and in great places. I'm more about geocaching experiences rather than grabbing smileys to fill grids, streaks, etc. BFJ caches certainly give me terrific geo-experiences.
  3. I don't normally do maintenance for another CO (unless specifically asked to by that CO) however, I do make an exception for a local CO husband and wife that I believe are quite elderly now. Their caches are in great locations and were placed back in the early to mid 2000s. I have these caches on my watchlist . If there's a problem, I get it sorted and place a WN log indicating the maintenance was performed. If someone places a NM log, after completing the maintenance, I contact my local Reviewer and ask them to please remove the NM attribute from the cache page which they are happy to do. There are a number of caches around that are quite special and are being cared for by our local community.
  4. I only have three geocaching goals: 1. To find a cache or caches in 50 countries around the world. I'm currently on 44 countries.... darn Covid!!! No overseas travel for me at the moment. 😖 2. To find a cache or caches on all 7 continents. I've found them on six continents so far, just Antarctica to go. One day!!! 3. To visit the site of the first geocache placement near Portland, Oregon. From Australia, it's a long way to that spot!!!! 🦘
  5. Perhaps asking the question on the Australian Geocaching Volunteer Reviewers Facebook page might get a response. I've also got my eye on some caches that I've placed a Needs Archive log on. Some were disabled by a Reviewer back in August saying they'll pass by in another 45 days. Still waiting.
  6. You could do that but you won't have access to the description, hint or previous logs when you're out in the field. Also, if you find the cache, you won't be able to log your find via the app. If you wish to remain a basic member, try one of the other apps available for your device....... https://apidevelopers.geocaching.com/partner-list
  7. This is great news. The facilities at Canberra Park look fantastic. I'm looking forward to it!
  8. Again.... I agree 100% with barefootjeff.
  9. On my geocaches, I'm 100% with barefootjeff on this!!! If a cache needs maintenance, I log a NM log. No pussy-footing around!! I then wait 4-6 weeks to see if the CO responds. If the CO can't get to the cache straight away, all they have to do is post a WN log at some point in that 4-6 weeks saying they're aware of the problem. After the 4-6 week period, if there's been no CO response, I then look at the CO's profile and see when they were last on the website, (yes, I know some cachers never or infrequently visit the website) but more importantly, when they last had a find. If there's been recent geocaching activity. I'll post a WN on the cache page asking if the CO intends to perform maintenance. I'll then follow this up with a message to the CO via the Message Centre. I'll give them another 2 weeks to respond. If no response again, the next step is a NA log to bring it to the attention of a Reviewer to, as I put it, to "determine this cache's future". If after the initial 4-6 week period after a NM log and no recent CO geocaching activity, the next step is a NA log. Hopefully, the CO will get their act together and do something about the problem. In my experience, the cache generally is archived by the Reviewer after following their processes. I'll add a caveat here. During Covid times including lockdowns, I tend to be more generous with my timeframes.
  10. I was waiting for a communication with the responses to logging tasks from a finder of one of my earthcaches. No email notification from them. I go to the Message Centre and there's no communication from them. OK, they're new players, I guess they're unsure of what to do. I decided to send a message explaining the procedure so clicked on their name to go to their public profile. I then clicked on the Send Message link and up pops their communication sent two days ago! I only looked at the Message Centre earlier in the afternoon and nothing was there! I've also been communicating with another newbie and wondered why I didn't get a response from them to my last message. It turns out my message, sent a week ago, didn't arrive in their Message Centre inbox. It wasn't until she clicked on my name that my message suddenly appeared. Definitely a bug there somewhere!
  11. Kunarion, you're a legend! I updated my graphics drivers and the problem seems to have been fixed. All my background images look normal again. Big thanks to all who assisted me here with special thanks to kunarion. 👍😀
  12. Sorry BFJ, don't agree with that one. I believe a DNF log is all about the actual search for the cache, not the journey to get there.
  13. As I said.... bizarre!!!!!
  14. For me, definitely a Write Note log type. I use a DNF log when I've actually arrived at GZ, searched for whatever length of time and was unable to locate the cache. The Write Note is telling of my adventure so far. If I arrive at GZ, but don't search, (perhaps muggles are sitting near where I think I want to search), I would still log a write Note log type explaining the situation.
  15. This is bizarre. I've swapped out the image to another one I use and everything looks fine. I then had a look at one of my earthcaches. I've previously not had any issues. Check it out...... Here's what the image should look like....
  16. I've now changed the background image to Hugh's one. The colour looks fine all the way down the page on the left but as you scan across to the right side of the page, you can see the colour shifting. Weird!!!!!
  17. Yes, the image is a .jpg. I've used this image as a background before without issue so not sure why I'm finding a problem now. I'm not sure what you mean by this.
  18. I'm using Chrome Version 92.0.4515.107 on Windows 10
  19. Looking at the background image on some of my cache listings on the website, I've noticed there's an issue with how the image is presented with the colour shifting on the background image as I scroll down the page. Can anyone tell me what's happening here? Is it something I can fix? Thanks for any help. Bottom of page:
  20. As a Basic Member using the Official Geocaching App, (and it sounds like that's the app you are using), only traditional caches with a difficulty and terrain rating of 2 or below, as well as events, will be available to you. As a Basic Member, If you go to the Geocaching website using a browser, then you'll see all geocache types, involving all difficulty/terrain ratings, displayed. Take note of the coordinates, information, hints etc, and go and find the caches. You can log any of these caches via the website. The only caches you won't see are the ones the cache owners have marked as "Premium Member Only". There are other apps for your device you could use for geocaching that will give you full access. Some are free while others have a cost. https://apidevelopers.geocaching.com/partner-list
  21. I was hoping this would be the case. Thanks baer2006 for your response. 👍
  22. I've already disabled all of my caches that are located in the area of restriction. I do have some caches located outside the restricted zone so have left them in play for now. The bonus cache associated with the AL is disabled. By temporarily disabling the AL, are there any issues for those that have previously found the AL? Agree 100%
  23. I'm wanting to disable my AL due to a current Covid-19 Stay At Home health order by our state government (NSW, Australia). I know how to disable it and will enable it again once the restrictions are lifted. My question is, will disabling the AL have any adverse affects on any of the data in the AL? For example, will the Activity Log be wiped clean? Hopefully, it's just a matter of turning it off for a period of time and turning it back on again later and all will be well. Thanks
  24. I don't use the Geocaching page editor. Instead, I use an online HTML editor to create my cache page including adding images. With regard to images, I upload them to the cache page then I right-click the image and select "Copy image address" or similar. I then add the image URL into the online editor. When I'm happy with the page content, I press the "Source" button in the online editor then copy all the HTML code into the appropriate spot on the cache edit page. make sure the cache edit page "Source" button is green. Formatting for everything always stays the same. This is the online editor I use in it's maximised form (4-arrow button): https://www.html.am/html-editors/online-html-editor.cfm
