  1. I'm staying in central London next week (16th - 20th) if anyone cares for a pint let me know.
  2. Buxley's Geocaching Waypoint website (click here) has been blocked by Geocaching .com since August 22nd. I think this is a shame as the site was a handy means of looking out for new caches, the map layout was better than Geocaching.coms own and caches didn't go missing as with Geocacheuk (not a criticism as I have read about the server difficulties). It seems the problems are similar to the ones experienced by Geocacheuk, Geocaching.com obviously want to look after their business but I don't think Buxley's site was in opposition to their interests, in fact I believe it enhanced it by supplying a map based reference which was better than Geocaching.com. (most of the caches in my area seem to be in the middle of the Bristol Channel according to Geocaching.com) I hope the problem can be resolved but it does seem as though the site owner is a bit teed off with the situation and may turn his efforts to other caching sites which I think would be a pity and a loss to us here in the UK.
  3. What is the reason for this ban, I thought most of the Forest of Dean was common land with open access to 90% of its area, hence the abundance of cycle tracks and walking trails. Has the ban been made by Gloucestershire County Council or by a UK rep of Geocaching.com or for some other reason?
  4. This is a very good site for PMR 446 information 446 User. The range can be quiet good over flat terrain but can go down to a few hundred yards in built up areas. Beware of buying walkie talkies on Ebay, alot of stuf sold from the states are not UK/ Europe standard which means at a practical level the channels are different and they are not legal to operate in the UK. Another tip is always buy a radio with "sub-channels" and if possible one that "scans".
  5. International sports person (don’t ask I’m required to keep stum! By the powers that be.) - Defender of maidens - Slayer of Dragons – taster of fine wines and beer, all these are my recreational activities, but in reality I’m also Web Author / News Editor of a city Scout District and a kept Man ( My wife earns more than me!) any job offers will be considered!!<br> Newport Scouts
  6. Its has very poor detail for the UK, in my area it shows villages in the middle of the Bristol Channel (which is a tidal estuary). Town names are mis-spelt, the road plan is misaligned with main roads missing. This isn't going to give members in the UK anything to get excited about!

    Streetmap.co.uk

Streetmap.co.uk or Multimap both of which show Ordinance Survey maps would be preferable to any of the Map choices we now have for the UK on Geocache.com
  8. When I'm mobile I use a Palm tungsten PDA (Bluetooth) with my Nokia 7650 Phone (Bluetooth) to access the web, do limited browsing and send and read emails, its handy (and a neat party trick using your Palm to dial your phone when its hidden in your pocket, I must get out and meet real people) using the bluetooth technology which allows devices to comminicate with each other but bewarned the phone calls are classed as data transmissions and are not usually included in free call packages and will cost a minimum of 5p per minute some, mobile providers charge a 10p minimum for data calls! If you are going to use your PDA via a phone a lot, it might be cheaper to sign up to a 0800 internet provider by paying a fixed monthly fee avoiding the data transmission charges.
  9. It works fine on my Nokia 7650, very impressed. No problems installing or running the midlet.
  10. Take a look at this link Confluence projectI think you will find most of the confluences have been logged in the UK apart from a nautical ones !
  11. The area is called "Bagmoor Common, maybe that's a hint?
  12. Has anyone tried Fugawi (FUGUK-4) for a Palm, I'm thinking about buying it but would like a bit more info from someone who has used it. You can find a link here Fuguk-4 for anyone else who might be interested in buying.
  13. You will need a cable conection from here and check out this thread PDA
  14. I use an Etrex Vista connected to a Palm Tungsten T (PDA)using Mapopolis software. The Mapopolis mapping detail is no better than the Garmim MetroGuide but the Tungsten does have a slightly bigger screen size and is in colour. With the Mapopolis pda software you first download the viewer, which is free and then download the County area which is about 8 dollars per county. Before you buy check out this thread Software for PC, Pocket PC and Palm with 1:50,000 OS Maps
  15. Hello Monz, nice to have you back
  16. I've just bought a Palm Tungsten (from Staples, excellent price) and I would like to know what mapping or Geocaching related software can be recommended. (I already use Mobipocket to read the cache download from GC.com)
  17. quote:From the site: The Interactive Map will be unavailable after 16:00 on Tuesday 28 January. Apologies for any inconvenience this will cause. Pity, it seems a nice tool.
  18. quote:From: Neafearjustbear .... All I can say is I hope that nobody has inadvertantly placed a cache in on or under a sacred site to give them the Proof that they are looking for. I think its best I own up and say sorry
  19. I think these guys might be interested in an unknown (to them) stone circle in South Wales, should I tell them?
  20. quote:From "The Modern Antiquarian Forum" Re: GeoCaching Hi Pid! Hi Dan! All your geocaching-centric posts have been removed, and your accounts suspended. If you want to have a cry about it, please email ed@themodernantiquarian.com and we will explain why! Oh dear, by the way Dan and Pid, do you own or have access to a four wheel drive vehicle?
  21. Doh and double Doh quote: Its quite a good way of advertising geocaching by simply dropping a hint on a page saying that there is hidden treasure for any visitors! Give it a whirl I think some of you might find it extremely interesting! Looking at the response to your posting they don't seem to be the good time guys you describe! Suggest you don't use their forum for advertising Geocaching.
  22. Last one from me (unless I know better) to go with "The Bog" (sorry to lower the intellect of this forum) http://www.streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=345925&Y=196335&A=Y&Z=3
