  1. - By a person who hasn't logged in since '11. I'd call this a case of 'grave digging'.
  2. You cannot place it on a watch list. It is yours, you automatically get an email when appropriate. I'm guessing that you are speaking of Geo Road Trip . You do not receive emails for "Visit" logs. The person that has it since February has taken it to 103 caches since that time.
  3. I have an I Phone with the Gepcaching app and an icon to the Geocaching web site. When I open the web site it asks me to sign in every time. This seams like a waste of time and unnecessary function since I have seen others that can go directly to the site. Yes there is a box on the page used to sign in that that says "keep me signed in" that box has not effect. I have removed the icon and reloaded it to no avail. It seems like you switched horses in mid-stream here... you started by asking about the app, but your focus now seems directed to/at the website. Regardless... You should remain as "logged in" the app if you never log out, by simply closing out the app (as stated in a previous posting). Likewise, you should remain as "logged in" to the website if you never log out and just close that (browser) window. Signing into one will not automatically sign you into the other.
  4. I'm confused here.... are you talking about the app or the website? You say website, but your posts are about the phone and/or app.
  5. He's speaking of a Visiting log, where the trackable logs say "took it to" on the trackables history. Yupper... Dipping is "old-timer" terminology. Used to be that one would "Place" a TB then promptly "Retrieve" it again. This would record that it had been taken to (that cache). More lately, the "Visit" log has rendered dipping obsolete.... although you can still do that. A "Visit" log does not generate an email notification to the trackable owner, whereas dipping (Drop/Retrieve) does.
  6. A recent post in the iPhone app forum: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=332028&view=findpost&p=5515577 . There is a chance that the paid app will be updated, but I see that as a fading chance only. Many folks report that the Intro-app has better-looking map quality to begin with. If you look at the matter from a business standpoint, it makes sense to fade out the old(er) one and replace it with the new(er) one. (Geocaching) folks seem to forget that GS products are part of a business. The Windows app has not been updated for an even longer time and reportedly never will be... probably because of Windows phone being on the wane.
  7. Are you following the Garmin manual directing you to their (XXXX)caching.com site (the site you named)? If so, that is your problem. Just because their manual directs you there doesn't mean that you must use it. Try the geocaching.com website and see if you notice anything different. Also take note that you see on your phone app is only a partial of what you will see on the geocaching.com website.
  8. These things happen from time-to-time. Not a big deal as you can just Grab it back (as you did). You can move it into your Collection. This would allow for ONLY a Discover log or a Note log (including by you, the owner). To do this, open the EDIT option on the trackable page, check the box for "This is Collectible" (you must do that in order to move it from your Inventory to your Collection). You can then place it into your Collection. Remember... you will not be able to log it Visited to any cache while it is in there!
  9. Nah... it's really quite simple. If you Did Not Find it, it is still an Unfound cache. It's true too, that assigning a blue frowny-face would mask the cache type, besides.
  10. Inasmuch as the app itself is nothing other than a "tool" for phone use, I don't think this would do much good. It already seems that many users believe the app to be the website proper, but it isn't. I see this as merely adding to that confusion. This depends upon which app you are speaking of. The Intro-app will not allow for the posting of a NA log -- only a Found It!, a DNF or a Note. I do however, expect to see an NA log option in an upcoming version of the Intro-app. The fact that trackables go missing really shouldn't be associated with a phone app. They have gone missing since their inception. Forgetful or uninformed geocachers or out-and-out thieves are a bigger problem. Quite frankly, I see more long-time geocachers lose or mis-log trackables as much if not more than I see nØØbs. A lesson... As in a class of sorts? Please clarify.
  11. You posted a photo of each of your four trackables on the TB page showing the tracking #. Those photos go into a public "library" which is available to everybody that has that library address. They use it to search through those showing a photos (such as you posted), take the number and log a Discovery. I saw each of them in that library... but I do not post Discoveries of such as others do. Delete those photos that show the number(s). But do be prepared for many more Discoveries anyway (some of those folks compile lists and pass them around). Rule #1 regarding trackables -- NEVER post a photo of the number, or the number itself, online.
  12. The tutorial link above is very good, but here it is, step-by-step... PC instructions for loading a Garmin GPSr. 1] Boot up the PC. Do not activate a browser. 2] Plug Garmin into PC, turn on Garmin and allow it to boot > 3] Connectivity would be revealed by an acknowledgement beep or such > 3] Click-open the PC "Start" Menu > 4] Open the "Computer" tab to display available drive units > (Your Garmin GPSr should be denoted as a drive, named as "Garmin") 5] Click on that Garmin drive to open it > 6] Locate a folder named something like Garmin/GPX/ > (If using a microSD card, that file should be on that card -- eTrex 10 units do not use a card) 7] Open a new window and locate the downloaded PQ data file > (If that downloaded data is a single zipped file, it must be unzipped first. Unzipping 'should' produce two files: xxxxxxx.gpx AND xxxxxxx-wpts.gpx) 8] Drag and Drop (or copy/paste) BOTH of those .gpx files to the Garmin/GPX/ folder > 9] Hover cursor over the Garmin drive and Right-Click to open a drop-down menu, select 'Eject'. The computer will tell you when it is safe to uplug the Garmin* > 10] Turn off the Garmin and unplug it. Done! Boot up the Garmin again and CHECK to make sure the geocache data loaded BEFORE going afield. It's a real pain to be miles from your computer to find out that no data was loaded. * If using a Mac instead of a PC, step 9 is unnecessary.
  13. Remember... the app IS NOT the website -- it is only a tool of the phone. Once the log has been sent, it now has nothing to do with your phone. You need to access the website to delete the offending log. You can access it from a computer terminal or your phone (Safari).
  14. I believe that "Alert" flag remains there until past your renewal date. Maybe not, if you log out/back in.
  15. Pocket Queries: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=117 , download any number up to 1,000 caches 10 queries/day. How-to by the numbers: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=118 . A tutorial on how to load that data to a Garmin: http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/files/paperless_garmin.pdf .
  16. So stated.... it can take a seemingly looooong time for the device to find satellites, build an almanac and properly display the correct position. This happens when it is new, moved long distances w/o being turned on and when sitting unused for long periods of time (hopefully, without batteries installed if a very long time). This question comes up with moderate regularity here.... Do not attempt to hurry it.
  17. 400 yards off usually means that you are trying to mix differing formats. My iPhone (5) compass uses Degree-Minutes-Seconds and I have not found it to be switchable. Google Earth (default) is Degree-Minutes-Seconds, but is switchable. Geocaching.com (default) uses Degree Decimal-Minutes... that too, is switchable. I see that you have found six caches. Did you find them with your phone? If so, which app are you using? You can obtain proper coordinates easily from most any (geocaching) app -- on both of the Groundspeak apps, your current position is always displayed in the compass window. Giving us an example of BOTH sets of coordinates may help to ID the problem.
  18. This link probably gives the best answer/response: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=514 . Compare the first two examples (free app as Basic Member vs free app as Premium Member). Note that ALL traditional caches appear with Premium Membership... regardless of Difficulty or Terrain ratings. Caches that will not show are: EarthCaches, Virtual Caches, Letterbox-Hybrid Caches, Event Caches or CITO Caches.
  19. I love this idea but how would they use them? I don't understand that apparently. There would be no wifi around town. Obviously we could use it to program them but to actually track them it would use the gps accurately without a service plan? It works fine. The GPS chip does not rely on data, you don't need a data connection to use it. You do need a connection when you load the data and save it to the unit, is all. EDIT to add: Probably better than getting a bunch of dedicated GPSr units. The app is "user friendly" -- much more so than a GPSr to a beginner. Compound that with unknowing folks trying to explain how to use the device to another unknowing chap.
  20. Taking it a step further, some dogs have accounts, also.
  21. It will delete, in its own time. Once you hit the delete button it is done... it sometimes take a few days to clear from your screen.
  22. Should you have to wait for approval, you can select whatever date you want... you needn't use only the date the log was posted online.
  23. You can select a list from most any cache in the park... such as this one: http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=62fe55cf-0000-4e7d-945d-29012cbabc56 . Then, run a Pocket Query and add that to your phone saved as a list. You can access that list without data service. Your GPS in the phone works just fine without a data connection, you simply cannot access geocaching.com for a live list.
  24. Can you put the magnet INSIDE of the container? It may cut some of the holding power down, but still hold the cache in place. It certainly would not "break away" from the cache.
  25. The 64s and the 64st are exactly the same... the "t" denotes preloaded topo maps. If you were to purchase the 64s then purchase the Garmin topo map, load it yourself, the price equates to the same. Take note: there are lots of free and other (pay for) maps for Garmin units out there....
