  1. GZ = Ground Zero (where the cache is to be found) TNLN = Took nothing, left nothing (ie. didn't trade any swap items in the cache). TFTC = Thanks for the cache (usually found in log books/online logs)
  2. I reckon siloans would probably be up there too!! Must be something to do with having a cachername that starts with an "s"?!?
  3. The Pelistry Toll on St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly gets cut off at high tide if that counts?? Not too sure its a seperate "island" though...
  4. I have sent a couple too in case the ones above don't come through for some reason
  5. Yep, that's worked. Thanks for the quick & helpful replies.
  6. Picked up one USA and one European geocoin yesterday and am in the process of logging them on the site (these are the first coins I have come across). No problem with the USA one - it's tracking code was XXXXX (where X's = numbers). On the EU one the tracking code is XXXXXX-YYYY (where X's are letters and Y's are numbers). I cannot seem to get the travelbug tracking site to recognise it. Which letters / numbers should I be putting in, or is there a specific site rather than the normal travelbug one for logging these coins? Thanks for any help.
  7. I also don't normally go in for this type of thread (or post that much for that matter!! ) but have only just seen this and thought I should add a well deserved note of congratulations. Have a safe journey back & keep on blogging - I always enjoy reading it.
  8. Thanks guys, I've got it figured now - I knew some clever types on here would be able to help me out. Don't worry, not attempting to place a cache (yet). A friend is doing some archeological work in the Peak District and is locating various ancient burial sites. She has the opportunity to borrow someone's GPSr but only had the grid reference coordinates rather than the lat / long - knowing I had a Garmin myself she asked me to help her convert. The blind leading the blind one might say!! Hopefully this will make it a bit easier than wielding an A0 size map up on the hills. Thanks again people!!
  9. Still fairly new to this geocaching game but was wondering if someone could help me with a little problem. If I have a set of coordinates in the format SK1493782574 and I enter them in the converter here It spits out: 53.33986 -1.77713 as the WGS84 conversion. How does this relate to the standard N XX.XX.XXX WXX.XX.XXX that you see as coordinates at the top of a cache page and I enter into my GPSr?? I know (from trial and error on multimap and similar) that the coordinates should look close to N53.20.23? W01.46.37? How does this relate to the WGS84 above?? I am soooooo confused. Any help, (preferably in very simple language as if talking to a child) would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
  10. This is a cache that you can grab without even getting out of the car, great views as well: Pump Hill, Louhgton, Essex
  11. Thanks, I did try googling for a picture before asking but all it came up with was this Thought it might be something different.
  12. Umm, sorry to sound daft but what is a fuse can?
  13. In England (I think I've got this right): 1 English litre = 0.2642 US gallons therefore 3.785 English litres = 1 US gallon petrol (sorry, gas!!) = £0.897 / english litre x 3.785 = £3.40 / US gallon Through the currency convertor = $6.46 / US gallon And we were told in the newspapers the other day rising oil prices could mean it going over £1.00 per English litre which will mean over $7.19 / US gallon. What fun
  14. Pinched this from a car forum I frequent and it looks quite interesting - before I trek down there to have a look can anyone tell me whether it looks a good buy or not?? Aldi are now selling a Pocket PC with integrated GPS and the full car kit for £249.99. I just bought one today and have to say I'm delighted. The bundle is very comprehensive, lots of kit, lots of software. The screen quality is very good, the voice commands are very clear. Possibly the best thing is the integrated GPS feature, there are no cables at all, so you can walk around with the unit in your hand and it continues to navigate. The bundled software is excellent, worked first time out of the box and is a leading challenger of TomTom3. I've just been out for a drive with it and am amazed at how good it is. If you bung checkpoint software on there it will also warn you of speed cameras, much like a B2 or RoadAngel. Reviewed here www.bargainpda.com/default.asp?newsID=1973 and here http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/handhe...39152143,00.htm The offer only started today and I expect they'll sell out pretty quickly. Oh, and 3 year warranty too. Cheers, Steve.
  15. Again, not in the UK but I think this one Gokyo Ri takes some beating for remoteness. And difficulty. And terrain.
  16. Although I don't really contribute on the forums I wouldn't mind coming along to meet a few of you. Either date would suit me. Strangely enough I was in that pub last night when the power failed on the central line. Decided rather than wait at the tube station I might as well wait with a pint in my hand. I go there regularly and as noted above, the pub and the room upstairs is very small (they don't even have room for the toilets to be inside!!) but it is a cracking place. The only real downside is having to go up and down the extremely steep and narrow staircase every time you need to go to the bar / WC - gets more risky as the night wears on
  17. Noted and duly smacked myself on the wrists. Profile at gc.com now filled in. On topic, although I've only mananged a handful of local caches to date, I just missed kbootb as mentioned above at Deer Stalking and arrived 20 mins after paragliderboy at Epping Forest Ramble - must have walked past each other on the lakeside path going to / from the carpark.
  18. Quick intro as I've just discovered these forums a month or so after getting my first GPS and starting geocaching. Stumbled across this interesting hobby purely by accident after reading a reference to it somewhere on the internet. A bit of googling later and gc.com popped up with GCUK following shortly. Two days later I was down on Tottenham Court Road wandering round electrical shops and trying desparately to comprehend the differences between the GPSr's on offer. Ended up with a Legend and still don't know whether it was the right choice but it'll do for now. In any case, my "real-life" name is Steve and I live in Loughton, (up the end on the Central line near Epping Forest). Feeling like I'm getting to know people by reading post histories on these pages which is very odd as I've never met any of you before. Hopefully that will change in the future if I get around to attending some of these meetings. Work keeps me fairly busy but I'm going to try and fit in this new hobby around the boring stuff. So, in conclusion (presuming you've not fallen asleep yet) a big hello to all & special thanks to Chris n' Maria & Nick and Ali for setting some great caches locally to me to "cut my teeth on". Jessex - I haven't got to any of yours yet but watch this space. Cheers for now. Steve.
