  1. "Avoid Highways" was not checked, but thanks for givingme something to go on. Any clues about the different settings for Calculation Method? (quickest, quick, better, best)
  2. A couple recent road trips have made me like the auto routing less and less. Twice now I have created a route in Mapsource, downloaded it to the 60cs, and when I activate the route it calculates a different path. Even if I have added via points to force it to go a certain way, the 60cs will sometimes choose a different path... sometimes backtracking to hit the via point. Both products are working off the same map data (City Select 6), so that makes me think it is the routing algorithm. And yes, I had the detail maps downloaded for the entire route. A couple days ago I was driving from Northern CA to the SF bay area. The route on Mapsource had me going down I5 to 505 to 80 and so on. The 60cs was trying with all its might to avoid 505. Even as I was getting on I5, it was trying to have me turn around and backtrack 30 miles to get to hwy 99. It wasn't until I actually got on 505 that it decided that was an OK route to take. Does anyone know any tricks to defining routes that will get you the same results on the 60cs as Mapsource? It seems that the route is just a couple waypoints and when sent to the 60cs it calculates it's own path. Oh, and the 60cs is using the latest firmware (3.50)
  3. Well, what do you know! You're right. I had asumed that since the USB connection was there that the serial was not. Thanks - I have successfully loaded my tracks into USAPhotoMaps. -Jeff
  4. Right, but it does not support that function over USB, which is all my 60cs has.
  5. GPS data is all about waypoints. Routes and tracks are just collections of waypoints... so it seems like there should be a way to convert a track into a set of waypoints or a route. Specifically what I am trying to do is get a track from my GPS (Garmin 60cs) into USAPhotoMaps. I can't do it directly because the software will only load routes from a file, not tracks. Tracks can only be loaded by direct connection and the software doesn't support Garmin USB yet. Anyone know of a tool that can convert a track into a route, or a bunch of waypoints? -Jeff
  6. I just unlocked the v6 update last night and am glad I did. I only looked at two small roads that had been very inaccurate in v5, but in v6 they are so much better. For example in the neighborhood where I live the map showed my house location as about 600 feet away from the actual location. This kind of inaccuracy makes the auto navigation confused because it thinks I'm driving on a street that is a block away. Another location was a private road almost in the middle of no where. V5 was not even close, v6 was right on. The track log I recorded landed right on the road in v6. I included some screen shots below. With these two corrections to roads that I would consider insignificant, it makes me wonder if there was some other overall correction that made everything more accurate?
  7. I was headed toward the purchase of a 76cs when I compared the models using the a feature on Garmin's web site. The main differences I found were: 60cs = no tide prediction 76cs = 115 MB memory, 60 = 56 MB 60cs = a little cheaper Since I didn't need tide data I just looked into the memory issue. According to this review of the 60c, 56 MB was plenty for my purposes. And FedEx delivered it today! ...guess I'll be up late tonight... -Jeff
