  1. My latest is also from 10th Hope it cures fast.
  2. We started out ourselves with my old Garmin 12XL, found a few and DNFd a few. In the city it was a bit off but out in the field it was never a problem with the accuracy. Today we use Oregon 300 and 550 but not because we couldn´t manage with the old 12, just because we wanted the newest gadgets and if course having logs and hints as well as maps is no drawback at all. But i will never be giving away my trusty 12 So you could try a little more or just buy a newer one. But remeber, experience in this game makes it easier to find caches even if the coords are a bit off. As to outdated, yes it probably is, new technology has made these things better and more accurate.
  3. Congrats, remember my first. It was out in the Norwegian woods outside Oslo and we actually didn´t know what we were loking for, had an old Garmin 12XL with no information what so ever. Took us a while to figure out the hidingplace. Keep up the hunt for more caches.
  4. What issues with the 550? Have both a 300 and a 550 in our house and so far never had any problems with either of them, but then again we update when updates are available. I know some have experienced problems, but isn´t that to be expected when you outsell the other brands. Cant say about the colorado, but if it had a touchscreen i probably would have bought one. The screen is good on both the 300 and 550 but they are different, the 300 kind of matte and the 550 more glossy. Accuracy wise i find them both quite good, but probably most GPSr are. 300 or 550? Well i wanted a camera and therefore gave the 300 to Laboline who was more than happy to get it.
  5. 2000? I thought it was only 500. I could be wrong. 2000 geocaches but only 200 GPX files, the Oregon 550 takes 5000 geocaches. 500 is the maximum geocaches you get on each pocket queiry, but in GSAK (probably other programs too) you can make one file that contains more than 500 if you want. If loaded one and one they count as separate GPX files
  6. If you add one and one GPX file you only have 200 files to store before hitting max. GPX files. If you load them with GSAK, you can load up to 2000? in one GPX file. Dont know about the card as i load all mine to the GPSr (Oregon550) and use tha card for maps and pictures.
  7. Go one better than him and get a GPSr with a camera, like the Oregon 550
  8. I would like to create my own POIs for my Garmin Oregon 550 and 300, but cant seem to find any info on how to do it. I want some simple program that will enable me to put the coordinates and a name and have it sendt to POIs in the Oregon. I would also like to create my own POI category as well. Anyone hva any ideas? Labb
  9. You need to mark a new waypoint and then edit that waypoint. Then you can alter the coordinates as you want, can be a good thing to rename it as well.
  10. The oregon comes with "world base map", wich is totally useless for geocaching, at least here in europe. I have both CN europe and topo maps on the unit and this makes it perfect. You obviously need to get some sort of maps on your unit, either from garmin or other sources. There are some free maps out there but i don´t have a link, guess someone will respond with links and more information about this.
  11. Oregon 400 manual: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/manual.js...5&pID=14904
  12. When loading caches like that, every cache gets loaded as one GPX file and the Oregon takes 200 GPX files, If you load pocket quieries you can load 500 caches in one GPX file. To delete you must open the drive on your oregon from the computer then deleting the files from there.
  13. How do you search for it? By number or by name? If caches are stored by number and you search by name you will not find any. And vice versa.
  14. For me it´s not gonna be a problem dividing the route in multiple stages, but would have been nice not to do so.
  15. Are you putting your maps on the internal device memory (approx. 850mb) or are you using an external microSD card? I planned a trip in the US a few months ago, and used City Navigator North America 2009, and put most of the western US on my device using the external microSD card. Took up about 2.3gb of memory, but it ran just fine. Topo maps on internal, approx. 650mb. The CN is on memorycard.
  16. No problems wtih 3.13, only one i have is that when in automotive mode and driving to an adress the "cursor" freeze occasionally. Was the same with 3.12 This is with erurope city navigator 2010. Need to rstart GPS before it will work again, all other functions can be used it´s just not showing that the vehicle is moving. Will play around with different settings to see if i can get around this.
  17. When performing a go to that is some distance away, 2000km, i get a message saying: "Route Calculation Error: Not enough memory available." The profile is automotive and the maps are european city navigator 2010, basemap is disabled but topomaps for norway is enabled. Same problem with basemap enabled. Topomaps are on the internal memory and the city navigator is on memory card. Anyone else had this? Could it be that i used to much of the memoryspace for maps? Or is it just to long a route?
  18. Works wonderfully on my Oregon 300, have the European city navigator. Both for driving to adresses etc. and for geocaching.
  19. I think you should just quit before things go crazy. I started off myself with my old Garmin 12CX and found one after searching a while. Found probably 15 more and some DNFs before things got out of hands. We, my girlfriend and i, decided it was time to upgrade to a GPSr that had maps. So she bought a used Vista CX with topomaps on it. Used that for a while and then i got tired of printing everything before going for the hunt, so Oregon 300 was ordered. And now we are close to 200 finds in just two months time. But the spending doesn´t stop there, no, now we have to get a better car for our trips as the caches nearby are getting scarce. See my point? Get out of this before you start spending an large amount of money on this silly game. No, to be honest. Don´t give up yet, try other caches and then go back to the ones you did not find, maybe you will find them next time. About what equipment to use, use what you have for now. You will know when the time has come for a dedicated GPSr. Good luck and welcome to our "world".
  20. Oh yes, my trusted 12CX came out of the closet two months ago because of geocaching. Last time i used it must have been in the year 2000, doing the "rally of discovery" in Irland. Sort of a treasure hunt rally. Today it lays on the table next to my new Oregon 300 just to keep it company. Dont think i will get rid of it, maybe my 10year old nephew will borrow it. To bad they make them like this anymore (quality wise).
