  1. Fantastic!!! A GeoMay8 Day event has been published in Andalucía, Spain. Check it out....... https://coord.info/GCAPKZC
  2. In Australia, "Mateship" is a cultural idiom that embodies equality, loyalty and friendship. It is a concept that can be traced back to our early colonial times. The harsh environment in which convicts and new settlers found themselves meant that men and women closely relied on each other for all sorts of help. In Australia, a 'mate' is more than just a friend and is a term that implies a sense of shared experience, mutual respect and unconditional assistance. Having said that, the term “mate” can also be used for the first time you meet someone, especially when you don’t know their name. For example, “Excuse me mate, sorry I bumped into you!!” or “Hey mate, are you geocaching?” or when someone needs help, “Hey mate, do you need a hand with that?” For the last three years, on the 8th May, I’ve held an event to celebrate one of the best things I like about geocaching, the Geo-Mates one meets through this great activity. It’s a time when we can catch up with old Geo-Mates and make lots of new ones, and celebrate that friendship. As many of you have done, I’ve made so many great geo-mates all around the world. My events are held at a local watering hole here in Sydney, with a very Australian name, The Ettamogah Hotel. Here is a link to this year’s event… GeoMay8 Day at the 'Mogah – 2024 Now, I thought I would advertise my event via the Geocaching Forums in the hope that others might like the concept of celebrating great Geo-Mates and would consider hosting a GeoMay8 Day Event themselves. It would be fabulous if GeoMay8 Day Events popped up all around the world. Who knows, if the concept catches on, perhaps one day Groundspeak might make this into an annual day such as International Geocaching Day or Earthcache Day. They might even offer a souvenir!! Wouldn’t that be great!! This year, GeoMay8 Day falls on a Wednesday. My event is a dinner one. Perhaps you could host a half hour event at a local cafe or bar after work. I've hosted events in the city around lunch time and managed to get a few geocaching workers to attend. Whatever works for you. If you do get onboard and host a GeoMay8 Day Event, please post here and let us know about it. Here’s to a fabulous celebration of great Geo-Mates. Cheers, Calypso62 - Down Under 🦘
  3. Mates - So many great geoMates both here in Australia and overseas. Travel - Love finding caches on my overseas travels. Hiding - Love receiving logs where the logger has enjoyed the caching experience and has appreciated the effort that's gone into creating and maintaining that experience.
  4. Yep! This is still a problem for me too.
  5. I had this problem too and couldn't figure it out. I went to the website settings and made sure the newsletter box was ticked in the Email Preferences section. Still I wasn't receiving newsletters. In the end, I gave up worrying about it. At some point much later, I was looking at the settings in the Official Geocaching app. I clicked on Email Preferences and noticed the newsletter preference was in the off position. I turned it on and voila!!! I now receive newsletters. Perhaps this will solve your newsletter problem???
  6. One thing I've noticed is that, on a basic account using the geocaching app on Android, there is no Write Note log type on owned caches. The only log types available are Owner Maintenance, Disable and Archive.
  7. These look good but certainly more expensive.
  8. It's just a standard 90mm PVC screw cap that comes with a rubber gasket that slots into a groove around the top of the cap. They didn't always come with a gasket. I used to put a bead of silicon in the groove as the gasket. It sells for $A3.40 ($US2.20) at Bunnings.
  9. This is retail pricing. We have a chain of hardware warehouses in Australia called Bunnings which is where I buy the bits and pieces. A visit to Bunnings is an institution Down Under especially on a Saturday for the sausage sizzle, a charity/sports club/Scouts/etc fundraiser.
  10. It costs around $A10 ($US6.50) for each one.
  11. I really like using 90mm PVC pipe with screw top lids that have a sealing ring, in varying lengths. They're strong, durable and weather resistant.
  12. Sadly, I didn't even bother with this month's challenge. After the 31 Days of Geocaching back in August, 2013, I was done with streaks. Back then it got to a stage where I "had" to find a cache, not I "want" to find a cache. I did complete the challenge however but it was a pain in the @#$% in the end. Agree 100%.
  13. I agree 100% with this statement. If something needs changing..... then change it!
  14. That's what I have to do now but it would be nice if the Write Note log type was an option in the geocaching app for owned, disabled caches....... but it isn't!
  15. Just an acknowledgement of the issue from HQ would be appreciate.
  16. I was in the city on a maintenance run of some of my caches that were disabled. Arriving at GZ, I could see what needed to be done but I didn't have the necessary equipment with me to effect the repair at that time. As I didn't actually do anything, I wanted to place a Write Note log type to let cachers know that I was on to the problem and remedial action was being planned. Opening the official app on my Oppo Android phone and hitting the "Log" button, I discovered there was no option for a Write Note log type. The only options were Owner Maintenance, Enable and Archive. To post my Write Note log, I had to open the cache in my browser. It would be very helpful and appreciated if a Write Note option could be added to the list of log types for owned disabled caches. Thanks Groundspeak.
  17. *** Happy GeoMay8 Day everybody!!! ***
  18. So this is now the end of April and I'm still seeing this issue on my computer using Chrome to access the Message Centre on the website. Can you give us an update please worrellsquirrel.
