    DUDE...we're just SHARING!!! icon_wink.gif

And besides...I thought as long as you weren't making money, you could give out as many copies as you want of the copyrighted music that you OWN.

  3. A while back I was going to use those tiny Tabasco bottles as my signature item, but I think I saw someone else using it. Haven't thought of anything else...Buck8Point uses little packets of Tony Chachere's (can anyone say that name?) creole seasoning. If I'd have found a big box of that before he did, I'd have gone with that icon_wink.gif.

  5. does and EXCELLENT job of what you're looking for, but it does cost 60 bucks. But I'd sure like to know too if any freeware out there does the same thing.

Can we exchange trail tracks here?? I have the milemarkers in an EasyGPS file, .loc, (not really a track) for the Trail Between the Lakes in East Texas..it's 28 miles and goes from the Toledo Bend reservoir(?) to the Sam Rayburn Reservoir.

  6. Well, they both sound really good. I like that you can import a scanned map into Ozi Explorer, but it seems that Ozi doesn't have maps already associated with it. ExpertGPS uses maps from the web, so I don't have to worry about finding the maps. With Ozi, I'd have to find a map, calibrate it, THEN I can use it for all the cool stuff that it does. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

I think I'm gonig to go with ExpertGPS since it uses the format that's already associated with Geocaching.com, and it's already got all the maps..I just have to let them download as I need them.

    Thanks for the info everyone!

  7. I thought the clock in the gps unit was set by the user...does it really recieve the time fron the satellites?! I have a Magellan 320.

The reason I thought it was user-set is I drove to a different time zone and the time didn't change. The gps should know what time zone I'm in and correct the time shouldn't it?

  9. try drawing the shape on graph paper...with STRAIGHT edges..it comes out the same.

What I did was look at the areas...the areas of 2 triangles and the two odd shapes.

The area of all the shapes added together is 32. Even with the one with the hole...the area of the shaded shapes is still 32, but add the hole in and you get 33!

Even more wierd...the area of the entire big triangle is 32.5!!!!

  13. Parking should be part of your research. Keep the description in mind...if it says, "in a local park, wildlife management area, etc." then the parking part should be easy, but still always look at mapquest or topozone or some map with the cache spot marked on it so you can get familiar with it's exact location and the best approach to take (and the best parking lot to park in).

For really rural caches, I print out a closely zoomed in map with exact surrounding street names (or dirt road numbers), and a larger overview map that has the nearest interstate or whatever. I drive as close as I can, following the map, not the gps, and if there's nowhere to park, or I'm on the wrong side of a river, mountain, etc, I use the map to get to the best parking spot. I don't really trust the gps until I'm out of the car. Even then, trails that twist and turn are kinda tricky when you only know your direct distance. I hiked over a mile once and the whole time I was .2 miles from the cache. Too far to bushwack, and too close to give up [icon_wink.gif].

Parking coords or driving directions are nice when the cache is WAY back there, but you can do it without. And everyone's got their own system, just give yourself time to develop yours.

  15. There are some people engaged in this activity with some pretty over-active imaginations. An illusion of a special service?? Cachers 'gone bad' that return to do mischief after they've had enough with traditional geocaching?? People secretly passing MOC coordinates in some underground geocacher-rebel cult?? These are the makings of a villian from the Brady Bunch.

I like the idea of giving people permission to search and log a MOC because I don't really want to eliminate geocachers from the game. But I would like to eliminate cache looters from the Earth...since that's not feasible, keeping them out of the know is going to have to be good enough. I realize that most looters probably just stumble on the caches or see others finding/hiding them. But since there ARE immature high-schooler d**kf***s that need a good head-stomping, I like the ability to keep the cache info under cover.

I don't think I'm better than anyone else because I have this ability, in fact, there's probably more non-charter members with an elitist mentality because they stood their ground and didn't suck up to The Man. That being said, I offer the info for any of my MOCs (right now, none, but maybe in the future) to anyone who has an active geocaching history, regardless of social status, political preference, physical appearance, or sexual orientation. We're all geocachers here, so let's go find some friggin geocaches.
